Inaccessibility of the hard drive

Hello, I need help.

I searched a bit, but nothing helped so I'm here. Yes, first of my drive is a WD passport 500 GB hard drive. He worked for the first two times, no problem then one day I plug it and it connected. So, I go to my computer (explorer) and he's not here so I check devices and printers and its there. When I click on properties on the general tab, there: manufacturer: unavailable, model: My Passport 0740, model number: unavailable, categories: storage device, Description: unavailable.
And when I click computer > manage > storage > disk management, a window opens. He said: "you must initialize a disk before logical disk manager can access it." Use the following for selected disks partition style: MBR (Master Boot Record), GPT (GUID Partition Table). "When I select either on it comes up with"the request could not be performed because of an i/o error."is also the tab disk: disk 1, unknown, uninitialized. Also when I plug the icon does not appear in the lower right corner up to 4 minutes, and the light blinks constantly. I don't know if it is guaranteed, but I wouldn't count on it. And I have some important things about it and I'm going on vacation soon in about 3 days and I need to move my stuff on that hard drive prior to this date, so please, any help would be much appreciated.

Never mind for some odd reason when I got back on my computer after that I saw your message, I went to the computer > Manage > storage > disk management and he was there. So I went to my computer and it wasn't there, so I went back and I changed the drive letter and it works now, thanks for the help anyway.

Edit: my stuff are always where they are.

I guess it's a usb port on your tv labled as a hard drive. If that's true, you can get a cable hdmi to usb - if there is such an animal.

  • Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD? or would it be too expensive?

Is it possible to replace the hard drive with an SSD?

or would it be too expensive?

Yes.  There are several alternatives.  I found a way relatively inexpensive, using a map of mSATA (very small SSD) and an adapter to connect it to the connector IDE 44 pin internal of my PowerBook.  It works very well.  Rather than repeat what I posted previously, you can watch these two topics (which also has good info, other users)

  • What is the speed of the hard drive of the 2015 2 and 3 to merge disks partition?

I was looking through the Apple site and was wondering about the speed of the drive in the iMac in car merger. On their site it says that the 1 TB Fusion drive has 24 GB of Flash memory, and 2 models to and 3 to have 128 GB of Flash storage. But it does not say what the speed of the hard drive partition, which is what I want to know. It is 5400 RPM, or even 10000 rpm or 7200 RPM? I don't know, but I want to know. If anyone here knows the answer to this question, I would appreciate a response. Thank you.

I have seen it reported that the Fusion drives are all 7 200 RPM.

    Hello amfisher,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

If I understand correctly, you are unable to see your new external drive to an iMac 2009.  I'll be happy to try to help with this.

So that your iMac to see it, it may be necessary to reformat the drive. The best format for use with your Mac's OS X Extended (journaled).

Format an external hard drive for use with a Mac

    1. Connect the hard drive to a USB port on your Mac.
    2. Open disk utility.
    3. On the left side of the disk utility window, select your external drive (or one of its partitions).
    4. Click the delete or delete button on the toolbar.
    5. On the Format menu, choose Mac OS extended (journaled).
    6. Type a name for your drive, and then click clear.
    7. After that the drive is deleted, close the disk utility window.

This should allow you to copy files to the disc.

Your computer has software called Time Machine.  It is a fantastic software for backing up your computer.  Information on how to use Time Machine is available here:

  • Conclusion removed the hard drive

Our "old" laptop teacher at work will be used by students this year so our IT team has removed all hard drives.  Unfortunately, one of our teachers made a mistake on the external hard drive backup and lost his papers. The info was accidentally recorded on the hard drive... not the external drive. All hard drives (hundreds and hundreds) are now randomly laying in boxes.

We can find the laptop that was hers, but is it possible to find the serial number for the hard drive that had been in it? Are the serial numbers for the laptop in any way linked to the serial number on the hard drive? Just try to find every way possible to help him.

Not sure about the BONE... probably the latest or next to last.

    Thank you!

