Impossible to install service pack 2 or 3 of the website or downloaded copies

I have IBM think Office Center and had to perform a recovery of the copy to the hard drive of the Windows XP Professional version 2002 service pack 1 operating system but can not run windows update web site.  Website says I need 2 pack and three pack installed to use Microsoft update.  I downloaded the two packs of service Flash drive on another computer, but they will not install.  I went through the update download site and it is said that automatic update will handle pack 2 & 3 until I pack 1 charge (it is).  Microsoft Fix it won't work because pack 3 is not responsible and will not work manual update becase pack 3 is not loaded.  What did I miss?  Any ideas?

FIRST: Uninstall IE8 and IE7 if they are installed. Back to all the way back to IE6. You want other patches before you get those. Reboot after doing this.

Hardware and other drivers are too important.  Do you have updated those via the web page of the manufacturer of your system model?

Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]  * Do not leave on a USB key if download you it on another computer and copy it to this computer in this way - put it ON the computer.

Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]  * Do not leave on a USB key if download you it on another computer and copy it to this computer in this way - put it ON the computer.

Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).

Install it.

Reset.

Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.

Back - let everyone know if it worked for you.

  • The brightness of the display function is not after installing Service Pack 2

Hi, I had installed Service Pack 2 as recommended by the window update (my laptop is HP DV5 series). After installation, my screen resolution has changed and so I put it back to normal. But the strange thing is, I can't change the brightness of the screen by clicking on Fn + F keys that I've always done. The function to change the brightness in the power option is too much missing.

Problem is solved after I restore the window. FN + F keys work, and re-emerged the brightness option in the Option to. The problem is, should I go for the new update that remind me of in the update of the window? Thank you!

Microsoft Security Essentials is available only when the WGA scan does not detect the presence of a valid, fully functional antivirus application.  Yet another symptom of an existing infection (ongoing).

Do a clean install. After completing the clean install this time (in order):

    1. uninstall the Trend Micro application (which will also be reinstalled, but now invalid) & restart.

2 download/install Microsoft Security Essentials (free), instead of customer Service: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

    3. launch repeated manual checks for Windows Updates & install updates they are offered (follow all prompts) until you finally got SP2 & all post-SP2 installed updates.
