Index entry contains invalid characters

I inserted 11000 index markers in the text (laws in a book of business or great law) files, and import that they appear correctly in the index Panel. But when I want to generate the index, the dreaded message arrives:

"The index could not be generated. One or more index entries contains invalid characters. Please remove all invalid characters from the index entries. »

From what I've been able to collect discussions found elsewhere, this is sometimes caused by caractΦres inserted as separators etc. in the dialog box 'Generate the Index', but it's not those, I checked.

Also, most of the entries are very similar (cases and articles) and I tried to generate an index with just a few pages of text containing the same type of entries, and then it works fine.

Any suggestions?

Make a copy of your document.

Then, start cutting it upward. Remove half the story (or half of the pages). Problem still there?

Remove the half once again? Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Isolate the text at the origin of the problem.

Perhaps begin by making sure it actually works with a single sentence, however.

I tried to install 32-bit Client Oracle 12 c version 3 on my Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I use 32-bit is because Visual Studio is a 32-bit application. The application of the compilation will be deployed on the server with 64-bit drivers. Sort failed to install the diligence carried out with:

The name of the node contains alphanumeric characters and hyphens, so I don't know why it is not valid.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

OK, the problem is resolved. The issue was due to the host name. At some point, we transition to windows 7 from XP, so they created the new virtual machine that were the old names with the suffix "-7". So if you have an XP VM to "vm-Dev-1234567", it would become "vm-Dev-1234567-7". "." Unfortunately, Active Directory has truncated the name of 15 characters, so we end up with "vm - Dev - 1234567 -", but the truncated character somehow confused the customer Oracle 12 c. The installer would have failed the prerequisite and say that this node is not valid. He said not invalid character '_', just ' "without the quotes.

I rename my VM to the name without the '-7' at the end. After that, the customer Oracle 12 c Setup no longer stuck at the stage of system requirements and the installation was successful.

    Thanks Jongware,

    I thoroughly have the bug.

In Polish typography should be used in compound words , pair of characters in: conditional dash and hyphen nonbreaking to resume link on the left edge of the column. (He is Polish and Slovak rulez).

This pair worked very well in CS2.

(From cs3 or cs4 I don't remember) is not important to this pair of characters, just language Polish or Slovak of choice. And these hyphens are duplicated on the left edge of a column on the fly.

But the docx file import engine still has the bug. If someone put such pair for MS Word, docx file, InDesign cs 5.5 cannot import properely in the InDesign document.

I checked the my document idml file

Reference topic should be Yat - Kha. In MS Word, there is [conditional and hyphen nonbreaking hyphen] Kha

but inside the reference in idml topic file is something like this I sgned in bold:

  • derivative of the Index entries

I am creating an index and would like to see my index entries highlighted in the text during the indexing process. Obviously, these are non-printable. I know that I can view hidden characters and see the blue signs, but there they are so small and difficult to discern with the representation of things hidden character all.

I thought about setting up of a temporary character style, but some of the entries already have a different character style. Can I do something with layers?

Ideally, I would like to see a transparent yellow highlight as what you can do with the Acrobat commenting tools.

I see two problems with your idea

    1. the position of the index mark. It may be the beginning of a Word, or at the end or somewhere in the middle. In fact, it does not matter even if its anywhere near the word, as it is on the same page!

    2. the indexed text. Suppose you have a book on cats and dogs. For the index, you can add all of the cats like 'cats' and dogs like ' canines - the word you put into the Index Entry add should not be literally in your text. '. Another example is "Indexing", which would be indexed as "index" or possibly "index, creating a".

    Now on the right thing!

You can create a GREP style that highlights the text surrounding an index mark. GREP styles are amazing - even if they apply character Styles, they interfere with any existing character styles! They blend together perfectly. It does not totally reliable - more on that below - but the general idea is:

    a. create a new character style 'Brand of Index'. Set it to emphasize and underline options, set 12 pt thickness, offset to pt - 3 and color to something real bright.

    b. in your main paragraph for the plain text style (you 're using paragraph styles, you're not? if not, you should!), select "GREP Styles.

    c. Add a new GREP style. Define its character style 'Brand of Index' and 'Text' '~I\w+' field - it's an eye in capital letters. Do not add quotation marks.

    d. Add another style GREP. Also define its style of character 'Brand of Index' and set the "text" field "\w+~I" (again, the eye uppercase, no quotes needed).

    e. click OK. Your index entries get highlighted.

Why is this not perfect? Well, I guess it goes beyond what the Adobe engineers have been imagine we would use GREP styles to. The index mark, tilde-capital eye, seems to mess up the text turns a little. Therefore, the usual "\w+" expected thing pick up as many "Word characters" possible suddenly fails and may be missing a few characters.

It takes two GREP styles, rather than a ubiquitous '\w*~I\w*' because this was to pick up all the words containing an index mark, but, in reality, does not pick up anything at all.

There is another small disadvantage: because it's true underlining, it will also print and appear in the PDF files. But it is easily resolved: print (or export to PDF, or whatever), go to the character style "Benchmark" and turn off the underline. If you need to see the markers, put it back on and hey! They - re ba - ack!

  • flatten to a string for sending via TCP/IP contains CRLF characters

    Hello

I use a function 'flatten in string' to send data via TCP/IP.

