In Windows 7 64 bit can drive letter D be removed safely to a HP recovery partition which is full?

My drive C partition has a lot of space, but the recovery drive D partition shows red/almost complete.  My computer is a HP dv7 laptop running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium edition.

Occasionally, I get annoying warnings in order to free space on recovery drive D.  I know that the D drive is important and not did something for her.

A previous post of Microsoft MVP said remove the recovery Partition letter D would take care of the problem without affecting, or withdrawing, D recovery drive data.

However, while following its not recommended, it is a warning about the programs potentially does not work properly. I cancelled the process without continuing.  Other posts in this thread mentioned will come with the removal of the letter ends not "power" with a red 'X'

I have both a bootable HP recovery disk and a Windows recovery disk for this computer in the case of a hard disk failure, as well as frequent backups and Images of disks of the computer for the whole system.

I'm sure woud like to get rid of these warnings of boring.  Thanks for any advice.

Backup Windows, as with all utilitiies of backup, looking for the next after C drive letter because it is not a good idea to save anything on the main drive.

What Windows backup or any other backup utility does NOT do is check if the disk with the following letter is a suitable place for file backups.

To locate and remove the backup of Windows files, search for *.bkf and then delete them.

Backups must be stored in the external media that can be isolated from the host system when the not required. Preferred to use an external USB disk. You can get one of them before deleting the files bkf in D... :-)

  • Windows 7 32 bit can not find the driver for printer Photosmart Premium C310a

I recently had an update to the product directly on my printer Photosmart Premium C310a on Internet.  However, this then to Windows 7 (32 bit) to search for a driver for the printer but it could not find a.  If I click on devices and printers, it shows my device from the computer as requiring troubleshooting.  When I click on troubleshooting it signals that "Driver for Photosmart Prem 310 is not installed.  Install the latest version of the driver.  When I applied the fix, it indicates that the driver is not found.

I tried to download the latest driver on the website of HP in various ways, finally to uninstall all HP software displayed in the Panel and then removing all the HP files remaining on my laptop.  I then ran PC Tools Registry Mechanic, disabled my anti-virus, restarted the computer software and reinstalled the complete C310a software on the HP site.  It ended without any problem, and after adding the printer to my list of printer, it is printed on a perfect test page.  However, Device Manager always reports the C310a driver is missing, but it cannot find a copy when it finds one.

How can I convince the device manager that everything is going well (apparently)?

apeace, I recommend you do as you did, uninstall the printer under programs and features but also by ensuring that this printer he is removed from the Manager of peripherals and devices and printers. Then after restarting the computer and by disabling the firewall, download the drivers and software for full adjustment and install them.

You can also run this utility and see if that solves the problem automatically!

  • Installation of CS4 64 bit on Windows 7 to a custom drive letter

    Hi all

Currently a user of CS3 on XP SP3 but who want to retire from my old computer and build a new machine of i7 running under Windows 7 64-bit and will upgrade to CS4 in order to run in 64-bit mode and take advantage of the features of GPU so more than 4gigs of memory!

Downloaded the demo for CS4 to take a glance at the program and more precisely the modalities installation instructions and was shocked to read that CS4 64-bit cannot be installed on the default drive (C:\)?  Is this really so?

I had planned to use one of the new superfast Solid State drives of 80 GB capacity all about to run Windows 7 only, no program on C:\ just Win 7.  I currently use this method in my XP machine with a C:\ drive for the o/s and a P:\ disk for programs and, of course, a dedicated scratch disk.

Why is - CS4 64 bit the only program I can see (from my list of things I'm going to need) to insist to be installed with the o/s?  Is there a way around this? I need to get this sort in my own mind before ordering the HDDS to do the new machine that I might have to go back to a 500 GB C:\ drive if that is the case.

Thanks for any help you can give this 64 bit Virgin lol

    Dave

CS4 64 bit can be installed on the default drive (C:\)?  Is this really so?

Yes. It was not different from older CS products (at least the same behavior CS2 and CS3). The point here is that you can install the main program on another drive by choosing a custom Setup, but as Zeno, the shared components listed will always be in specific directories on the system drive by default where Scout apps are installed which can also be used.

  • Windows 7 will not assign drive letter to e-SATA drive

I have a Seagate 1.5 TB SATA disk mounted in a Thermaltake case which has an e-SATA connection. The drive has been formatted NTFS on a Windows 2000 computer and a backup on this computer has been correctly written to disk. When I connect this drive to my 64-bit Windows 7 computer (Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 m/b using an e-SATA port connected to the Gigabyte SATA2 chip) Windows recognize the drive where the disc is displayed in 'Remove hardware safely', but Windows 7 does not allocate a drive letter.

The disk appears in disk management (currently Disc 3) without a drive letter. When I right click on the blue band to the right of the box Disc 3, Windows cross-hatches the white rectangular box below the blue band. When I click on 'change drive letter and paths' I get the following message «the operation failed because the view is not updated...» "None of the proposed remedies work.

The results are the same regardless of whether I start the computer with the drive connected and running or hot plug disk.

