InDesign CS5 and CS6 scripts changes/incompatibilities

I'm new to scripting InDesign and need to write a JavaScript very complex for InDesign using the Toolbox. My concerns are if CS5/5.5 users will be able to run the script written for CS6. He knows incompatibilities with different versions? If Yes, where can I find a document to compare the differences. I will probably need support the CS5 and CS6 (and anything in between), so a possible solution would be to build for CS5, but if I do, will I'm missing out on all the new key features of CS6?

There are differences of 1 DOM version to another and they can and will break your script, if you have not designed to handle. For example:

If you want to use script like me labels (because they are awesome) the following will break if you use CS5 or later:

app.activeDocument.pageItems.item("myLabel").remove();

So, you have to force the DOM to V6.0. But when you do so be sure to come back to the original version after you're done or you can create more problems. This can be done like this:

app.scriptPreferences.version = 6.0; // CS4's DOM version
app.activeDocument.pageItems.item("myLabel").remove();
app.scriptPreferences.version = 10.2; // Current CC DOM version

It is very annoying (for me at least), so I wrap functions that require DOM changes with a customized version changer to handle this for me. Regarding the list of incompatibilities? Not sure, maybe someone here has one, I know that jongware has a website with all the DOM password 1 version to another. This can be found here:

  • inDesign CS5 and CS6 inCopy workflow problem

    I looked further discussions and did not answer the question to our problem.

    We are a small publishing company and we have the license for about 7 inDesign CS5 best we bought a year ago.  We have contracts with external publishers to change content for us using inCopy.  Last year, there is no problem.  But any new Editor under contract we sign today, which in turn buys inCopy, we have problems with our talk with one of the other files.  All new editors under contract are able to purchase inCopy CS6.  This leaves us with the problem of having to inDesign CS5 on about 7 or so of our used machines and 6-8 CS 5.5 InCopy on outside contracted publishers and another 3-4 editors under contracts with inCopy CS6.  When publishers with inCopy CS6 try to open our InDesign CS5 files, either they will not open at all, or they will open, the editor working on the project for a while, their program crashes and they aren't able to recover (reopening) the files again.  Which translates into lost hours at work.

    Has anyone encountered this problem?  Is there a work around or a quick fix.  We hate having to upgrade to CS6 for all our copies in InDesign home and then ask our external publishers have inCopy cs5.5 upgrade to CS6.

    If this is the case, when CS7 comes out and we are hiring more outside editors, we must continually go through the process of upgrading again?  It is too expensive to use and our existing contract publishers.

    All thoughts are a help would be appreciated.

    It is one of the error messages from a Publisher under external contract using inCopy CS6.  The file crashed after several hours of work, when the Publisher went to reopen the case, they have received this error.  Which seems to be a generic error code that does not tell us anything.

    Hello Rufus,

    Unfortunately the different versions of InDesign and InCopy work well with each other. More recent versions of the program should be able to open to older files, but they can't save backward. I don't know what the cause of errors with newer versions of InCopy however.

    You are able to open the InCopy CS6 files on your computers?

  • TIF / TIFF support of import in Indesign CS5.5 / CS6

    Hello

    I can't find a reference for the limits of the type of TIFF file as Indesign CS5.5 / CS6 can support.

    for example, Indesign cannot import a TIFF file with CCITT Group 4 compression / CCITT Group 3

    I thought Indesign can support all kinds of TIFF and I was denied when I tried to import a TIFF file with compression CCITT 4 (black and white TIFF).

    "Error occurred during reading of TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Re-save the image with different settings, and then try again. »

    Can anyone confirm this import TIFF CCITT Group 4 and CITT Group 3 compression is not supported (and Indesign can only import TIFF LZW, ZIP support or no compression) (Honours)?

    It seems odd that Indesign adjustable CCITT Group 4 as a format of compression to monochrome images in the PDF export options export but does not support in its import options. Am I missing a plugin/update that can do this?

    Also, can someone point me to a list of graphic images that Indesign can import (preferably with detailed information that he may have subsets that are not supported)?

    I can only find " " http://help.Adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/CS/using/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6bdea.h tml ".

    Thank you

    Beyond the information provided by Steve Werner...

    It is true that Photoshop cannot save an image on two levels (i.e. single bit monochrome) TIFF CCITT Group 4 compresses (or group 3-compresses).

    However, Acrobat Pro can save PDF as CCITT Group 4 compressed TIFF Group 3

    And I confirm that InDesign cannot place a CCITT Group 4 or group-3 compressed TIFF image.

    Ironically, Photoshop can open TIFF CCITT Group 4 compressed files but when simply save even saves TIFF compressed into ZIP files.

    So, the quickest way for the placement of your CCITT Group 4 TIFF files compressed in InDesign is to simply open and resave the TIFF files in Photoshop.

    Yes, a hack villain, but it allows you to work around this limitation.

  • Open Photoshop CS5 and CS6

    I can't open the versions of Photoshop CS5 and CS6 simultaneously. When I run the CS6, and then CS5 application, it takes me to CS6 and vice versa.

    Is it possible to keep open both versions? With Indesign I can do.

    And on a Mac.  On a PC acresofgreen is exactly right.  Only one can be open at a time.

  • loading of cs5 and cs6 on my new computer

    I have not converted to the cloud.

    I have bought a new computer and want to install both versions CS5 and CS6 on my new computer.

    I don't want to disable them on my old computer until I am sure they are loaded on my new computer that I have an upcoming project and don't want to be stressed to get their load on my new computer.

    I have an Adobe user since 2005. I need a human Adobe to discuss it with.

    Condition that the new computer and old computer are all two Windows or Mac, then you're good to go.

    Download the installers CS5 and CS6 on the new computer, install and then enter your serial number. That's all.

    Download Adobe Creative Suite 5 products

    Download Creative Suite 6 applications

    You can leave the software enabled on the old computer. You are allowed a maximum of two activations of the software at any time, as long as you use only one at a time.

    What adobe acrobat is compatible with indesign cs5 and has preflight tools, like to check the density of the ink?

    You posted in an old, dead, forum. But now, I found your message... Acrobat is not compatible with InDesign, they did not need to work together. You should NEVER use always distill with InDesign, export. Acrobat Pro preflight tools has, and the only version you can buy is Acrobat Pro DC.

  • Can I uninstall CS5 and CS6 before downloading CC?

    I have Master Creative Suite CS5 (drive) installed on my iMAC running Mountain Lion 10.8.5.  Some time ago, I subscribed to the creative cloud and installed CS6.  Problem it caused me to have to wipe the hard drive and restore from the backup drive.  My last backup was in September last year which was before I installed creative applications Cloud CC.  I would like to install the CC apps.  Uninstall the CS5 and CS6 apps first? At this point, neither CS5 or CS6 applications have been updated.

    Hi Stormy_Weather,

    It would be best to uninstall CS5 and CS6 before installing creative Cloud applications as previous versions are restored from a backup who could cause problems.

    Kind regards

  • I work in InDesign CS5 and have a problem with the panels on the right. Some of them are empty. Ideas?

    I work in InDesign CS5 and have a problem with the panels on the right. the panels color chart, paragraph styles, and totally blank menus link. I pulled upward from publications that I already worked on and they are still virgins. I tried to load styles from other pubs, ID, and that does not work either. I can see them when I go to create a new style and use BASED on function.

    Any ideas?
