  I have a few looks to round in various forums and found no answer to everything.

  I have the Satellite A300-1GC and had (from last night) vista on it. As caused Vista
  a lot of problems with different programs, I decided to get rid of him.

  The problem is now--if I stick my XP installation CD it it bed "press any key to boot from CD".
  Do that and then nothing happens. The CD read head stops going back and forward
  but nothing happens at all. Not even the beginning of the blue installation screen.

  Any ideas where this comes from?

  I have tried various CD XP - neither work. The last one I had was with SP3 and build in February 2009 so quite recent.

  In your case the question has nothing to do with the SATA mode (AHCI mode or Compatible) but it looks like the CD/DVD drive cannot handle the Win XP disc

  my laptop (Satellite A300-1GC) worked very well for many years. But then last year he startet freeze randomly.

After about 10 minutes instead of the icons light was on and so I was able to restart the computer. Windows XP doesn't give me any error on the "blackout" reports the system. I restarted the game and play with him for about two hours without any problem! If you have something (hihihihi) understud my question is:

  Whay you do that I can do so that this accident will not happen more? Is there some test or newspaper or something similar I can read to see if there is any hardware/software problems? The v6.10.1.6000 of SoundMAX Integrated Digittal HD Audio Driver is installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but this doesn't seem to be the right driver. I can't find info to tell me what the correct driver can be either. The Toshiba site is a little sparse on Windows 7 drivers for this model and gives no indication that the driver may be is.

  Do you really think on installing Windows 7 over several years old Satellite Pro 6100?

  In my opinion, it won't work because it is too old and not fast enough. Newer operating system that is supported by Toshiba is Windows XP and this should be the best choice for good old classic.

  So just to be satisfied with Windows XP, it's a good choice for older computers! :)