My e-SATA 1 TB Fantom drive works fine on this computer.

I would appreciate any suggestion you may have.

    Hello

Look in Device Manager if there is an item under "storage volumes", called "unknown device". If there, uninstall the driver to do this and as soon as I reconnect the windows disc and see if it assigns a drive letter. If it isn't

    Try this;

    Go to Device Manager

(1), look for an entry that says "Unknown disc" or something similar. This entry may not be marked with the error icon.

    (2) after you locate the entry, right click and select "Uninstall".

    (3) after you have uninstalled, press F5 or select "Search the hardware changes" in the action menu.

    (4) the pilot is then reinstalled correctly.

P.S - I found these answers in other forums showing the same error message. Try them and let me know if it was just a waste of time.  :-)

  • I replaced my Windows 7 64-bit system drive and now I have the "Not genuine" message after an update failed

I have a Windows 7 64-bit system I bought a provider on the local computer for a long time with Windows installed.

I replaced my hard drives of 500 GB (mirrored RAID configuration) system with hard drives of 1 TB.

After replacing the readers, I also installed a set of Windows updates. We update failed. After you restart the computer, I ran Windows update again. It seemed that all upgrades completed.

HOWEVER, I now have the message "this computer is not running Genuine Windows". Windows Indexing is not running, send me problems in Outlook and elsewhere.

I saw discussions on the online forum on the problem "Not genuine" resulting from an update of Windows failed and resulting also to change the hard drive.

I led Activation (slui.exe 3) typed in the product key from the sticker on the computer and it activates OK but does not erase the message.

I clicked on pay online now and ran legitcheck.hta and my system has failed validation. The options are to buy or to perform a new installation of Windows.

I have a lot of programs installed on the computer, and I can't lose all configuration data and reinstall all programs. That would take several days and I would not have a system can be used in the meantime.

I ran the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (1.9.0027.0) and have these results below.

There are a lot of files file mismatches and "tampered with". I believe that this is due to the update has failed.

I thought to manually rerun all updates that goes back to the date when first I struggled (about a month). However, I wasn't sure if this solves the problem or make worse it.

You can leave the data below what actions I need to take the next?

I am a independent and use this computer to work. I have backups of my data files, but it is many installed applications that I can't do without.

Please provide a detailed description of your query.

    1. What are the troubleshooting steps you have tried?

  • Convert Pagemaker 7.0 files to PDF and cannot do without a PostScript for Windows 7 64 bit printer driver.

I am trying to convert Pagemaker 7.0 files to PDF and cannot do without a PostScript printer driver.

The driver on the PM installation disc will not install.

The driver is available on the Adobe Web site will not be installed.

HP support cannot help me. They directed me to Adobe.

Adobe technical support is no help at all unless I want to pay $140.00 to use the software that I have already purchased from them.

Where and how can I get a PostScript printer driver for my Windows 7 64 bit computer?

I'm under 64-bit Windows 8. There are a few options:

    1. in my case, I use Adobe Creative Suite CS3 as well. It comes with Adobe Acrobat 8.0, which must be upgraded to version 8.1.3 or about 64-bit support. This, however, works OK with PageMaker 7.0.

    2. There is a method using a printer driver called "imagesetter MS Publisher' which is actually Postscript and will do the job. You will need to do some research on it: I remember using this method when installing PM 7.0 under the preview release. I also noticed that there is a 'PS Microsoft class driver"Windows 8. Maybe it's worth a try.

    3. try a third free PDF writer. I have recommended Nitro Reader for some customers.

I keep only PageMaker to open the old client files, and anything but trivial changes, I migrate files to InDesign (which opens the MP files date back as far as PM6). You can be a better buy InDesign (if only an older version) and do the same thing - it is a much better program and PM is blowing out of the water.

  • Media Library (Windows 7 64-bit) can it be adjusted to be "always on top"?

I use Media Center on my PC under Windows 7 64-bit to watch TV in a small window, but can't find a way to put it to always be "on top", so I can't do what I want - perform another task but still to see the TV.  Is it possible to establish that it is always on top, and if so, how?

    Kind regards

    Dave C

    Open Windows Media Center

    Scroll to settings

    Select general

    Select startup and Windows behavior

Put a checkmark in keep always on top Windows Media Center.

  • Tecra P11 - No Windows 7 64-bit display driver on the Toshiba site

    Hello

I just got a new laptop today and installed Windows 7 64-bit. Looking at the website of Toshiba (win 7 page) I discovered that there are no drivers listed for the P11. Given that my laptop came with a Windows 7 license I at least expect that Windows 7 drivers would be on the Page of the Toshiba Support. If someone could post a link that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

I ve checked page Australian support and drivers Win7 does not exist, yet.
To be honest this Tecra is unknown to me, but if you have newer model laptop, I assume that all of the drivers, tools, and utilities will soon be available. There is no other connection.

I m wondering you did not check the support page before you do a clean install.
By the way: this license key, activations belongs to delivered version Win7 and you cannot use it for the installation of the operating system with the Microsoft installation disc.
