inside the text variable page numbers?

Using ID3.  Variables of text for the current titles work well by themselves.  Insert page numbers also works well by itself.  However, I expect that management of the page numbers would be via an additional variable inside the head of the race variable.  Apparently, this is not correct?   I was thinking that something like this would be the best, regarding the layout more tight on my page and a more consistent presentation throughout the final book:

(Sharp hooks attach together variable.)

< [page number variable] EM [title of Book] space > for back

< [chapter number variable] space em space [variable chapter title] [page number variable] em > for front

The only thing I can get to watch right up to now is:

< chapter title variable then em space > < page number variable >

Thanks in advance-

YC

What do you use for your page number variable? You should use a "marker of current Page" fom the Insert menu, so your first string would look like:

[Course marker in page] BookTitle em space (the title is not a variable, is it?). No running head variable at all, unless it is used for the title.

Your second string should look like:

[Chapter number variable] space em space [chapter title varies] em [marker in page courses]

You shouldn't try to embed a variable, or spaces, inside another variable. Maybe I am misinterpreting your sharp hooks?

    Click the mouse cursor exactly on a Page number where it appears on a page.

    Set the color of the characters in the Type Panel.

    "Type" parameters are related to each field Photo text, the text of the Page text, text number of pages, which allows you to set the Style of individual text for each of these three "areas".

    Yours, Earle Fox

    Do the preface of a separate in the book file. In the book window.

    Right click on the file of the preface and choose numbering. On the Page tab.

    First Page # 1 value and Format "Roman (xiv)." Click on define.

  • "Assignment of a top layer of the object on the master" (master page numbers) I understand the layer must be up to show above images placed on the pages, but how can I do this?

    I have added page numbers to my master pages. They appear on the pages, but I have images on the individual pages which cover the numbers. I understand that I must assign a top layer of the object, but I don't understand how to do it. Please help me? Please explain a just clear as possible, I read the other replies but still do not understand. Wish it was as simple as select object, do a right-click, edit the layer!

    Thank you very much!

    1. open the layers panel (window > layers)

    2. in the control panel menu, choose new layer. In the dialog box, you can name the layer if you like Page numbers.

    3. on your main page, select the text block with the selection tool (black arrow tool) page numbers.

    4. If you now look at the layers panel, you will see a small square right of one of your layers (or 1 layer if you have not created any new layers). Drag instead of the layer of Page numbers. [Explanation: the square is a "proxy" for the selected objects.] [Drag to the other layer moves the objects on this layer.]

    Good luck!

  • Need help with the text variables

    I have a directory to which is more than 300 pages long.

    Each entry begins with a photo in a built-in framework shaped like a cat fall, followed by a space en dash and then the name, company, address, e-mail, etc.. Essentially, we have a photo hanging to the left and on the right information.

    The name is the last name in capital letters, first name and middle name propercase. I've defined a character style "Dict Head" and used in a paragraph style as style nested through 3 characters.

    Then, I defined a two text for the instance variable first and last instance on the page of the character style "Dict Head". I have a hyphen between the two variables (the goal is at the head of the race be "AAR - ABE," for example). The application, however, includes space en with three letters.

    I did a GREP search for space en with the applied character style and replaced it with himself, and < None > character style applied and which does not seem to get rid of. My current title looks like this " AAR - ABE." With invisible on I see the en space is still there.

    I deleted the text variables, exported a. File INX, opened soft and recreated the text variables and the spaces are still there.

    I'm open to suggestion.

    Ken

    It seems ID brings together up to three regular characters with which nesting style... (Okay - just tried and the original en-space is also considered to be a 'character' for this number of three.) No matter what... read more, please)

    You can not delete a character with your search and replace nested style. Try it - ID can be found but not change it to [anything].

    Possible workaround would be to not use the style nested to mark the names and put the character marker using a GREP search and replacement style.

  • Get the channel search page numbers

    I've found that I can match a Word and get its page number by making a loop through the numPages, numWords using getNthWord, but I need to get a whole sentence like "api reference".

