Impossible to import / not import photos

Hi, apologies if this has already been answered. I did a quick search and could not find my answer.

Everything worked fine in LR 4, but the upgrade to 5.3 LR and using the Mavericks I was able to import the photos once. After tinkering for a week and frustrated, I updated to LR 5.4 and still have the same question. I have uninstalled/reinstalled without success.

My setup is LR 5.4, with the Mavericks and try to import images directly from my Lumix LX7 (connected via USB) card.

The questions are:

-When I click on importing, thumbnails for the first dozen or so images fill. These are the same miniatures that are initially visible in the window when I go to the Import module. But then, when I scroll through all other thumnails are white. Not "preview of the Image is not available." All grey squares with the file name. I have to click around on these squares and load different images to see where I want to start my import.

-When I select a range of close to 50 images/videos and hit import files, it does not work. The screen changes to a gray screen that says "Import files" or something like that. But the progress bar in the top left corner does not move. No thumbnails not developed in active import window. Essentially, nothing happens. After 20 minutes, I click the button cancel on the progress bar and it confirms that no photos have been imported.

The images are set to be extracted from card LX7 and saveed on an external drive, reinforcement of the Standard previews and intelligent previews in the catalog by using the import settings.

-Just try to import five stills does not work either. Same questions.

Any import this dilemma is further complicated because the LX7 card has about 500 images on it. When I did imports previously in LR 4, I would choose to import only new images. However, it does not recognize the previous pictures I imported, despite them with LR 5 in my library with the same file name and my import preference being to ignore duplicates. Instead, when I installed LR 5 first I was able to do an import and had to eliminate duplicates from my library by using a search for '-2' filter in file names. Now, I can't even LR 5 to import anything.

The only time wherever I was never successful import of images with LR 5, was the first time that I used it. The thumbnails in the import window and I scrolled down as they populated, keep pace wth my Macbook Pro build each row of thumbnails. Then, when I saw the photos for all images on my LX7 card, I hit Import and it worked fine with the same import settings. Subsequently, I can't see the pictures for the first 10 images only and based on accurate results import into LR 5 stalled.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get import working again?

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT FOUND A WORKAROUND THAT CAN HELP SOMEONE

I have a 810 Nikon that captures video and files NAVE and a GOPRO which also captures the JPG and MP4 files.  The described problem ALWAYS happens when I still have pictures and video on the same card.  If I only take still pictures and then there is no problem.  Using a card reader the DIFFERENCE of NO FACT.   Put the files on another led the first FACT NO DIFFERENCE.

I tried to separate the JPG files and MP4 files in different folders, but this did not help.  Here take a tip from one of the messages that MP4 files could still be connected somehow to the catalog, I deleted the folder with MP4 files, ejected from the card reader that have the SD card with the MP4 files and closed Lightroom (I checked the card Force Quit to be sure that Lightroom did no more work).  Now, I got the JPG files on an external drive of 3 USB, not MP4 files, none of the THM sidecar files.  I restarted Lightroom, held my breath, and the problem was gone.

I hope this helps.  Why this help I have no idea.

  • Recently impossible to import Photos from the digital camera or iPhone device

In the past, whenever I have one of my digital cameras or an iPhone connected to my PC (Dell Inspiron 530 running on Windows Vista), the import box would jump to the top, I'd choose to import photos and everything worked without problem.  Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but recently I uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2007 and installed Norton 360 and since then I'm unable to download pictures from my digital camera (Canon Powershot SD950 IS) or my iPhone.  The box "import photos" don't jump (it always did before), and when I go to the Picasa or Windows Photo Gallery and try to "import from camera", it tells me there is no connected device (this happens when the iPhone or the Canon camera is plugged).  And instead of the pealing sound, my PC would usually do when a device is correctly spiked, he made three low knock-type noises, as if to say the device was not properly read.  Interestingly, the iPhone still synchronizes / charges, etc., but I can't get on the photos.  I spent some time chatting with Norton Customer Support, because this issue has started only after that I installed Norton 360, but we have uninstalled Norton 360 (re - installed since) and the problem continued.  I tried several ports, and because this problem has affected at the same time my iphone and a digital camera, that work with any other son and USB ports, I'm pretty sure that this is not something simple like a bad port or wire.  I don't know if it's a matter of updating Windows Vista or what.  So now I'm scratching my head...

    Hi BklnMick,

Thanks for posting your question on the Forums of Windows Vista.

I need more information to help you better.

    3. you see a new message of material found during the connection digital camera or Iphone?

    4. are there any other devices (such as mouse, keyboard, printer etc.) connected to the machine?

If you are sure that the problem started after installing an application, you can try to perform a system restore on the computer to a previous date when you when it is able to import photos from your digital camera or your Iphone. You can follow the article give:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/936212

You can also try to power on the machine cycle to drain static electricity that may have built up on the USB ports.

