Installation of a dual boot for XP on a Vista - XP installation computer forget the SATA drive after restart required #1

Hello

I'm trying to set up a dual-boot XPpro on my Vista machine.  I found the instructions detailed at various locations.  I prepared a score of 30G on my SATA drive and booted from my XPpro and XPpro (SP2) retail drives.  The score is quite small because I have only use for some applications.

I have the following problem and I wonder if anyone can help.  The disk and partition is by my SP2 disc, but it's ok that BONE is not used on any other machine.

I can choose the new partition as the location for the new installation of XP.

Installation gets to the point where the first reboot is required, then at startup, I'm stuck on the option 'press any key to boot from the CD-ROM.  I assume that the reader is not detected.  If I try to start from scratch, I get the warning that the new partition already has an operating system on it, but I can reformat and move forward, then arrive at the startup problem re.

There is no XP drivers for my Board, but I can not install them because they are on CD and the only option to load the specific drivers in the first part of install required has a diskette is in the drive, and of course I don't have a floppy drive.

I then use the Startup Repair in Vista I can't move to the stage where XP is installed in fact correctly.

Any help very welcome!

Paul

Hello

I made a disc of slipstream with nLite as suggested, my sata drivers included but still could not circumvent this problem.  Installation kept insisting that they had to come from A:

Rather than taking the box to bits I read from the link posted by Michael Murphy, once again and found the answer of Taydius on 250/1 posts.

http://www.syschat.com/dual-boot-Vista-XP-Vista-already-26-1946.html

Problem solved by installing EasyBCD in Vista, it points to the new partition with the inaccessible XP and reboot and selection, installation on board as usual.

Dual boot now works fine.

Thanks for the help!

I use a computer with 2 partitions on my hard drive.  The first one has vista 64 bit on it... I would install xp 32 bit on my 2nd partition to create a system dual boot, but everything I find says to install the oldest operating system first.  When I tried to install win xp to Windows vista, it wouldn't let me.  Then when I tried to boot from the xp disk, the installation blue screen came, but after loading drivers, he jumped a blue screen (the one which means that your computer has crashed) whenever I tried.  How to install xp now?

Vista is the 1 MS OS where you do not have to install the OS (XP) more older 1st in a dual-boot.

    Hello

    Very strange?  :|
How have you tried to install the graphics driver and what graphics driver you tried to install?
You must use the on the Toshiba page.

I recommend you to first download the graphics driver.
Then go to Device Manager and remove (uninstall) the graphics card in the system.
After restarting again the OS should automatically find the new device and ask start the installation.

In this case, you must follow the installation procedure and install the new driver downloaded.

If you try to insert two cards at the same time that would be normal given that the card reader is bound to a single channel of USB. It all depends on how your computer has been configured when it was built.

If you remove the first card and insert another card it is possible that you are not just right-click on the map in file Explorer and ejecting the card before you remove them.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-1140ea. want to make the dual boot for Linux also

    Hello

I just bought one of these laptops. Is really very nice. I am a software developer and want to ensure that the software I write also works under Linux.

For this reason, I want to make my system dual boot. That means I'll need to wipe the hard drive and install from scratch.

I am really disappointed that the laptop came not with Vista disk (s), and that the HP software I want here (assistant wireless and all that is installed to make Vista works with the card reader, lightscribe DVD, etc.) is not simply written on a separate disc.

So, can someone please tell me the best course of action once the hard drive is to get the Windows partition as it is now with Vista and HP utilities on? I want to get free or very low cost disks that I already paid for this software.

I really hope that it is not my option to create recovery discs. Therefore, your time! I tried their creation and halfway through the process of verification of DVD 1 drive (about an hour in the process), he said verification had not.

I'm looking for a simple, fast and cheap way to do.

    Thank you

    PUK.

    You are welcome.

An alternative or a safety net in case where everything goes as planned. You have a C:\SwSetup folder that contains all your driver/app installation programs. Copy on dvd before making any changes. Use your Dell drive to install Vista, using the license key of the laptop on background to activate. Use your dvd with applications/drivers to complete.

  • Windows XP - Dual Boot for Satellite U300-134

Hello. I have read other responses to this problem of the addition of Windows XP (as a dual boot) but it still doesn't work. My laptop (I bought a few days ago) comes with Vista, and I bought Windows XP Home Edition - OEM. I got the intel matrix storage manager on a floppy USB drive, but now it gives a message "the txtsetup.oem file is not found." I have XP because it turns out that my work WHAT VPN does not work under Vista (I found that out AFTER I bought the computer unfortunately).

Can you please tell me what I should do next to get this working? And any other surprises I might encounter? I looked around the internet but cannot find the answers to this. I tried nlite, but have not managed to get this working but either.

    Thank you.
    Ian

    Hello

There are different reasons why you can not install Win XO on the U300.

First use the right Manager, Intel Matrix Storage Manager?
Laptop you seems to support the Intel GM965 + Intel ICH8M chipset!

    Please check this thread!
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=26040

The user Markus77 has listed the details!

Also please don't format the HARD drive or create any installation AFTER the partitions of the Intel Matrix Storage manager. This would remove the driver already installed.

  • Dual-boot for DOS and Windows 7.

I use W7 Home Edition. 2G Ram. 500G hard drive. (tons of room left)

I just correctly partitioned the hard drive and formatted the small partition in FAT32 so I can use BACK 6.21 as operating system.

I'm trying to re - create the implementation that I had when I was on XP. Otherwise said, when the machine is booting, a screen appears that gave me the choice of either running in Windows XP or in the BACK. So far i cant even install BACK the machine to the three diskettes BACK 6.21 lights. The BIOS indicates the 3 1/2 "floppy drive is enabled.  The boot sequence has been defined for the floppy drive be the first start and the (No. 1, startup disk) disk is in the drive. Windows 7 boots up just as usual and totally ignores the BACK installation disc. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or that approach I should take. ?

p.s. I have a spare hard drive I use exclusively for BACK if only I could get BACK installed on it and knew what to do at the BIOS level.

Sometimes simple solutions are the best :) glad to know what you need to do this.

Don't forget that starts change according to what operating system drive letters, you can even add a disc of Windows 8 and start to learn that. One of the main things to do is label the disks according to their function as this does not change even when the letters do.

Please indicate the best answer than the answer.

    Hello

have you heard of 'Vistaboot'-> http://www.vistabootpro.org/

A program that allows you to change the bootoptions, so if you want to change the boot settings, then try this program.

Otherwise, you can also consult the "UBCD4Win" program which is a live cd of windows xp with many tools, you may find something to change the Boot Manager.

  • Satellite Pro P200 - 17 c: Win XP won't load - installation of the SATA driver

    Hello

I have a satellite pro p200 - 17 c I've had good years, allways worked without any problem.

Last week when I booted the laptop, windows won't load and I find myself safe mode selection screen. No options whatsoever me to windows loading, I tried F8 and still nothing.

I tried the restore cd that reimagee the drive but I get the same thing, I tried a new hard drive, once again the same.

But if I try to load windows from an OEM to install that software does not because it is a sata drive and there is no floppy drive. I have an external floppy drive I use, but it is not known now.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hello

Go to BIOS and set it to default settings.

In this case the SATA mode must be on AHCI. In this case the SATA drivers are required to install the Windows operating system. But as much as I know that Windows 7 already contains the SATA drivers if usually you don t had to add SATA drivers while OS installation the installation program.

However, here is a nice HowTo document that helps you add SATA drivers for Win XP installation disc.