    The goal is that I need to extract some pages that contain certain phrases. My thought was to find, record page numbers, then extract and save.

    V7 + using all the search.query the search plugin (great search pane) and if you hover over every game it will tell you the page it's on, so I know the data is there. But after scouring the api, I can't seem to find something that could help.

    Here is my current idea, but as you can surmise for documents more large it takes a terrible time long:

    var extrList = [];
    searchIt ("indicate by check");
    App.Alert (extrList)

    function searchIt (srchStr) {}
    var ckWord, numWords;
    var tmpArr = srchStr.split("");
    var tmpArr.length = tmpLen;
    for (var i = 0; i < this.numPages; i ++) {}
    numWords = this.getPageNumWords (i);
    for (var j = 0; j < numWords; j ++) {}
    ckWord = this.getPageNthWord (i, j);
    for (var t = 1; t < tmpLen; t ++) {}
    If (j + tmpLen < numWords) {/ / check out of bounds}
    ckWord += "" + this.getPageNthWord (i, j + t)
    }
    }
    If (ckWord == srchStr) {}
    extrList.push (i)
    } / / end of equality so
    } / / end numword for
    } / / end numpage for
    }

    I guess my question is, is there a better approach for the search expression page numbers?

    Thank you.

    Can't answer your question directly, but I can tell you that it is possible

    use getNthWord to match a sentence. Basically, you need to do what you were doing

    so far (a double loop to find the first word in the sentence), then

    continue the corresponding words. If you match all of them, you can a

    positive match. It's complicated, but doable.

    For example, I just did that in this script, which highlights all instances

    of a word or phrase in a file:

    http://try67.blogspot.com/2008/11/Acrobat-highlight-all-instances-of.html

    Edit: Didn't see the code when I posted this... It seems that you got the hang of it.

    I don't know any other way to do this with a script.

  • Maintaining the automatic numbering in the text variables?

    I have typeset manuals that often have several levels of headings in a single chapter. The editor I work has a style where the first 3 levels, or of the positions will be numbered, 8, 8.1, 8.1.1. No problem. Set up the paragraph styles with auto numbering, each title to another level added for automatic numbering, and it works like a charm. The only problem is that common titles are also supposed to include these numbers with the topics. The left page, the title of the chapter, is so good because I can just insert the chapter number before the current title paragraph style text variable: 8. "chapter title." But the right page must indicate the chapter number, first number of lower level and title (8.1 "topic"). When I use a text for this variable, the numbering created by the original paragraph style disappears from the topic. If I give the leader running his own style of paragraph numbered on the master page, it will always tell '. " 1,"even when the topic changes because there is nothing for him say to start a new number. For my current project, the first sublevel of the section change every 4 or 5 pages. So I'm hoping someone can help me find a way, I don't have to do it manually. Can inDesign keep autodial? Can anyone recommend a script possible or plug-in? All comments will be welcomed with gratitude!

    Thanks for the question. I saw this problem, but never had the need to work around him... until now!

    Variable text header running InDesign cannot capture the numbering of the paragraph.

    To work around it:

    Implementation:

    To create a character style to be used as a style nested within the lower level paragraph style. For testing and editing, assign a color of character; for use, change the color of the characters None or paper.

    To create a cross-reference format that captures only one paragraph Autonumbering.

    Create a character-style-based running header text variable to capture the reference; insert it into the master page.

    Use:

    * At the end of the lower level heading, insert a special character the end Style nested here.

    Continuation of the nested end marker style, insert a reference to the paragraph, using the single paragraph number format.

    The cross reference will be the color of the characters of the nested character style "fakednumber".

    The variable based on the character style to a running header text will seize the number of referrals.

    * For final hand, change the color of the style of characters fakednumber None or paper.

    Notes:

    Cross reference is placed at the right end of the paragraph of title rather than at the beginning, to avoid moving the header text. If he has withdrawal is sufficient between real auto-nombre of the paragraph and the beginning of the title, it would be possible to insert the cross-reference it.

