INSPIRON 1545 time-clock stopped

Hello

My 2 year old grandson has decided to play with my INSPIRON 1545, I had left on while I was preparing dinner. It was touching and hit all the keys at once for a good 3-4 minutes before I could leave what I was doing to stop it as I stupidly thought that no harm could be done at laptop computer system simply by working the keyboard too!

In 3-4 minutes of him knocking and tapping multiple keys on the keyboard of my laptop closed of the isolates and it was not until the grandson returned home a few hours later I tried to restart the laptop and discovered that it would not 'start '.

When I turn the laptop on I see the LOGO DELL page and for about 30 seconds, I get a black screen with the message "Time-of-day clock stopped" in the upper left. I tried everything to go beyond this error message such as turn on by pressing constantly F2 and F12 and F8 but... nothing is only two screenshots I get are the DELL LOGO screen then black screen with "Time-of-day clock stopped" message.

I tried calling DELL technical support, but I stayed on hold every time after that I gave them the 'service number'... I give up after 10-15 to be kept waiting... I now gave up on 4 - 5 times after having gone through the same exact ritual with DELL technical support 4 - 5 times without ever actually learn to speak to a "live" technician

I hope someone here can give me some advice as to what may be the problem and what I can do to bring my laptop "back from the dead"...?

All responses will be very well appreciated and followed... so, more we're crazy please lol. Maybe one of you has experienced this problem yourself at some point, or maybe you have a suggestion as to what could be the cause of the problem... maybe someone could tell me just what the "Time-of-day clock" is and where it might be, to be honest I have no idea and has none of my friends whom I've asked...? ... N °

Quick intervention is required as the clock time needs re-winding

Thank you

Love today

Tina {aka alfiesgirl}

The stopped clock time the clock chip has no means.  You must be a repair shop that can weld in a new (figure on $150 or more) or replace the motherboard (or more with work on this double figure).

My computer's clock stops whenever I stopped or paused.  I thought it was the cmos battery and replaced it, but the problem started again.

The problem started shortly after I installed windows 7.  What maybe a software problem?

    Hi ppphhh,

My first suggestion would be to see if the time service restarting may solve the problem. Follow the path below to do the same.

Start> type Services.msc in the search bar > search for time service Windows in the window that opens > restart the operation of the service.

If restarting the service of time will not solve, try it at "stop" then restart your computer.  He should stop and try again. If it is not manually, navigate to the location and restart.

If that does not solve the problem, then you can look for any conflict of third-party application. Perform a clean boot and see if you can find any third-party application which is in conflict with the normal performance of the computer.

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows 7, follow these steps.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

If your issue is resolved, follow the how to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source.

In addition, refer to the section on how to restore your computer to a Normal startup mode

  • Dell Inspiron 1545 AC adapter problem

Okay, so I got my inspiron 1545 for 4 months now and have had a problem where the "battery is plugged in, not charging", I've read many places that, my adapter has probably went wrong and he can buy a new Dell store. Only... When I go to my local library, my battery charges. Which is really weird. I have computers and video game consoles and TV plugged in my house, and they all work very well. But my laptop won't charge. Is it just a strange coincidence? Or should I look to buy a new Dell adapter?

Don't waste your time on the replacement of the adapter. Computers Dell laptops have a problem with their motherboards. Dies the chip that recognizes the adapter and the adapter will be refused to be recognized by the device, causing the load to stop. Once in a blue moon, it will load, but what is? Dell refuses to acknowledge this problem, so I'm not buying more Dell products until they offer a reminder and replacing the defective motherboards for free, whether under warranty or not.

  • System clock stops working

The clock stopped working as soon as I close my sytem. When I restart is watch the time I closed the last.

However, on the Internet and upsating, it gives the current time.

I think your motherboard battery is dead. Replace the battery and set the duration of BIOS setting, hope this can solve your problem.

  • PC clock stops

Since setting up a new motherboard my pc clock stops whenever the pc is asleep or is cut.  I have reset the pc to sleep and I stop and retsart time service and it is then ok for the session.  Any ideas please?

