Inaccessible Application Data folder in Win7

You want to be able to migrate customizations to an application, I need to copy a folder of Documents and Settings/user/Application name Data on my old computer to the same location on my new machine.  However, the new computer is a Win7 OS.  I myself share rights to Documents and Settings and also user name given, but I can not activate myself share the Application Datafolder.   Without that access, I can't copy folder in Application Data.

I read that Win7 use users instead of Documents and Settings folder, so I repeated the sharing changes to users and user name , but could not make changes to sharing for the folder/Users/user/Application Data name.

How can I copy a folder in the Application data on a pc with Win7?

Follow these steps:

Press on + R to open the run, type %APPDATA%\microsoft\windows\sendto in the box and press OK (including percentage symbols).

The Application Data folder will open, ready to make you insert you need.  No right to authorize must be changed.

From what I've seen myself the urlclassifier3.sqlite file will be of ~ 28 000 KB to ~ 55 000 KB over time. The offline Cache is rarely used by websites to store data, and the Cache file will increase in size, until the user clears the Cache. Help appreciated.

The application data folder is supposed to be a hidden folder.  Applications and the operating system use this area to store the information needed to run these applications.

You can display it by activating the display of hidden folders:

    Double-click any folder
Click on tools-> Folder Options-> View (tab)
Then click on the check box "Show hidden files, folders and readers."
    "OK" your way out.

  • Copies nested in the Application Data folder

Running Windows 7 64 bit.  In my c:\Documents and Settings\All Users folder there is a folder of application data.  If I develop this folder I find what appears to be a complete copy of all the 'All Users' files, including another folder "Application Data".  If I develop this folder, I get another copy of everything, including (guess youe), "data Applications.  Extend only one, same thing... That's at least 27 levels.  What's happening?

    Hello TucsonBill,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Forum!

    (a) are you referring to the application data folder?

However we have folder AppData is hidden and Documents and settings can be found on the command prompt.

Try to run an online virus scan to remove the malware running on the computer, please scan online by visiting the following link:

    http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the local settings and Application data have been replaced by a single folder, % userprofile%\AppData\Local.

In order to accomplish the appropriate redirection, you need two junctions:

    (1) a junction of local settings, which will transmit programs going
%USERPROFILE%\Local settings in the new folder.

    (2) the junctions of an Application Data * inside the new folder * that points to itself, to get the programs to access the data in % userprofile%\LocalSettings\Application.

If you think about it, it makes sense... when the program accesses local parameters, it will get passed in the folder, it should be in, however, it also accesses a folder named Application Data * in the correct folder it needs * (since it has already been redirected by the junction of local settings), so the junction of Application data should point to itself that things are working properly.

I suggest you check the security settings on your Application data junction (C:\users\yourname\appdata\local) (you will need to select display operating system files in folder options in Explorer window).

Go to the Security tab, click Advanced, then change and make sure that you see a refuse permission for everyone on the list.

If it is not a list, create a 'all' and check the box under Deny next of ' read the file / data list.

I hope this information helps. Please get back to us if you have any other questions on this subject.

    Thanks and greetings

  • What is dwm.exe file I found suddenly in my application data folder?

I had problems with my hung on a file named dwm.exe anti-virus software.  I go back there since last night windows prefetch file.  I have no idea what this file is located, I can't draw any type of file association properties and whenever I try to move it to the trash, I get a message saying that I can't access because it is used.  When I go to Task Manager and stop the process, it simply appears again a few minutes later just return in application, but not associated with a particular program data folder.  Avast is not seen as a virus when parsing, but it keeps popping up as the source of several warnings of malware by the anti-virus program.  What the devil am I going here?

If you have Vista - even if you have posted in forum Windows XP - dwm.exe is the Vista Desktop Window Manager and is responsible for the graphic effects to Microsoft Windows Vista operating system such as the live previews of windows 3D effects and transparencies to windows.

What version of Windows you have, including the service pack?

Do not include in C:\Windows\prefetch... those who are not 'real' files but are used by Windows for loading of the speed of the applications.  Do not delete something \prefetch with the idea that doing so will improve performance.  It will not.

You say that your anti-virus software warns of this file, but then say that "Avast sees a virus during the scanning."  If you simultaneously run two anti-virus applications, don't.  Choose a.

What antivirus and anti-malware applications do you use?  That are configured to run all the time (that is, in the background scan)?

This program complains dwm.exe and what is the exact message?

Finally, it is always possible that the malware has disguised himself using a legitimate file name.  Where is (other than \prefetch) location dwm.exe?  Right click and take a look at its properties and its relationship to what you see.  If not in C:\Windows\system32, there probably IS malware.

  • Change the default location for the Application Data folder

    Hello

I'm using SQl Developer Version 4.0.0.13 (Build HAND-13, 80) on Windows XP.

Is there a way to change the path to the SQL Developer from C:\Documents and Settings\ < myuser > developer \Application Data\SQL files?

