  If you have already installed CS6 and you think you don't need CS5, so you can go ahead and remove the CS5 on your machine. This will not delete your user files.

  Photoshop CS6 & Bridge CS6 come with ACR default 7.0.

  For the current version of ACR you can go to Edition-> camera Raw preferences under Bridge CS6.

  Second obvious question: have you run regedit as an administrator?

  I had to take possession of reg key once or 2 (usually because of my own programming bugs) and never seen fail.

  My host is now Ubuntu so I wrestle with the registry a lot, not that Linux does not have a different set of challenges
