Inspiron E1505 - reads/Burns DVD but can't read or burn CDs

In the last two months, (shortly after my warranty expired, ARGHH!), my Sony DW-Q58A ceased to read or burn or even recognizing CDs all together. Is this a common problem? It is simple to fix? I'm not at all afraid to start opening that baby, not that it is more under warranty but it wouldn't hurt to have some guidance on what to do. not reading CD not during boot or the other, is not associated with windows.

32-bit to 64-bit is NOT an upgrade path.

It must be done with a clean installation using a Vista FULL 64-bit disk/license.

Buy a version of disk/license FULL Vista 64 bits of your local computer, or online store: amazon, newegg, etc.

Hello

Follow these steps to reinstall the Beats Audio interface.

Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp52501-53000/sp52658.exe

One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers. Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

When you are done, reboot the laptop and let Windows load completely. Open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation. When this has completed, restart the computer again.

• DVD-RW/CD-RW Combo does not read DVD but can play CD

I used to have Windows XP on my laptop. I then decided to do a fresh install of Vista. Since I've upgraded to Vista, I put a DVD, then it asks me to "Please insert the disc in drive E". I have the latest firmware and have obtained the Windows drivers.

I really need my DVD player so I can watch movies on a holiday. Any help appreciated

Hello!

The sound of it, looks like a hardware problem but on the other hand as you say that the problem has occurred after that you installed Vista. For this, there are very less reasons. but you can try the following, if it works.

1. go in Device Manager, click on the dvd/cd rom drives and do a right-click of your player, click on uninstall and then you restart. The reader will be installed again when you restart. get a disc cleaner for dvd lens and clean you drive with it.

If the first did not help

2. If you can do it yourself its good else take your laptop to a Mech and tell him to remove the drive and start the computer. then stop it and install the drive into the slot, tighten the screw and start your computer. This could help.

on the other

3. check if you insert a dvd does show all of the data at all? If another player gains a firend or ask Mech. install another drive and check it works.

• Cannot read the OS DVD, but can read the Diag CD sata disc?

Greetings,

Laptop is the famous brick of overheating creatively titled DV6416CA.

I had to format the new hard drive after the original hard drive fried. (HP says too bad with that in short).

It now sports a WD3200BVET which is sata 5400 320gigs. I had installed Windows 7 during about 6 months now.

It was great. Life was good. I was happy. My daughter, wife and mother-in-law all used to watch movies online.

Then they got a virus that has rendered useless map of wireless network and in the end, I was told by 2 different specialists to give up and reinstall. So I said OK. I'll reinstall with the same dvd that I used last time. But it was not to be.

Somehow, I can read the diag cd I have but when I insert a dvd of Vista (a real one) it will not read it. He tries, but giving up at the end I tried the DVD (the original one) and also one dvd of Windows 7 on 2 other workstation without problem.

Therefore, I can not install the OS from scratch on this laptop using the DVD player.

The BIOS is also sport all options, for example, the IDE compatibility or such.

Just the phone does not have a DVD OS...

Thanks for the help

Antoine

PS: with 3 generations of angry women, waiting for this I need all the help I can get! LOLz

Perhaps because it is the laser burnt out or defective DVD it reads cd but not dvd. Have you tried to boot from XP cd?

You could try a 4 GB USB Flash drive to create a W7 bootable Installer.

• Satellite P20: Device DVD Player reads only the DVD but cannot burn CD & DVD

Hello

I have a toshiba P20, and I'm having a lot of problems with it. One of them is my DVD UJ811. I don't really know what is happening, the drive was already replaced and a few weeks later, it was exactly like the front, and the service provider made me pay almost 70EUR for a budget of 400EUR rejected.

I would like to know what really should do, I can't read the CD and I can not burn CD/DVDs, I can just read DVDs, nothing else.

I have seen some forums on the net, too many people in the world has the same problem I have and I really need to know what is the best solution for me.
Thank you

Hello Rafael

I'm very surprised by your post it here because I've used Satellite P20-303 (a red) about two years. Laptop is now used by my brother and it works perfectly. I don't really know what problems you have, but I never noticed anything suspicious. Up to now I removed the cooling Grill on the bottom twice to clean the unit, and that's all. After that laptop computer cleanup runs a lot more quiet then before.

Back to ad: I have to be honest and say that I traded with TEAC DV - W22E DVD - rom. original drive was DVD - RW and TEAC DV-W22E DVD-RAM. My brother use it pretty extensively, but until now there is no problem at all.