To minimize delays, I use CRLF mode so that the receive function returns as soon as it receives a sequence CRLF (stop character).
I noticed that every now and then that part of the data is transmitted as the flattened string itself sometimes (but rarely) contains CRLF characters.
I was wondering if this is a correct behavior, or if I'm missing something. I expected to flatten to string in order to get channels pure ASCII without special characters.

Now I must first parse the string replace the CRLF characters of some known series of characters and do the opposite to the front desk and hope that that particular sequence never occurs.

    Any comment is appreciated,

    Manu

    mkdieric wrote:

I don't know why you would think this. A CR or LF is no more extraordinary than any character. In addition, the string you out is not "ASCII" and has never been--check the documentation. The output is entirely dependent on the entry, and it is perfectly possible to get a (hex 13) CR followed by a LF (10 hex) if the entry would produce flattened data which means that.

A better method, in my opinion, is to precede that you send with the number of bytes to wait. Then beside reception read you a fixed number of bytes for the numerical value that indicates the number of bytes comes, and read you this amount. The examples provided with LabVIEW show you this method.

  • How can I delete an Index Entry?

I created an index entry in Chapter 10 of my FrameMaker book and I have no idea how to do to look it up.

Pointing out the entry in the index itself (linked photo):Capture.PNG

It shows me in the Pod marker:Capture2.PNG

I'm looking for the word that I accidentally created an index entry 'the' from?

    Thanks in advance.

Markers on top of the other may be impossible to distinguish or select individually, without insertion of some temporary wide space characters to push them out. This stacking happens usually when a heading or caption is used for two or more: TOC, IX, Xref.

Thus, FM, go to the offending source page and click on the top left of the main text block. Open the special > marker dialogue. Make a Edit > find/replace by marker Type: Indexand [find]. That each is, its text marker will appear in the marker dialog box. Keep find until you get to the Index mark that you need to remove: press the delete key.

  • How to find and replace text in the index entries?

    Hello

Recently, I copied a manual to create a new one for another product. After a global search and replace the product names and other texts, I needed to replace a specific word that appears in the index entries.

I noticed the search box would allow me to search the text of the marker, but I had to replaceme the word by hand - cut and paste the new Word, click on change the marker to save it and then find the next occurrence.

    Hello community,

When sending Mail 'icloud.com' emails and use special characters like the German a, o, u, the problem is, that in the recipients email client mail received contain strange characters.

All the information is right there in email, but email encoding changed to "us-ascii" must to "utf - 8" to do it manually. "" Were not all my recipients technically able to do that. (o)

Apple support suggested a solution to iCloud: If recipients cannot read any mail send you them :

In iCloud Mail, click the Action pop-up menu in the sidebar, and then choose Preferences.

    (1) click on compose.

    (2) select "Send outgoing messages using Unicode (UTF-8)."

    (3) click done.

Unfortunately there is no such field "Send outgoing messages in Unicode (UTF-8)" to activate.

    Hello

Have you run a chkdsk/r to repair problems? Or just the chkdsk standard to detect problems? The first to be performed from a command prompt high and, such that it will be impossible to lock the drive, have to be scheduled to run on a system reboot.

At a high command prompt, click Start and type CMD. Right click on the menu entry that appears and choose "Run as Administrator". Click on continue in the UAC prompt. From the command line, run:

    CHKDSK c: /r

    Press and follow the instructions.

  • ACS RADIUS lost: 11051 RADIUS packet contains invalid state attribute

    Hi all

We lack a very strange problem since a few days now. Our v5.2.0.26 ACS began to drop the connection of wired connections and wireless, with a message "RADIUS request to drop". The detailed message is: "ask RAY dropped: 11051 RADIUS packet contains invalid state attribute.

This message is usually preceded by a ' RADIUS request dropped: 24444 Active Directory operation failed because of an error that is not specified in the ACS ' error.

Communication with Active Directory seems to be ok, since workstations receive a valid ip address when it is connected to a non 802. 1 x switch (Cisco 4506) port.

    Any help grealty appreciated,

Best regards and happy new year to all members,

    Laurent

    Hello Lawrence,.

Please check the connectivity status of AD between the ACS and advertising on all of your ACS (secondary instances as appropriate) servers.

Users and identity stores > external identity stores > Active Directory

The connectivity status shows CONNECTED or DISCONNECTED on any of your ACS servers? If one of the servers is showing as DISCONNECTED, what could be the root cause of the problem.

Hope that does you in the right direction.

    Kind regards.

  • Invalid characters for a hierarchy validation

    Hi all

I'm trying to define validation, such as the nodes in the hierarchy can be only alphanumeric or underscores. I tried to use HasCharacters (propvalue (core. ABBREV), [alpha, Numeric, _]) this formula in validation, with properties and validation on this property, with if conditions, but I am still able to add special characters. That I am I missing, what am I combining it bad?

HasCharacters (varValeurProp (kernel. ABBREV), [alpha, Numeric, _])

    Thank you

    Sam

A character specifies and checks if the specified characters are present or not, it does not limit the other characters, also you can use the InvName system preference to specify invalid characters to be part of a node name, to avoid

You can also try to use the below,

    IsAlphaNumeric (Concat (ArrayItem (Abbrev (), _, 1), ArrayItem (Abbrev (), _,-1)))

Put it in an IF statement that first check the existence of underscore, if it is mandatory.