Verify that the CMOS battery is actually activated. They often come with a thin plastic cover to stop it unloads during transit/storage before use. If the battery still has his film (or if the battery is duff), you will have this problem.

But I should also mention that if it's a new installation of the motherboard as a replacement for that you used all of the old hardware and disks, etc, have you installed new drivers of motherboard that should have come on a CD?

    Hi @BlackSheepFan,

From your description, I think it would be better to remove the software, clean up a bit of the computer, and then reinstall the software. Please complete all of the steps below in the order and let me know the results.

    1. Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the dialog box run, type %temp%
    2. Delete all files and folders in the temp folder. Choose Skip if all pop ups seem to say all files cannot be deleted
    3. The new software - uninstall the printer software Instructions
    4. Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the computer
    5. Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.

  • Replace the failed HARD drive in Inspiron 1545 without recovery media

My COMPUTER illiterate brother gave me his Dell Inspiron 1545 [Amin Note: Service Tag published by policy TOU] set after he dropped it on the floor.  I used a cart of Sata USB drive to copy successfully most of his records off the coast to another PC (some were corrupt), but I do not know how to go on installing the OS, etc. on the new HARD drive, I bought (a 120 GB Samsung SSD Series 840).

Dell Diagnostics (F12 at startup) gives me several errors of HARD drive for the Western Digital HDD (WD-WX70A8983788) 320, for example:

Error code 2000-0146 test short DST. The reader also failed to conduct confidence test correctly eg 0F00:1348 error Code. Msg:disk block 66381323: Drive aborted the command, update the firmware (even for block DISC 69322993). Read Test failed - error 0F00-0232 Code Msg DISK block 37006336: IRQ has not been defined at the time.

When you try to boot normally, Windows Vista complains that there are mistakes, tries to correct them and sometimes I can get it to boot on Windows Home screen how it freezes.

When I have already fixed a laptop, I had access to a recovery media / DVD and a key product of Windows OS, but this Dell does seem to be none of that - just a recovery partition on a hard drive now doubtful.

What are my options to install the new HARD drive and hand over its files on since I have no recovery media or a product key Windows OS?

    I must:

    (a) reduce the size of the partition on the dodgy HARD drive less than 120 GB and then clone the dodgy HDD on the new SSD, so try and difficulty of installing Windows using the Dell recovery tools? (He had used<120GB of="" the="" old="">

    (b) clone just the recovery Partitions, and then copy the relevant files on?

    (c) try to make a Vista DVD and somehow get the product key of Windows disable the suspicious HDD (it doesn't seem to be a Windows product key sticker on the laptop, the Toshiba & IBM unlike I had sitting next to me).

    (d) something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.  First thing I will once I have it get up and running is to create the recovery media that he did not!

Option one could be quite bad if the performance of the system was initially quite bad. It depends on what has been installed on the machine. I recommend a clean installation.

Follow my Guide from reinstalling Windows / a Clean Install of Windows Vista:

    http://philipyip.WordPress.com/Dell-community-forums/

This will guide you through the clean install using downloadable Digital River Media (Microsoft online partner). It will tell you where to download the installation files and how to do an aswell USB bootable as the rest of the installation.

For product activation, there are instructions on the use of the activation program to backup and restore (step 2 and 11 b). I saved product activation OEM Dell Dell Windows Vista to 7 reinstallation DVD. If you run a utility finder key on the old installation, you will get a corresponding product key. It is not would be in line with the key on your COA. The guide explains system locked preinstallation and activation more in detail. An alternative to the product activation is also possible; You can use the product key on the laptops COST 25-digit which must be placed under the battery in the Inspiron 1545 to protect it from deletion. This will require automated activation of phone to a Center (11th step) Microsoft product activation so I prefer activation backup and restore program.

I am from the United Kingdom and do not like the fact that the form of relocation brackets is for US customers only. The situation has worsened for Windows 8, Microsoft has not provided downloadable media. Please add your voice to this idea from IdeaStorm Windows 8 media IdeaStorm resettlement so that users in the United Kingdom or elsewhere outside the United States can get media to reinstall via an online application form or download link. Unfortunately IdeaStorm requires connection separate from the rest of the Dell Community.