I don't really know what the service is doing, but if possible replace the drive TEAC one. I can tell you with certainty, it works very well. Moreover, according to the description of your problem, I am sure that the drive is faulty.
You can replace one. It's very simple to do.

Hello!

You can burn discs using another program Nero for example or this only happens with alcohol?

In your case, I would try to remove the upper and lower filters in the Windows registry. Normally this does not solve the problems with the CD/DVD drive. Just follow the steps described in this workaround from Microsoft:

• CD DVD player: can not read data DVD discs that burned same machine

Laptop with Windows Vista cannot read data DVD discs that burned same machine. The discs work on another computer. My laptop will read CD disks, he did, and it will play DVD movies. What's wrong?

Hello

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD &)
Burn DVDs and CDs and read DVDs). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 parts to no function
while others are doing so correctly.

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner
could help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always
issue.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the outside edge
tolerances of the disks. They may be delivered, but it is usually cheaper to replace
the reader.

===========================================

This troubleshooting might not help if there are problems of alignment and wear it
is worth it.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check the cables

power and data of the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer
and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). Therefore, it is not unusual for 1 or 2 rooms with not so work that others do it properly.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some registry entries
that the troubleshooter does not, and those who "could" be the cause.

Check with your system manufacturer Maker and device for possible firmware updates and the good
Your player registry entries.

Here are the keys in my opinion, are those in question - for the reader of CD/DVD subkeys of course that he will be
other subkeys in these keys. Be sure to ask specific keys involved as well as the parameters.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

You can probably find more info here and maybe even registry settings correct for your CD/DVD drive
a person with the same model.

• can read DVD but not CD but I have previously tried many ways, but in vain

It's something that's happened recently, I can still burn DVDs but the CD is not recognized at all

Hi tommytommytom,

1 when was the last time it was working fine?

2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

3. what happens when you try to insert the CD in the drive? You receive an error message?

4. What is the number of brand and model of the DVD player on the computer?

5 have you tried the fixit tool provided in the previous post?

If the previous suggestions don't fix the issue, then I suggest that you install the updated drivers for the DVD player by visiting the site of manufacture of the disk and check if that helps.

• Satellite Pro 6100-> DVD playback is OK, but can not read CD

I have Toshiba Satellite pro 6100 and the reader of CD/DVD SD-C2502 on winxp sp2.
The drive did not read any CD/DVD at the outset.
After a DVD lens cleaner, it plays DVDs, but the Player cannot read any CD incl. music CD

The error is 'windows cannot read the disk. The disc is damaged or... ".

I "took off the CD/DVD drive and reconnected" and the pilot also seems to be OK.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Hello

This sound like a player cannot calibrate properly and that's why the drive cannot read the CD disks.
Especially the replacement drive is necessary and inevitable. :(

• Equium L20-198 - can only read DVD but no CD

My DVD-Rom/COM reader only reads CDs and DVDs. Can someone please tell me if I need a new drive or if it is a software problem?

If I need a new disk, can I use a generic and what would be the part number?

Thank you.

Hi mate,

Have you tried different CDs? Perhaps that some CDs are scratched and t can be read properly.

Also, I had a similar problem and the reason was that it was dust on the lens. I used a cloth to clean microfiber and after that, it was possible to reread my drive! :)

• Satellite A100 PSAA9A - can read DVD BUT not CD with Windows XP

I use a satellite A100 PSAA9A computer laptop and I started having trouble with the CD/DVD drive. It was working fine until yesterday when he decided not read no matter what CD I get the message asking me to insert a disc, when there is a CD in the drive. It still reads DVD good.
I don't know if he has anything to do with the download of the updates of Windows XP because the troubl seems to start after I did.
Is there somewhere in the creation for the player who controls this? Also when I run the troubleshooting test it always ignores the test of this drive.
I'd appreciate any help.
See you soon

Optical drives, DVDS, has some different faces to work with CD and DVD, but objective and optics are the same. He had arrived, when in one two heads become a dust or something else. I thing that you must visit the Service and your disk cleanup. But do not use a cleaning disc!
PS. Windows updates, as and OS, are not issues.
Make sure it's easy - attempt to start bootCD (not BootDVD) with anyone by pressing F12 at startup. If the running machine - it's Windows, if not - DVD player.