    Kind regards

    Yes, see this post.

Basically, you want to add this line to your sqldeveloper.conf file

    AddVMOption - Duser.home =

And then set it in the directory you want to use.

    Hello

    I have a problem and a question.

First of all, my problem is that I use the WLS 10.3 DefaultServer for a project of the ADF, but external Web Services, I use filenames WS clients compiled is long when deployed to the DefaultServer. I shorted to try to bring the by virtue of the limitation of Windows 255 but the fact that JDeveloper creates the default domain in the folder 'C:\Documents and Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.1.33.54.07 XXXX', I lose 94 characters already deployment before the application files. The deployment is normally on the first pass, but afterwards, I have to manually delete the system11.x folder to deploy again. Any ideas or suggestion in addition to shorting packages etc...

OK, my Question is simple, how do I change the default configuration of JDeveloper do NOT use the folder 'C:\Documents and xxxx Data'?

    Please advise,

    Hello

Use SET JDEV_USER_HOME = to set your userhome on C drive.

You can also start Jdev using jdev - su to create your system inside the folder /jdeveloper. This also creates your directory under jdeveloper mywork.

Try a system restore to a Date before the problem began:

    Restore point:

Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

  • In Vista, application data file paths are not displayed properly, example C:\users\skywatcher\appdata\local\application data\application data\application data\application data\application data\

I have a problem with a directory of the user.

    The path is C:\users\skywatcher\appdata\local\application data.

Application directory data are hidden.  However, by using the command "dir / ah" will show the directory as a 'carrefour '.

The problem is that this directory is the directory even inside himself to the seemingly infinite nesting.

    in other words.

C:\users\skywatcher\appdata\local\application data\application data\application data\application data\application data\ etc. until that the path cannot be displayed below.

A problem with an app I'm trying to run it.

    Y at - it a cure?

    Thank you

These nested application data files contain any data?  If so, is it the same as that contained in the original folder?

I would like to treat this situation as a corrupt user profile.  To fix this use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.  If that is the only available Administrator Profile (you need to be an administrator to fix this), enable the Hidden Administrator Account (HAA) using http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords&p=1&tid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055&mid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055.  If you don't remember the password, try nothing because that's probably what you (or seller) did during the installation.  Once that is done, don't forget to disable the HAA to save it in case it is necessary once again and for safety reasons (since people often try to hack into systems using this account).  Do NOT use the HAA as your administrator account because if you lose the only administrator on the system account or it is damaged again, then you're watered.

When he is in the process of copy on the old profile files and folders, I first copy the folder of Application data to another location, just in case the change it causes unexpected problems - just make a copy and put it in your Documents folder for now (you can remove it later if everything works as expected). Remove the nested application data folders (unless they contain information are not not in the main folder - then I would probably copy it in the main folder, and then delete).  This, so that there is only one Application data folder.  Then copy it to the new profile.  You may have problems to access these records.  If Yes, click on properties, advanced security and check if all the user has denied access.  If so delete this entry and you should be able to work with the folder.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Transfer of application data (in the XP of Document settings) to Vista

    • I just got the new Dell with Vista and wanted to copy the mail Thunderbird profile (contain all previous emails) which was located in the Application Data folder (in Document settings) of my previous XP on the new computer Vista. Of course, it is very important for me to get Thunderbird running in the new PC. I can't locate the Application Data folder in Vista to do. Is that someone can help me to locate the location of the "Application Data" folder in Vista or maybe new name of the folder that the Thunderbird profile is run in Windows Vista?

Application data is located in C:\Users\Change Data.  You may need to show hidden and system files go to start / Control Panel / folder Options / View / and check the button to see the system and hidden files.  I don't know if this is where Thunderbird is headed as I am not familiar with this program.  Please post if it does not help and I will refer you to a forum where they can potentially help you with the installation of Thunderbird and to transfer old data at the same time so what is expected here does not work.

Your best bet to transfer files and settings from XP to Vista is to use Easy Transfer.  You will need to re - install Thunderbird and all your other programs as there is no way to transfer programs from one computer to another (even with 3rd-party programs) without the help of an upgrade installation (which is not possible in this case).  Here are the procedures: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Migrating-Vista-using-Windows-Easy-Transfer.html and here is another article that may be useful (it covers more than a simple easy transfer but if you scroll down the article you will come to this article and it is very informative): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748915 (WS.10) .aspx.

    I hope this helps.

  • Can't access to the application data Windows 7

I am logged on as administrator, but cannot access the Application Data folder. It shows that the folder as being locked (padlock). I have the security settings for this workstation, but cannot access many files? Where can I change the settings?

The application data folder is just a re - direct to the new version of the short name.  It is only there for compatibility, and since he is not a real file, you cannot open it.

To get the files you want, you must do this:

    1. Press +R to display the race.
    2. Type %AppData% , and then click OK.
