Impossible to go from XP Pro to Windows 8 using buy disc

I logged on XP Pro and the inserted disc of 8 W and installation started but received an error message and the installation stopped and he sent me to a reboot.  System tries to start W8 but cannot start and continues error power off.  He won't try to start using the old XP Pro.  If I put the W8 disc and try to start it, I get a message that I booted from the disc and cannot continue.  Any help will be appreciated.

Package of retail of Windows 8 comes with two discs, 32 and 64 bits. Its possible, you could try to install the 64-bit version of Windows 8 and your system does not support this version.

Search the drive with 32 bit on it and use it, boot from the disk and try to install the new.

Boot from the DVD Windows 8

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:

http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

Click Install now

Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 8 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

A Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor report was generated for this computer, and is the main concern of this report, "virtualization technology is not supported, this PC does not support hardware virtualization assisted". As you know that this statement refers to the XP mode which is optional for Windows 7 Professional.  My question is what material makes this PC not support for virtualization technology, and this PC can be modified to support the necessary hardware. I'm a novice at this sort of thing so maybe I do not understand what that means here the report. In addition, another concern of mine is how will the PC really run Windows 7, it will be too slow for example. I would appreciate your help and comments.

    Hey, Oscar:

There is no processors VT supported for the dc7100, so activation of VT in this machine is not going to happen.

If you have integrated Intel card, is not entirely Windows 7 or Vista capable.

Select travel it my computer for the software method and navigate to C:\SWSetup\sp34749. Make sure that the include subfolders is selected and the driver should install.

  • Media Vault 5140 Pro with Windows 7 using

Windows 7 was released shortly after I bought my Media Vault Pro 5140. NTI DriveBackup! 4 software (OEM Version) provided with the Media Vault is incompatible with Windows 7.

I don't find any information indicating that HP will support the use of the MV with Windows 7. I use the MV strictly as a file server or NAS and backup of my PC (so far limited to Windows XP computers since I can not backup my Windows 7 to the MV machines).

The OEM of DriveBackup NT provider is NewTech Infosystems, and they have a commercial product called NTIDriveBackup! 5.5 which is compatible with Windows XP and 7 (the two OS in use on our PC in a network).

Has anyone tried to upgrade the NTI DriveBackup! 4 (OEM version) to the release version 5.5? I fear that there may be some improvements in the OEM version of make the NTI software works with the MV5140. If it will not integrate well with the HP Media Vault Pro Control Center, is there a reason any v5.5 NTI software would not be able to backup on a Media Vault drive when used as a standalone application?

You should be able to use any backup application that supports support upward to network drives. The HP Media Vault includes a file server that is compatible with Windows 7, so, for example, you can map a drive letter to a share on the Media Vault, as card drive X: (or another available drive letter) to \\hpmediavault\backup.  You can then use your backup application to back up your hard disk drive X: note, that if you renamed your Media Vault, you need to specify the correct name, "hpmediavault" is just the name of the default server.

However, as you said, the link on the HP Media Vault control center not properly join your backup application, so you will need to start your application to backup manually.

    Hope this helps.

  • Impossible to connect from my VIC to the host using the host name.

    Hi guys,.

When I try to log in from my VIC to the host, I get this message (see photo) but if I use the work just the IP address. I check my DNS and host VMware was not there so I created a PTR record that connects the IP with hostname, I update the DNS, but still nothing happens. Any idea?

    Thank you.

I was almost positive it is a dns issue...

You can test the host name of the workstation that you are trying to connect from? try clearing your cache dns on the local workstation-

    > ipconfig/flushdns

If for some reason that doenst work, and then add the host name of the node to your hosts file

    Hi Lily,

You have used the disk to upgrade to Windows 7 in Toshiba or was it a normal disc of Windows 7 from Microsoft?

In my opinion, this error message means that the file on the disc can t be read properly. Maybe the disc is scratched or your CD/DVD drive doesn't work properly. Have you tried other discs?

  • How can I move mail and contacts from Outlook Express on a computer that is running XP Pro to Windows Live Mail on another computer in Windows 7?

Can someone please provide a solution step by step? Most of the messages and the links here seems to apply to a different situation, as OE6 and WLM residing on the SAME computer, or under the SAME operating system. Not so in my case.

I see that Windows Live Mail is supposed to be able to import contacts and emails OE6. But where am I supposed to put old OE6 files on the computer so that Windows Live Mail can find them? OE6 only let me "export" to Outlook or Microsoft Exchange, nor of what exists on my old computer, nor my other!

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.
