Install Windows 7 on a separate hard drive

Here's the short version. A computer of mine will not start because he has lost the Boot Manager. Also, it doesn't start from usb/cd or dvd climb initially to install the original disc will not work. He finds my other computer is an HP and DVD sata cable. I can connect my hard drive to my HP and it sees everything. As if it were an external hard drive. My question is: How can I reinstall or difficulty on the hard drive with nothing missing Boot Manager to my original OS HP? I have download EasyBCD but I really don't want to laugh with it to much for fear of screwing up the HP. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

BOOTMGR is missing, message or black screen with cursor flashing
This error message appears when the bootmgr file is damaged or missing, or the BCD (Boot Configuration data) is damaged or missing.

Follow the steps described in this article from Wiki:
http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/wiki/Windows_7-system/Bootmgr-is-missing-message-or-black-screen-with/73fef5b7-5a7f-4910-a2b0-7219e9ec1646

You can do on computers, but if you use your other computer after completing the fix with the exception of bootmgr, remove the drive and install it in the original computer.

  • Install Windows 7 on the new hard drive with USB operating system recovery?

I have an Alienware 2015 15 which does not come with a CD player. I install a new hard drive (SSD 2280 m2), so the question is how to install WIndows 7.

While Microsoft offers an OS IOS for WIndows 8 download that you can put on a USB (with dell, I think that it automatically pulls the product key of BONE off the coast of the motherboard?) this IOS download is not available for Windows 7.

So the question is the recovery USB OS offered by dell will allow me to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new hard drive in the laptop even USB from recovery of the BONES came with. My last resort is to buy a new copy of windows 7 and a USB external CD/DVD drive.

TLDR: OS Recovery USB offered by dell will install Windows 7 on a new hard drive.

The factory restore USB will work on another drive. I did this procedure with the media created from the latest version of Dell backup and restore on my Inspiron 13 7347 and demonstrated the creation of media and installation on a new SSD:

    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/Dell-backup-and-recovery/

Since you are using use Alienware Alienware Respawn. Alienware respawn is very similar to Dell backup and restore.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on the replacement hard drive

I got the replacement from Dell hard drive which he said would come with Windows 8 and pre-installed drivers. Well, I installed the hard drive and he said no. OS can be found. I didn't have a chance to make my own backup discs, but Dell sent a CD Windows 8 recovery media with the laptop and now with the replacement hard drive.

When you try to install Windows 8 on the new hard drive, I get to the part where it tells me to choose a partition to install Windows 8 on and none of them will not let me. There are 5 to choose from and I don't know what to do to get past this. The largest partition either 5A about 934 GB of space left out of 1 TB, but as I said I can't choose it or one of the other ones for the installation.

You just have to click on next, in any case, despite the message?  Otherwise:

Start on the DVD of Windows 8, instead of install now, click repair your computer, Advanced Options, invites ... when it opens, type the following:

    DiskPart
    Select disk 0
    clean

    Then, try to install.

The above will remove all the data partition and disk, allowing you to do a clean install on an empty drive (these scores are not required, and Windows will create its own partitions (two) he needs to install and run).

Windows 7 may not be the installation of a device from external storage such as a hard drive external or USB Thumb drive (with the exception of eSATA).

You must install Windows 7 on a storage attached internal device.

  • Can I install Windows 7 on an external hard drive and then put it back in the computer as a hard drive internal?

Here's the situation, I reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop when it all of a sudden to stop. Now he cannot start Windows and only shows the Startup Repair tool. IM thinking if I can get my hard drive and put it in a hard drive enclosure and install windows in it as a hard drive external. And after installation, I will put the normal back on my laptop as a hard drive. Will this work?

Furthermore, I can't boot any disk installation because the built-in DVD player does not work, also I can not change startup option because I can't access the BIOS, there the password and I do not know. Please someone help! :( Thank you!

As a general rule, Microsoft allows not 'officially' most versions of Windows (9 x--> 7) to boot from an external hard drive.  However, there could be an exception to this rule.  eSATA pregnant use signals to 'SATA' HDD on an "external" port

  • Install Windows 8 automatically formats the hard drive? If this isn't the case, I should format it FAT or NTFS drive before installing Win/8?

Install Windows 8 automatically formats the hard drive?  If this isn't the case, I should format it FAT or NTFS drive before installing Win/8?

No, this isn't format the hard drive, what's done is put your existing version of Windows in a folder called "windows.old", it indeed erases old files of version and folders, leaving free space on the existing partition "NTFS" (formerly ocupied by your previous version of windows) in which is installed Windows 8.

And "NTFS" is the only file system that supports Windows 8.