    * Because the cross-reference occupies space on the line of position even when it is invisible, remember that it does not cause the line to be returned on a new line. You can set the size of character fakednumber style property as a very small, same font size reduce the horizontal scale, in order to minimize the risk of a new packaging line, as well as defining its color to None or paper to make it invisible.

    * When preparing a book for final hand, you can change the character of the fakednumber style definition in the Source of the Style file and synchronize it with all the other files in the book, or you can perform a search and replace across all files in Notepad to replace the instances found visible from fakednumber with the invisible style.

    * To simplify the modification of the definition of fakednumber from the visible to the invisible, consider creating two files of model to this end; one contains the definition of visible, the other contains the definition of the invisible. Load character style definition in the style source, and then synchronize the character on the book styles.

    Mission possible:

    * To simplify this task in the future, nag Adobe do running variable header text capable of capturing the numbering by filing an official request here: Adobe - feature request/Bug Report Form.

    *

  • How can I find the original printed page numbers in iBooks?

    I often need a paper as I don't know the original page number.   When we teach or a group, often refer to page numbers, and people with iBooks will be lost.

    iBooks would better adoption if iBooks would allow just anyone to perform a search on a page number and the original paragraph/sentence, or allow someone to select text and display the original page and the paragraph/sentence.

  • Muse do not save the changes inside the text boxes

    Several (but not all) pages on my site of Muse are not saving the changes I make inside a text of some box. I can not specifically with the choice of font, size, color, line spacing and super/index. I tried to disable in-browser editing and some of the pages have since begun to save but not to save even more. After I made changes and saved the site, when I close the program and open it then later these paragraph changes back to the original.

    I am very confused about why it's only a few pages and why that is the case at all. Any ideas or solutions would be useful! Thank you!

    I think I found a solution. It seems that the problems I had with the changes that do not stick were somehow connected to the tool 'copy of development shaped at all breakpoints. Once I started into implementing shaped each breakpoint by hand he started saving properly.

  • Table of contents, separating the positions and Page numbers

    Hello

    I work with a table of contents in InDesign CC. Some of the titles that appear in the table will be very long and the next line. I want to wrap up before it hits the right hanging tab so that there is a visual separation between the page numbers and text. I understand that I can do it manually, but I want to do it consistently because it is a model for a large number of documents.

    Here's what I want it to look, the important thing is that the long position:

    1. regular position... 5

    1.1 regular subheading... 6

    2. long title that I hope

    a smart person would reduce

    down anyway............................................................ 8

    As opposed to:

    1.      Regular Heading...................................................... 5

    1.1 regular subheading... 6

    2. long title this person smart hopefullya would be

    cut down anyway..................................................... 8

    Any ideas? Is it possible to have an active table of content in a table? Or maybe something else? Expand on a second column?

    Well, looks like you know how to a negative indent on the left margin; you know, apply a few dash to the left margin, then some Indent first line. Look carefully at your dash controls in your toolbar: apply some indent right margin, then a few negative withdrawal of last line, and you can get your table of contents behaves exactly as you wish.

    I can take a few screenshots for you later if my description is not obvious.

  • How to indicate the text in Pages 5.6.2?

    There must be an easy fix that I simply do not see...

    text/style/outline or shadow is not what I'm looking for.  I just want to put a white border around the black text in a text box

    anyone?

    There is no text control that will allow you to do this in v5.6.2 Pages. You can insert two text boxes. The first receives a contrasting background color, and the second is "Shrink Wrap" enclose your text with the value of 1 pt white text box border.

    Click the text box containing your text. In the Format Panel, select the text and layout. Reduce the text insert to 1 pt, so you can have closer tolerance white box around your text. Scale of the area of text encompassing too tight it fits.

    With the two selected text boxes, visit the tab reorganize and text wrapping set to None. Select only your box with the text and click the button front tab reorder. Now you can drag your text in white-box above your text box in contrast. With the two boxes are enabled, you can center and middle align two text boxes:
