Install an SSD on a HP Pavillion DV7

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-6c54ea and I'd like install a SSD as my main drive and keep my current 1 TB of HARD drive for storage.

I know from having to buy the extra cable and I can adapt it eaily but y at - it type of SSD, I would need to obtain or avoid? (personal preference not wise compatibility).

Once its easy installation would be also the primary SSD and move the windows on it my drive?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Liam

It should be, and even if it is it will work on a SATA-II system. SSD SATA-III are newer and better and faster so they work better, even on a SATA-II system.

    World of hell.

I want to install an SSD in my laptop (DV7-7199ef, B9A700EA, #ABF, 2CE22615J9). I want to boot on the ssd, but I want to keep the original as secondary drive of the UN hard disk (the first will be the ssd).

So what I have to install the ssd: power cable?  support adapter? SATA cable? other components?

    I couldn't find anything on http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=2CE22615J9 ?

You need the second hard disk enclosure and cable sold here:

    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=498

You put the SSD into the existing caddy and exchange the original hard drive in the second span with this device. If you need assistance with migration/reinstall software let us know.

I understand that you do not use the Recovery Manager. It is not an option to download from the HP driver for your computer page.  I suggest calling technical support of HP and to inquire a USB drive for HP Recovery option. • HP Pavillion DV7-6052ea: Wireless problem card

Hi, I'm moving my Wifi card of a 802.11ac card for 5 Ghz speed

    I have a Pavillion DV7-6052ea with i7-2630qm.

Laptop came with Broadcom 4313gn 801.11bgn card and looking at the manual here it says that the Intel Centrino Advanced - N 6230 is compatible with my laptop but when I install it the laptop does not start, it's just a black screen with a text box (not flashing) solid.

It give me any option to go into the BIOS and the fan is working, if I press the power button / stop, it stops immediately.

I also have a Centrino Advanced - N 6035 from another laptop, isn't on the list supported in the manual, when I install I get a message saying that the card is not supported.

Any ideas why the laptop does not start with the 6230?

Because it is not on the white list in the BIOS. The guide indicates a N-6230, but if track down you the part number in the manual it takes to another card. There is no option double band of 5 GHz laptop, that I do not say. Let alone a 802.11ac option.

  • Can I install an ssd and its system of MacBook Pro mid-2010 on a Mac Pro mid 2009

    Hello

My MacBook Pro just died yesterday (logic board) and I want to install the SSD with the system on a Mac Pro.

I just ordered a case to install the ssd drive in the machine.

I wonder if I can boot directly from this SSD or if I do the previous setting in the system.

Given that the Mac is able to run the latest version of Mac OS X, and you want to move the SSD for older Mac rather than new, it should work. I guess that saying you 'ordered a case to install the ssd drive in the machine' you mean connecting via USB rather than internally, which would be a great test.

If it works, I would say running the combo for OS update comes on the SSD once it is installed in the older Mac.

  • Slow startup after installing the SSD because gray screen

I just installed a Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010. I went to start and it starts very slowly due to a gray screen just sat there for about 30 seconds and then it shows the apple logo and it takes another 15 seconds to load. The gray screen did not appear before installing the SSD but the Apple logo did take longer to load with the HARD drive. I used SuperDuper to clone my my SSD HARD drive and installed the SSD and it starts normally. The only issue was the gray screen. I've heard that I need to go into system preferences and select Startup disk, then my boot drive, but there is no choice. Help, please.

  • Question about installing an SSD in my optical drive

I'm looking for pulling on my optical drive and put in an SSD, because I was told it can do my slow Mac run very fast. My thought was that rather than spend on my existing hard drive, I would take the optical disc and install my SSD it (I've seen a lot of videos shows how to do this)

My original hard drive offers 500 GB and also have a Windows partition, so I'm a little afraid to play with it, too... Adding an SSD will give me a feature from the application of some of the work for the SSD (such a start and some slower applications) to work only with a specific hard drive? And if I did start Mac on the SSD, should I uninstall and reinstall OS X on this new SSD?

Sorry, I'm really new to all this. Any help is appreciated!

My first step would certainly be in lieu of the HD with an SSD. Then assess where you are and what you think of your 'new' machine.

Description explains it, I thought to replace my current HARD drive to an SSD.

I did a lot research on this myself, but thought I would check here just wrap there are any falls known issues/pit with a ssd in z600 workstation installation, I will look at adding a 1 TB ssd.

    1. installation of the material? the 3.5 inch z600 caddy would not accommodate a SSD, HP sells racks that will fit the z600?

    2. compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD that are best suited for z600 workstations?

    3. how to install and set up? is it as simple as connect via a cable SATA SSD and installing the OS? The Bios settings?

    Any information would be appreciated,

    Griff

Installed a Samsung 500 GB SATA III Evo in my z600... and it works perfectly.

Installed last week and have been installing programs and saw the general use of it without any problem. I wanted to test properly before posting a reply. It would be possible that I have problems with it later, but I would of thought that if she had problems I would be this topic now.

My SSD reads to 282 MB/s and writes to 270 MB/s - write random shuffle (IOPS) (IOPS) 51612 47395.

Being a SATA II gen workstation his don't reach only the full potential of the SSD to 540 / 520 MB/s writing but reading what I read, you won't notice the difference even its so fast... and I accept CC suite, mozilla, (did not install 3dsmax yet) all boot in seconds compared to the minutes on the old HARD drive.

Just to note that does not use a HP recovery disk to reinstall the OS. I have used a .iso official windows 7 and booted from USB (although it has some things useful, I didn't HP bloatware) drivers installed perfectly smoothly. Windows serial on bottom of Tower

    1. installation of the material? the 3.5 inch z600 caddy would not accommodate a SSD, HP sells racks that will fit the z600?

"Via Scott comments, look for the version of"needs-tool"in the post above, mine cost £8.50 and takes every 5 seconds to fit the ssd for the z600. I would not buy the version of the tool-less sugguest... unless you have no hands and a lot of money. »

    2. compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD that are best suited for z600 workstations?

"Yes, they are HP approved detailed SSDs in, but the post above, I had no problem with the class of consumer SSDS, but you dice with what brand." The Samsung EVO 500 GB, no problem. You can use a SATA III ssd, but you can get questions as warned by HP as their firmware does not support certain types (so basically if it doesn't they don't help you) ".»

    3. how to install and set up? is it as simple as connect via a cable SATA SSD and installing the OS? The Bios settings?

"Make sure that your BIOS is set to RAID + AHCI (mine was already setup like that)." I used the samsung Wizard tool after installation and it will say that your PC is not set to AHCI, but I just ignore it. As long as ORGANIC and firmware are up-to-date, you'll be fine. Use a blindmate card to install the ssd (see above messages). Make sure you get the latest firmware on a USB before installing SSD, it should be the first thing to check after the installation of the SSD. You don't need to change cables SATA from II to III that the cables are retro-compatible... anyway have a SATA III in a z600 will limited you to speeds of SATA II (which compared to a normal HARD disk are ridiculously fast). Just plug in and install OS. It can be interesting to read about boring SSD, the magician of samsung suggest some things to do, but not all are necessary, either its life expectancy more performance... defintely deserves to be read to the top, if it's your first SSD as it was for me. »

Upgraded high hand the best I've done to my workstation and very simple to do. I'm glad that I waited for better support and cost down on the SSD before using.

You want to say a big thank you to Scott Harrison for his help on this. I nagged him much but really appreciated his advice! Congratulations to Scott and anyone else who posted help.

  • This win to install a SSD drive in a PowerBook G4?

    Hello

I wonder if installing an SSD in my PowerBook G4 17 "would make sense, either replace the drive of 80 GB original or being a carrier of replacement instead of the SuperDrive, which can be done.

I read somewhere, but that because of the PB G4 PATA connection an SSD would be significantly slowed down that it make much sense to install a.

Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks for all the opinions.

It probably will not affect performance much.  You may notice the startup time is faster.  It makes the quieter PowerBook, and it produces less heat, fans can turn on less often (what makes even more quiet).

I replaced the hard drive in my old PowerBook ("Pismo") with solid state storage.  First of all, I used a physically tiny SDXC (32 GB) card on an adapter, and which worked surprisingly well.  I had already used this same card SDXC (of Sony brand) with my 2011 Mac mini (in its high speed SD card), as a startup disk for replacement for testing purposes.  The adapter I used is like this

    http://www.Amazon.com/optimal-shop-secure-digital-adapter/DP/B00BANFDWG

I use it for about a year or two.  Then, I replaced it with a 128 GB mSATA on another adapter card

    http://www.Amazon.com/GP/product/B009BA8V4M

The mSATA (as well as the adapter) card is significantly faster when doing things that require focused disk access, as at the start.  It's logical, because an mSATA (unlike a SD card) card is designed to be a drive on the computer (no storage media).  The total cost was about $55, probably even cheaper now.  I bought the card mSATA (Samsung brand) on eBay.  It has been used and the seller had the highest number, so I thought they were 'draws' laptops have been recycled or upgraded storage higher.  128 GB is the maximum for my old PowerBook, so it was a good deal (about $40 at the time).

I have posted more information in another similar topic (including a review of product for the adapter mSATA), a few months ago...

Hi, quite new and mac OS lovers, bought one after windows kept crashing on me

I was going to install the SSD and then load my current drive.

Then install the el captain for the SSD by keeping the two separate drives.

Then start in the SSD and format the old drive and reinstall all my necessary applications

    What do you think guys?

    Thank you

    reinstall all my necessary applications

Not sure what you mean by the above. Aren't you going to keep the Applications folder on the SSD? If you reformat the drive of 1 GB, you will lose all your data. I hope that you have backups.

Other meanings, it should work. I would like to download El Capitan before beginning.

    Hello Paulo

As far as I know that some models are available with drive HARD and some with SSD these models with SSD have small SSD support. SSD is fixed by 4 screws in this medium.

I put t really know how to help you now. Maybe you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. I think they can check the part number of this door - or maybe order one for you.

  • can I install an SSD on an optical drive in a HP Envy Phoenix

I just bought a custom HP ENVY Phoenix Desktop - 810-350se CTO with a Raid 5 (3 x 2 TB) configuration, but I noticed and did some research it seems that it's better to have an SSD installed for faster computer access data, of course, I want to use for the operating system installed on it.  So I have two questions?

(1.) I can change the configuration so that I can add a SSD on an optical drive? (This will be the 4th disc). Since I already use 3 HARD drive on a Raid 5 configuration and there is no more space on the left, I guess I can only use an empty space of optical drive and install a SSD?

2.) is there a limitation on the number of readers and HARD disk can be installed on the motherboard?

My proposed solution is to keep the 3 HARD drive and install a 4th disk (SSD) on the optical drive and use it to the operating system (Windows 8.1).

    Recommendations or suggestions is appreciated.

    Thank you.

4 TB 7200 RPM SATA 6 G RAID Hard Drive

    Hello

Your PC is already using a bootloader of Windows 8 and if you load the SSD in UEFI mode, then you will add an another boot loader of Windows 8 for the menu eligible boot device.  This will lead to confusion.  I suggest that you avoid this situation by trying the following procedure:

    1. Don't forget to create the external HP recovery media
    2. Install the SSD on port 1 or 2
    3. Disable startup secure in the BIOS and set the legacy mode
    4. Start the Intel OPROM and rebuild the matrix RAID 5
    5. Boot into the BIOS and UEFI mode
    6. Start the external HP recovery media and load the SSD drive (SSD recommended size is 240 GB or more)
    7. Once you are currently running and then go to disk management and upward and format the matrix RAID like TPG

The above procedure may or may not work, but that's what I would first try.