  • Need to install windows 7 Professional on second hard drive

Computer of my sister was in place and I began to suspect that the HDD went wrong.  I tried to do a reinstall on his computer and had no success.  I now took his hard drive of his computer and installed in mine as a second hard drive, like that I had a working computer and could be able to explore his.  I have been formatted for virgins out there and tries to use his professional disc of windows 7 to reinstall the operating system on the hard drive.  I have windows 7 home on my hard drive, when I insert the disc that I had heard that he was asking me what hard drive, I tried to install it to, and he has not tried to install it on my original hard drive and he said that I had to use a upgrade disk and not this one.

How to install on his hard drive, so I can then take up and put back in his computer and see if it works.  And also after that I get installed on the 2nd drive hard is there a way to try to boot from hard drive before that I have to remove to ensure it works well?
    Thanks for any help
    William

It's not going to work, but the startup information will be stored on your startup disk (one running Windows 7 Home Premium). If you did a dual boot on your system, then reinsert the disc in your computer of the sisters, she does not start. Now that you have properly formatted the drive, put it back into his computer and try the installation again.

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

    Hello

Bad audio is not an uncommon problem in Windows 7. Try this for your audio problem:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/how-do-i-stop-my-music-from-skipping-or-breaking-up-when-i-play-it .

Let me know if this fixes that issue for you.

The default installation directory, although you can change, all default Windows programs will be always need to reside in C:\Program Files and Program Files (x 86). You would be better to do a clean install with Windows and your programs to the new larger capacity disk and keeping the smaller disk to your audio and video files.

    Kind regards

P.S. I would increase the pagefile to 6144 (1.5 times the amount of RAM). Or you could try a 16 GB for the ReadyBoost flash drive. See the following article: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/using-windows-readyboost-to-increase-performance/ .

  • Trying to install XP Pro on a separate hard drive with Windows 7 on a different drive__

I am running Windows 7 on my C drive, and I want to install Windows XP Pro on another drive on the same computer. Can I do this? And if so how?

    Hi oldtech69,

It is possible to do. To do this, you will need to install XP on the other disk. It would probably break the installation of Windows 7. After installation of XP insert the Windows 7 disc and boot it. Under 'Install now', you will see repair. Select this option and perform a startup repair. After that you will be probably able to boot on XP installtion. To start the installation of XP, you need to change your BCD. This can be done manually or with third-party tools. Here is a link to another thread that references this tool.

Please take precautions as this is for advanced users.

    Hope this helps

  • Portege M400 - cannot install Windows XP on the new HARD drive

    Hello here is my problem,

I bought an older Portegre M400 E, without a HARD drive. So I buy a new Samsung 400 GB. I looked in the Bios (ACPI BIOS Version 3.40) and it is ok. He shows me the HARD drive with built in Assign LD - 0 status ONLINE, 400 GB size so it seems to be nice. Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0
So, I want to boot from the Windows XP CD, not recovering my own.

Windows open to the top and after a short period, the installation ends with the message that it is not any HARD drive. This I try sometimes :-( Hope someone can help me.
Do not forget that I didn't have any HARD disk with the dates of the laptop.

    Thank you Carsten
(Sorry my English is not so good Im from the Germany)

    Wilkommen!

    > Changed the matrix Raid, described in the manual, in condition to create 1Raid-0

I don't know much about your model, but I think that something wrong with the raid in the Bios settings. What other options are available in the Bios for the State of the hard drive? I found the RAID driver on the Toshiba driver page. It is possible, that you can integrate in with a program called nlite Windows installation disc or install Windows as in compatibility mode, and install the Raid driver. then

  • H8 HP desktop computer - 1285D:-how to re - install Windows 8 on my new hard drive

    Hello

I got hard drive without warning for the month and I finally decided to change the hard drive. I added the new drive on the PC and reformatted it.

I am currently using Windows 10 (update of Windows 8).

I have the recovery CD that I created using Windows 8.

My question is how to install windows 8 nine hard disk? I have to disconnect the old drive hard first and pop in the recovery CD?

    Thanks for the help

    Hello

Did you back up your data?

The best scenario is to use the official media of external recovery HP and bring your PC to a first day factory condition. Remove the default HD and plug the new HD on this port. Now boot to the top of the HP recovery media and following the instructions on the screen.

Go into the BIOS (F1 at startup), set the "compatible" SATA mode (NO AHCI), then press F10 to save and exit, and you should be all set.

  • H9-1187 install windows 7 on 3 TB hard drive

I am trying to reinstall windows 7 home 64 bit on a 3 TB hard drive, but it only allows me to install on a 2 TB hard drive.  The motherboard is able to use the 3 and 4 tb SATA hard drives for storage, but I can't find a way to install the OS on a 3 TB hard drive.  The motherboard seems to be able to UEFI.  I have the desktop h9-1187.

Never mind.  Finally figured out how to see if your pc uses BIOS or UEFI.  H9-1187 does not support UEFI.