  • Inspiron 1545 will not be turned on, seeing as a pulse mode 'sleep'

My Dell Inspiron 1545 has been sitting for a while, and when I went to plug it and try to use it, it will not turn on. All I got is a lightweight "forced" power as when it is in sleep.

I recently replaced the battery and the charger, because the original battery was shot and the shipper was in horrible shape. I also replaced the power Jack earlier because the pins inside were bent and the laptop has been no power.

I had used successfully the laptop for a while after the replacement of these parts, but now it won't turn. If I'm on battery, AC or both, it only flashes / impulses when I press the power button. When I pressed the power button, it stops.

What's not here? I checked and re-seated memory strips, also to test slot machines and nothing has changed.

    Hi CARCRAZY98,

    Thank you for the update.

Well, when you turn on the system, if you hear the rotation of the fan and HARD drive, turn it on, connect an external monitor and check if there are any which screen.

Reinstall the cmos battery and check when possible. Given that the system is powered from the adapter, at this stage, I do not suspect the adapter. Also, remove the memory and disconnect the HARD drive and check if the system turns on and beeps - indicating a lack of HDD / memory.

As stated in my previous post, if all else fails and the indications do not change, I suspect the motherboard.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Problem with Dell Inspiron 1545 integrated Webcam

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with a built-in webcam. It came with Vista but I upgraded to a Windows 7 64-bit. The webcam used to work at the beginning. I don't know why but one day it stopped working and never worked more. I looked everywhere on the internet means and tried a lot of ways, and it still does not work. Device Manager identifies as "Unknown device" and identifies it as a USB Bus controller. I tried to uninstall it and always allow to detect, but it detects as unknown device. I also tried to reinstall the driver, the vista one because it doesn't have a windows 7 one. What this did was uninstall the old and tried to install a new one (which is the same). But the thing is, it does not work. He'll try to install it and then a message saying "an error has occurred in the installation of the driver" or something like that and then it does not work. I ended up having to run the system restore to recover the pilot. I tried many ways and still does not work. Even the average USB cable. I have been using a USB mouse. I even plugged the USB cable in all my USB ports and it did not work. I tried to connect is not in what either too and it does not work either. I can't even ask Dell to help cause there is nothing to support that I can get. And my drivers are all up to date. Can someone help me solve this problem?

    Hi Kakikala,

    Thank you for posting.

At this point, I suggest you to contact Dell to see if the compatible device in Windows 7.

If this is the case, they must provide you with a driver that will correctly identify and install the unit.

You can also ask them if another device, like a USB joystick, needs a driver to be able to identify the material of the webcam and install it correctly.

  • Dell inspiron 1545 function keys do not show display

My computer Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop show more a display for my function keys for the level of volume, connection wi - fi on / off, lock shift power.  The volume on the system tray icon displays a red 'x' if I press F7.  If I press F8 - decrease the volume or the F9 - increase the volume, there is just no indication of any change in the icon and the volume didn't cange except if I click on the icon and open the sound mixer.  At that time by pressing F8 will reduce the volume, F9 will increase the volume.  I can also increase or decrease the volume with the cursor.  I rely on the sreen screen to let me know if I still lock shift on for example.  I did "run - msconfig" and found that the quick adjustment box was unchecked.  I checked the box.  No change.  I went in "Task manager" but did not "quickset.exe" in "process".  Can you help me?  And, Yes, my laptop was recently built.

Hi guys, I was looking around several forums, not just this one to see if there is a solution for the problem of screen dim / dark etc that seems to plague dell inspiron 1545, 1537,.  I've seen people change motherboards and say it is fixed and some simply go back the video cable to fix, but I now have 3 of them on my Workbench and all have the same problem.  I mounted nine cables, inverters, even a work supposedly motherboard without success.  I even borrowed a 1545 laptop work and tried the cable, the screen and the inverter to a broken just to isolate the problem and they do not work on it.  The real pain is that original work components did not work now either.  Now I have 2 customers machines and a friends machine all with Sun screens.

Anyone got the real answers to this question, is there Dell technicians out there that must have faced this problem?  Need for a final solution until I throw the most money to solve the problem.