    1. turn of the computer.

    2. disconnect all devices from the CPU.

    3. hold the power button for every 30secs.

    4. connect all devices to the machine.

5 restart the computer and check if the USB begin to operate.

Hope the above information helps. Please post back and we do know.

  • Impossible to import photos from the card reader into Lightroom 6

When importing, seen happen on the screen, but when I type "import" I get a message that the files cannot be read.

When you get the message "cannot be read", it really means that the files cannot be written. Namely, the place you attempt to copy images in its permissions set so that you cannot write there. You will need to change the permissions on the destination folder. Then you will be able to import.

  • Camera with GPS and Photos shows not all contact information when importing photos in pictures

I have a Nikon AW130 with active GPS. While previously using iPhotos he always imported the exact location when you import photos. I'm using pictures and nothing appears under location. We are on a cruise on our sailboat and spend 10 months foreign traveling or diving in remote locations, geotagging is important. And I'm not geotag pictures of thousands that we take in a season of navigation manually. The Internet is also either not always available or slow and costly iCloud is not always possible. So what is the solution? Thank you.

Photos will show the locations only, if the computer is connected to the internet after importing the photos. He needs a database of Apple connection to retrieve the names of places.  Pictures don't show latitude and longitude but a place name. If you have an internet connection, you should see a name of places and a small map in the Info Panel for photos.

We are on a cruise on our sailboat and spend 10 months foreign traveling or diving in remote locations, geotagging is important

Names of places in photos are not a great help in navigation.  Most of my photos of sailing is simply display "North Atlantic" or "Sea of Caribbean", such as the location, but the locations of the pins on the map are correct.  And if you export photos Tags the GPS will be integrated. Just, make sure that you enable empbed location information in the Photos of preferences > General.

You can check if the GPS has been applied by the camera, if you export Photos photos, open in preview. The Info Panel in preview (Tools > Inspector) will tell you the GPS coordinates.

As a test Pictures of launch with down option and create a new test library.  Import photos and a test to see if the same problem persists. T it?  If he doesn't want to say that your current library is damaged.

So, try to repair the library according to the instructions in this document from Apple: Repair Your Library.

Warning: If you use iCloud photo library with Photos, this operation will lead to Photos to upload all your pictures again (of difficulty missing or incorrect thumbnails in photo - Apple Support).

  • Computer will not import photos

Computer will not import pictures either from camera or SD reader - there are 1,000 images this size would be too heavy for my laptop? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 2 GB. I click on Photo Gallery - click on file - click the Pictures dialog box - then import appears - no new images on the device.  Any ideas?

    Hi silverfox16,

    1. were you able to import photos before without any problem?

This error message occurs when you try to transfer the same pictures again.

You can try to cut and paste the images using Windows Explorer and check.

Alternatively, you can try to delete or rename the database file that checks the duplicates.

Navigate to the location next and Pictures.pd4 and rename it to Pictures.pd4.old or remove the file and check.

    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery\Pictures.pd4 (or sometimes.pd5) and rename

  • Impossible to import pictures from my Olympus as Gallery of HP does not open

I imported my Olympus picturecard years photos by placing it in the port on my computer (windows 7), however, a few weeks ago, I tried and nothing happened. Usually, the HP Gallery rises and then asks me if I want to download.

    Any idea what could happen?

Is the card reader built into your computer or is it connected to the computer by a USB cable?

What is the brand and model of your camera?

What type of memory card that you use?

If Nothing happened, chances are that the card or the card reader has failed.

If you get an error message, what is the full text without paraphrase?

With the card in the card reader, click on the circle to start, and then click computer.

Do you not see a drive letter (probably E or later in the alphabet) which seems to be your card?

The drive c: is your system drive and D: is your CD/DVD drive.

If there is one drive other than C or D, double click it.

    Are there any photos?

You get an error message?  If Yes, what is the full text, without paraphrasing?

Click the start ORB, type "Device Manager" (without the quotes) and press ENTER.

    You see the warning icons?

If so, what device has warning icon?

Double-click on the device with the warning icon and the report, which is shown as "State of the device.

Most cameras can be connected directly to your computer via a USB cable.  You have a USB cable that has the connector suitable for your camera (in general, it's a 'mini' or 'micro' connector, with one normal size USB connector on the other end):

If you have a cable, connect your device to your computer and turn on your camera.  You may or may not put the camera in a special mode to download images (for help, see your camera guide user or bring its brand and model).

If you are able to connect your device to your computer, and you can download images, the problem most likely is your card reader.  You can buy a player card connected by USB, relatively inexpensive to replace.

If you are able to connect your device to your computer and you can not upload photos, the problem is probably that the card is dead.  Whether or not you will be able to recover images depends on how damaged the card is.
