  Safari maxes in a version of Mac OS x.  New version of Mac OS x would be needed for the new version of Safari.

  Firefox is not limited within an OSX and probably has a version that works.  Chrome may as well but is a Devourer of resources.  Opera is a third option.

  I think you have your confused terms. Your home page is the site you've set up on your computer that is displayed when you open your browser. I assume you mean you want to this message on your website so that when visitors visit your website they have the option of using Firefox, correct?

  If this is the case, that is too advanced for this forum, but there are other, forums of web developers that can help you with the display of a message (note that you can do is send users to download Firefox, cannot open a page in a different browser on your Web site).   Banks and other sites recently moved to exclude the browsers which do not support the latest encryption methods. The old ways seem too precarious.

  Safari 5 is not supported because it only provides this outdated encryption method. 10.6.8 the version of Safari is related to MacOS capabilities and cannot be upgraded separately.

• By clicking Download does not open regular dialog on some websites

  Firefox 26 under Xubuntu 13.10.

  When I download files (.pdf, .rar, .txt, or other) of the sites the more a dialogue window opens asking me what I want to do with this file, for example open with utiliy by default for this type of file, or save the file to the local disk.

  This doesn't seem to work on some websites however. Especially trying to download a file .mkv does not open the usual dialog box and fills just my page with the text encoding which is well above my paygrade.

  I'm not at all familiar with .mkv and quirks or personalities that she may have, so I guess my first question is, do I need some sort of additional FF plugin to download this file type or is it a fault with the configuration of the Web sites concerned?
