Transfer of application data (in the XP of Document settings) to Vista

  • I just got the new Dell with Vista and wanted to copy the mail Thunderbird profile (contain all previous emails) which was located in the Application Data folder (in Document settings) of my previous XP on the new computer Vista. Of course, it is very important for me to get Thunderbird running in the new PC. I can't locate the Application Data folder in Vista to do. Is that someone can help me to locate the location of the "Application Data" folder in Vista or maybe new name of the folder that the Thunderbird profile is run in Windows Vista?

Application data is located in C:\Users\Change Data.  You may need to show hidden and system files go to start / Control Panel / folder Options / View / and check the button to see the system and hidden files.  I don't know if this is where Thunderbird is headed as I am not familiar with this program.  Please post if it does not help and I will refer you to a forum where they can potentially help you with the installation of Thunderbird and to transfer old data at the same time so what is expected here does not work.

Your best bet to transfer files and settings from XP to Vista is to use Easy Transfer.  You will need to re - install Thunderbird and all your other programs as there is no way to transfer programs from one computer to another (even with 3rd-party programs) without the help of an upgrade installation (which is not possible in this case).  Here are the procedures: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Migrating-Vista-using-Windows-Easy-Transfer.html and here is another article that may be useful (it covers more than a simple easy transfer but if you scroll down the article you will come to this article and it is very informative): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748915 (WS.10) .aspx.

I hope this helps.

Good luck! Lorien - MCSA/MCSE/network + / A +.

    Step 1:

Check if the same phenomenon occurs in another user account. To create a new user account, follow the link below.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/create-a-user-account

    Step 2:

If the new user account works fine then the old account has been corrupted, you can follow the link given below to fix the corrupted user profile.

  • How to choose the spelling multilingual document settings and change it on the fly...

With the help of multilingual documents is a problem - I often need to check spelling in different languages as you type. An indicator in the menu would be a great help...

    Best regards

As you normally do for applications that use the spellchecker to Apple is going in Edition > spelling and grammar > show spelling and grammar in each app and all of the dictionary that you need for the specific text that you control.

If you can mark portions of text as being in a specific language depends on the application.  I think that only Apple apps that can do that can be the old Pages 4 and iBooks author.

Note that some applications (like MS Word) not to use the spellchecker to Apple and have their own internal systems.

  • Can not unlock the files in Documents & Settings folder on can I 7

Windows 7 won't let me edit the security permissions in the folder Documents & settings even with admin privileges, so I can open it with the file.  Any action that I am trying just reminds me of the change owner screen that says I don't have permission to view the access settings.  Never can get to the window to actually change the permissions.  I just did a clean reinstall of the system because of a problem.  Access permissions were no problem until I did the re-install.

You're not locked: this file does not actually exist in Windows 7.  But backward compatibility to old programs that look for this name, they put a redirect (called a symbolic link) in place.  So, it looks like a folder, but it is not really a record at all.

    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry

    Windows Vista forward: C:\Users\Jerry

They were replaced by a smaller folder 'Users' of a single word, but apart from the name change, it's the same folder.  Again once the 'Documents and Settings' you see is not really a file, it's just a redirect of compatibility so old programs that await the long name will not crash when used on Windows Vista/7 from.

PS. You should not even SEE this redirect normally link, it shows that if you go to Folder Options and turn on the 'display protected system files and folders' and 'display the hidden files and folders '.  That is why the link is kind of ghost and gray, because it is a hidden link junction, not a real folder.

  • Don't see the screen applications & data after the update means that your data has been erased?

I've just updated to iOS 10 and there is installed, but it shows a screen called Apps & data and gives options to restore the data, set it up as a new iPad or move data from Android. I was wondering if it meant that my data has been deleted completely?

    It's an iPad running iOS 10 4.

Yes. This screen is available only after a deletion.

Otherwise, I guess I could create my own 'My Documents' folder.

Some programs store information in the Documents folder. Some may be moved and others not. If you do not want a mixture, then you should probably create your own 'My Documents' folder.

  • Transparent encryption of the application data in the CARS

    Hi gurus,

    AIX - 6.1
    Oracle 11 g RAC 2

I created a portfolio on node 1 and copied (scp) on the other node cluster and closed the wallet and re-opened, but only one instance a portfolio opened not theother.

When I try to open it on another instance, it closes on the first. How can I make the portfolio opened on the two instance.

If I have to start over again what I have to do is to close out of the wallet the wallet file and create a new portfolio, correct? Its new database without data on it again.

    SQL > alter open to set system portfolio identified by 'pwd ';

    Modified system.

    SQL > select INST_ID select, status of gv$ encryption_wallet;

    INST_ID SELECT STATUS
    ---------- ------------------
    1 CLOSED
    2. OPEN

But I am able to query that data from these two instances... even with the wallet close to a single node.

    Is this behavior?

Please help me solve this problem...

    Thank you

In GR 11, 2, it is recommended to put the Oracle Wallet in a file system shared at the top of the ASM, called ACFS. If this is not possible, just bounce node 2 and you are ready, your portfolios will be synchronized.

  • Copies nested in the Application Data folder

Running Windows 7 64 bit.  In my c:\Documents and Settings\All Users folder there is a folder of application data.  If I develop this folder I find what appears to be a complete copy of all the 'All Users' files, including another folder "Application Data".  If I develop this folder, I get another copy of everything, including (guess youe), "data Applications.  Extend only one, same thing... That's at least 27 levels.  What's happening?

    Bill

    Hello TucsonBill,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Forum!

    (a) are you referring to the application data folder?

However we have folder AppData is hidden and Documents and settings can be found on the command prompt.

Try to run an online virus scan to remove the malware running on the computer, please scan online by visiting the following link:

    http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the local settings and Application data have been replaced by a single folder, % userprofile%\AppData\Local.

In order to accomplish the appropriate redirection, you need two junctions:

    (1) a junction of local settings, which will transmit programs going
%USERPROFILE%\Local settings in the new folder.

    (2) the junctions of an Application Data * inside the new folder * that points to itself, to get the programs to access the data in % userprofile%\LocalSettings\Application.

If you think about it, it makes sense... when the program accesses local parameters, it will get passed in the folder, it should be in, however, it also accesses a folder named Application Data * in the correct folder it needs * (since it has already been redirected by the junction of local settings), so the junction of Application data should point to itself that things are working properly.

I suggest you check the security settings on your Application data junction (C:\users\yourname\appdata\local) (you will need to select display operating system files in folder options in Explorer window).

Go to the Security tab, click Advanced, then change and make sure that you see a refuse permission for everyone on the list.

If it is not a list, create a 'all' and check the box under Deny next of ' read the file / data list.

I hope this information helps. Please get back to us if you have any other questions on this subject.

    Thanks and greetings

  • What is the way to find out which app is downloading data from the internet?

Every time I connect to internet, I see that nearly 100 MB of data is is downloaded, without my consent. I did almost all the applications that I know to ask my permission before you download.

Yet, some applications are downloading data without my consent.
I would like to know what are the applications that do.

What is the way to find out which app is downloading data from the internet?

There is background applications that automatically transfer and receive data when the computer is connected to the internet. Try if there is active apps running.

    1. click Alt + Ctrl + Del to go to start Task Manager / Applications and end unnecessary tasks.

    2. go in Control Panel / programs / uninstall a program and uninstall unwanted programs.

    I hope this helps.
