Hi 800700cb,
Thank you for using the Microsoft answers forum.

Before proposing any stage, we need additional information about the upgrade that you mentioned.
-You try to upgrade from a previous version of windows to windows vista?
-If so, exactly when you receive this error?

If you try to install some updates through windows update, try the following steps:

1. open the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956699/en-us
2 go to the "fix it for me". Download the tool and save it to your computer. Run the tool. After the completion of the process, restart the computer and try to check the updates of windows now.

To resolve the problem manually or if you are not able to follow the steps above, follow these steps:

If there are damaged files in the folders "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" or 'catroot2', try running these commands in an elevated command prompt. To do this, click "Start" and type "cmd"in the "Search" box. " In the results area, right-click "cmd.exe" and then click "run as administrator". You will be asked to type the password for an administrator account. If you are the administrator or type the administrator password, click on "continue". Then, click on "continue". At the command prompt, type the following commands one by one and press ENTER after each command.
-net stop wuauserv
-net of stop bits
-net stop cryptsvc
-ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
-ren %Windir%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
-net start wuauserv
-net start bits
-net start cryptsvc
Exit the command prompt.

Create a batch file and copy the following content into it, and then double-click on it to re - register modules or dll files. Open "computer", click on the 'Tools' menu and click 'folder options'. Go to the 'display' tab uncheck "hide extension for known file types". Click 'Ok' at the bottom of the window.
Now right-click on your desktop, select 'New', then 'text document', then press ENTER twice. Paste the following commands. Click on 'file' and then click 'Save'. Give a name like "test" and save the file. Now right-click on the file, click "Rename." Rename the file "test.txt" in "test.bat". Press on enter and if prompted, click on "continue". Once you see that the file name has changed to "test.bat", double-click on the file that runs the scripts.

  • Switch from Windows Vista to Windows 7

    Dear all,

I had Windows Vista installed on my laptop, but unfortunately lost the c: / and the license code for this.

Question: can I uninstall what remains of Windows Vista on my laptop and install Windows 7 on it. I still have a license of the latter and I expect long term to be able to switch to Windows 10, free of charge.

Please can you let me know what you think about this?

    Kind regards

    Friederike

First of all, note that there is no way to uninstall any version of Windows. They only way to get rid of Vista is to format the drive, for example by installing another operating system itself. A clean install means that you will lose the entire computer, including all your personal data, so until this don't forget to make a backup of all your important files n external media.

Secondly, you say that you have a license for Windows 7, but how did you? If you bought a copy retail, fine. But if it's an OEM copy (for example, if it came with another computer) you can not do this.

Finally, note that the period for a free upgrade for Windows 10 expired on July 29.

    In this State...

Go buy a COMMERCIAL of the Spanish version of Windows 7 Home Premium version and do a CLEAN INSTALLATION.
Note: you will lose all files and install programs when you clean it. Thus, you should save that you want to keep before hand.

  • How can I switch from Windows Vista to Windows 7

    Original title: Windows 7

My HP laptop came pre-installed with Microsoft Vista OS. How can I change to Windows 7?

    Hello NareshDadlani,

You must verify that your hardware of PCs will supports Windows 7, therefore, you must visit the HP site and check that the Windows 7 drivers are available for your PC.

Windows 7, is of course, is no longer provided by Microsoft, so you can use scouring eBay or Amazon to see if a copy is legitimate is available. Like most of the software there are many out there pirated copies so be wary.

You can also check if you can run Windows 8.1 instead. This will bring you bang up-to-date with the latest operating system. You can download the Wizard Windows 8 upgrade from this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8 the link to the upgrade wizard is in the second paragraph.

  • How can I switch from Windows Vista 32-bit for Windows Vista 64 - bit?

Hello my PC is a 32-bit and I checked and it is expandable to a 64-bit so my? Now this is what to do from here which means I know it is evolutionary, but what do I do now...

Please help me understand what I need to do Thks in advance.
original title: Desktop PC Vista Home Basic...? ..

On the same hardware, there will be no difference of speed of moving to 64-bit. There are some marginal benefits of security with Windows 64-bit.

    Since at least the five years, almost all of the processors are able to run in 32-bit and 64-bit mode.  See for more information on current processors that work with Windows;

    http://www.Intel.com/en_UK/products/processor/Corei7/index.htm

    http://www.AMD.com/us/products/pages/processors.aspx

It's really a matter of how much you want to spend for the performance you need. See this for more information on what you will need for a high performance system:

    http://www.TomsHardware.com/reviews/core-I7-3930k-3820-test-benchmark, 3090.html

You can not simply exchange one processor to another. It must be put in correspondence with the motherboard.

You are referring to a Vista Home Basic Office. Home Basic is usually installed on low-specification PCs which are not powerful enough to run all of Vista's features.

If you want to run something like Adobe CS5, you would be probably better off buying a new computer Windows 7 to try to upgrade your existing computer.

  • How to switch from Windows Vista to Xp on a Satellite P200?

    Hello!

I would like to know if it is possible to install Windows XP on a computer that initially comes with Vista? Someone told me that some drivers need to be installed first, but I just can't find the right information.

    Thank you

    Corinne

Well, you're right. You need install Intel Matrix Storage manager first before you continue the installation of XP.
During the installation of XP Setup will be asked by pressing the F6 key to include drivers 3.
You will use this option to install Intel Matrix Storage manager external USB FDD or you will create the XP CD again using the nLite software.

However, all the drivers are available on the European driver Toshiba page. Then choose the good series notebook and check compatible drivers!

    Hello

What is the edition of Windows Vista installed on the computer?
Make sure that you upgrade to the correct version, some versions of Windows cannot be upgraded with the installation disc you are trying to use. For example, you cannot upgrade a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version, or upgrade a higher edition of Windows like Windows Vista Ultimate Edition, to a lower edition, such as Windows 7 Edition Home Premium. If this is the case, you will need to use the custom during installation option.
Before you attempt to upgrade, please run the Windows 7 upgrade Advisor:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Upgrade-Advisor
Also, check if your computer is compatible for Windows 7, using the Compatibility Center:

I'm getting an unmountable_boot_volume during the upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista.  It occurs after Windows 7 software loads and restarts.  If I restart the computer, I have the option to start the upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows Vista.  If I select Windows Vista, the computer restarts without problem.  If I choose Windows 7 Upgrade, I get the blue screen of death with the unmountable_boot_volume error.  Of course, nothing wrong with the boot volume because Windows Vista starts without error.  The boot drive is 1.5 TB.  Any suggestions on how to accomplish the upgrade to Windows 7?

  • Can I switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 by installing Windows 7 without uninstalling XP?

Can I switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 by installing Windows 7 without uninstalling XP?

Yes, and in fact you must do in order to qualify for the upgrade price.  You must realize, however, this update of XP to 7 involves a "custom installation" - that is, you must save your data first (on external support) and to reinstall all your applications after that Win 7 is running.

Under certain circumstances, installing Windows 7 might create a windows.old file, but it's not clear to me what is stored in memory in the transition from XP to 7. you will certainly be able to run one of your older applications without having to reinstall them.  See, for example, http://www.chron.com/business/silverman/article/Going-from-Windows-XP-to-Windows-7-It-s-not-1609463.php