There is no correlation between the installed hard drive and MacBooks in which they have been installed. Then the next number in the series could even have another brand of disc.

Frankly, I can't remove these drives. A single pass of erasure with writing zeros would be crushed everything (but it takes all afternoon). Crushed once sufficient for everything but nuclear secrets.

MacBook pro work leave because of pulled and broken wire.  I took out the hard drive.  the hard drive has all my files that I wouldn't need to clear all of the other personal files?

It does not start to the top, screen and hardware ok except belt disconnected.

also can I sell adapter, brand new, never used. where can I sell?

Hi Wally, the hard disk OS X and all of your files. Get a case for your reader, and it backs up. Try OWC

Always keep your Mac backed up on an external drive with Time Machine or utility of cloning like SuperDuperor double clone.

    Try eBay for the adapter.

  • If I remove the hard drive from my Mac book will find my Mac still works

One of my buddies and ME are supporting it because im trying to say that if you remove the hard drive of a Macbook, find my Mac no longer works, even if you get a new hard drive and connect it to the Internet. He said, that it only stops working if it is not connected to the internet, and I know it's true, but I want to know if my theory is correct,

If you remove the HD there is nothing to identify your Mac then FindMyMac.

To use FindMyMac the Mac must be connected to the internet and FindMyMac must be enabled in system preferences > iCloud. This requires Mac be signed in iCloud.

  • My files on the hard drive are getting corrupted?

I use the model of MacBook Air 2013 Yosemite running. I have a Seagate BackPlus 1 TB drive to NTFS. And I use Tuxers NTFS on my Mac to read and write files from NTFS devices. Lately, I'm sloly from knowledge that my files on the hard drive are getting corrupted. When I try to open any folder I blocks until I have remove my hard drive. I lost some files like this. Now, they are completely inaccessilble. The big sone files show even ehen 0 bytes, they are around a GB or something. I start out freak because all my data is in this hard drive. 1 TB of data. Its my life is locked in it.

Is someone can you please tell me what is happening with my hard drive?

    Thanks in advance...

Is someone can you please tell me what is happening with my hard drive?

Probably not. The problem you are experiencing is almost certainly that the drive itself has failed. It could have also been caused by third party software that you use to support a formatted NTFS volume. Isolate the cause to one or the other is probably not an effort worth it, because the files themselves are probably already damaged and unusable. In this case the only alternative to certain to succeed is to restore from a backup.

As you know the Mac FAT32 and ExFAT supports and can read, but not write - formatted NTFS volume. For this reason, if you ask the Windows compatibility, you must select ExFAT.

You could try using the third-party data recovery software, even if success is not guaranteed. I can offer no specific product recommendations.

  • I want to save my email and then reinstall it after that I have to wipe the hard drive.

I'll update the hard drive wiping and reloading the software I want, get rid of the junk that I have collected over the years. I backed up my data, photos and music from My Documents, etc. but I can't figure out how I can save my email so that when I reinstall Thunderbird I can just empty files saved in the program and I'm back in business. I'm sure that's not hard, but I don't know the meaning of "Computerese" I get lost in technical language. How can I do this?

    Thanks for your help.

If you have saved your whole Documents & Settings (or 'Users' since Vista) then you have probably already what you need.

Thunderbird stores your data and profile settings.

You remember disabling all willing associate JavaScript using the extension of QuickJS? If so, you can see the question if their re-allowing help with Yahoo.

I notice you have some Yahoo related plugins. From 33 Firefox, less common plugins have been passed to "Ask to activate" so sites need your permission to use them. This can be confusing to Yahoo.

To test this theory, you can try to move these plugins on one of the other options:

Always Activate - all sites can use the plugin without specific permission
Never Activate - no sites can use the plugin (unless you give them permission through the Permissions page of the Page Info dialog while viewing the site)

To make this change to open the page modules using either:

       Ctrl+Shift+a
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. I suggest trying to "never activate" first. During the visit of Yahoo mail once again to test, you can use Ctrl + Shift + r to reload the fresh site from the server (without using cached files
