install Windows 7 update vs clean

I just rec would be my win 7 disc drive and hp update for my computer laptop dx7, my question is that I am aware of hp strongly recommends upgrade to windows 7 but I spent a lot of time (because I'm self-taught on computers, but decent understandings) remove the hp software to restore performance on the laptop and don't want the hp disc reinstall the soft ware I tried to Remove. The option will be available inside the disk hp will install to choose what to install? I would really like the option to be there. Can I do a clean install and easily chose what hp software install? I read that a clean install is the best plan. I really want the smart touch feature, because I think that other programs are just eating my resources?

Any thoughts muchly appreciated.

Thank you

It takes about 60 GB free on your C drive and no more than three already defined partitions on your hard drive to implement a dual boot.  If you go to-> disk management computer management, and then expand the screen. How many partitions you see on the hard disk (drive C)?

If both of the above are OK, then when you're in disk mangement you can reduce your 60 GB drive to create an installation space to do a clean install of W7.  Then you can start the installation process, select custom installation and install W7 in the open space that you just created.  After the installation has started twice, you will see a start menu containing two operating systems: Windows 7 and VISTA.  The default screen will start in W7 in 24 seconds unless you press the Enter key or arrow down to VISTA and press ENTER for VISTA.  You can change these default values later. Print these instructions so that you have so very practice.

Back up your data and be sure to have a set of HP recovery disks.

(My Automatic Updates usually work, but this time not to go.) Updates are obtained through IE8 browser, but I prefer FireFox for daily use.)

    Thank you! Success!

I used method 2, because I had already tried method 1 earlier, but the "fix it" went wrong. After reading the information from method 2, I opted to use my FireFox instead of IE8 browser, because I suspected that the process Internet Explorer that are included with the update was a large part of the cause of my problem. Among the options, I used Microsoft Download center to locate the update I needed and then through its validation and finally made the download and reboot. Voila!

Can you please explain why the process more automated via IE did not work for me? Why I resorted to the labour process more that I used? Can I expect this of all the other "critical" updates that I get on my machine Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005? Maybe your answers would also be interesting to others.

  • I installed windows 7 update disk 64 Edition family everything has worked until I installed the companion disc

installation is stuck configuration of the 67% .to windows updates anyone at - it had similar problems

    Hi oldcooter,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum

I have a few questions for a better understanding of the issue:

    (a) concerning the update? Updates are generally like KBXXXXX

    (b) you are able to get out of the window which provides the update?

    (c) are you able to cancel the update and start of the desktop

You'd have to try these methods and check that you fixed the issue:

    Method 1:

Reset Windows components using this link which contains fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

    Method 2:

Install the latest Windows Setup program, and then run Windows Update and check if that helps.

To follow Windows Installer more recent installation: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c&displaylang=en

    Method 3:

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the function returns. However, you may receive the error message, or you can experience the original behavior.

Follow the steps below to put your computer in a clean boot state:

Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.

    1. sign the computer by using an account with administrator rights.

    2. click on the Start button, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    3. on the general tab, click Selective startup , and then clear the Startup items load check box. (The box use the Boot file is not available.)

    4. on the Services tab, click to select the hide all Microsoft services check box, and then all disable.

Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    5. click on OK, then restarting.

Check the link to learn more about the clean boot below:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. click the Start button, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. on the general tab , click the Normal startup option, and then OK.

    3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart .

    Hope this information helped!

    Thanks and greetings
