Hi Betty48228,
Here's how to solve your problem:
(1) uninstall all versions of Java.
(2) the uninstall will probably fail. If so, get Revo Uninstaller free http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.htmland uninstall Java in advanced mode (integrated Java uninstaller runs, failure and then Revo will delete everthing manually). You will need to restart your PC.

Hi Carolinelightfoot,
This error message occurs when the system could not read and write data to the registry file. The error indicates a problem with the registry.
Method 1:
You can run a Checkdisk to see if there are drive errors that can cause this problem.
Check your hard drive for errors
Note: When you run the disk check, there is a chance of losing the data that you can take a backup of important data before you run checkdisk.
Method 2:
You can also try to boot from a full version of Windows Vista installation disc and try to perform a restore of the system to WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment)
What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?
Hope this information is useful.

8 SDK-installation of Java under Yosemite 10.10.2 (Mac), the version of the SDK for Java 7 left, also on my system. Why?
Unlike the JRE, JDK is installed so that multiple versions can be installed on a system at the same time. If you want to remove a JDK, instructions can be found here: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/technotes/guides/install/mac_jdk.html#A1096903

Installation of Java 1324 error - invalid character
It's SO frustrating. Every time I try to install Java, I always get the error message: "Error 1324. The AVG Plugins path contains an invalid character. »
I remember a folder named 'AVG Plugins' but it is eliminated for some time now and it was located on an external hard drive. I have no idea why he decided to blame for its failure to install on a particular file. Well, I'm sure that the folder has had a registered symbol (®) in its folder I can see where its getting the part "invalid character" of... Before it was deleted, the Plugins of AVG file contained Java installation files, but I deleted them eventually if I could reinstall it on my hard drive. I remember at one point, Java was working fine once again, but after some problems with MP3 Rocket (which depends on Java), I deleted Java and once again tried to reinstall... Which doesn't of course. At first I thought that I would just change the destination folder but I tried to save now on many places, but I always get the same exact error message, with the same exact file mentioned (AVG plugins). I tried to install Java the way normal and in one end offline installation, I get finally to the same error message. Can someone help me please?
Here is part of an old MSINFO report (at the time when Java was installed in AVG Plugins). You can see that Java appears several times in the folder "Plugins AVG", which may have something to do with this current error message... Also, some Java files see the place in my control panel, but I'm unable to uninstall the. Let me know if this is something that I need to study in detail in order to solve this problem...

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.Method 2:

Error message: cannot access Windows Installer during the installation of Java SDK
Original title: How To Install Windows Installer?
OK, so I came to my laptop to do a writing in Word. Later, I tried to install the Java Development Kit, but he said something, of not being able to access Windows Installer. I ignored it and went to download a registry cleaner program to try to solve, but he also said "cannot access Windows Installer". Undertook research to install across the entire hard drive and the Windows registry and I found nothing. Not even the key MSIServer was there. I went to the Services and it was not there either. I opened my journal program, and he said that Microsoft Windows Installer has been deleted from the hard drive. The newspaper program that I use is open source and theres no script that writes, deletes, or replaces all files! So all I can do now is to install again, so I went to the Microsoft Download page: Windows Installer but when I tried to download mine)
Windows6.0 - KB942288-v2 - x 86 .msu) he said first of all, "the search for updates...". "and then"update does not apply to your system. Any help would be appreciated!System Specs:-Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit-Inter Core 2 Duo Processor-3 GB RAM-220 GB hard drive-105 GB free HDD-Dell Inspiron 1525 laptopOK people! I found the answer myself. The only thing I did was to do a system restore to the nearest date when it started to happen and after a few minutes I got the key MSIServer and everything started working again! YAY!

upgrade to 8.1 windows and installation of Java
I originally had windows 8.1 set to level upwards of 8. My computer was working fine. I apply for a job, who needed me to do a speed test and a test on my computer. The necessary speed test that I install Java. I installed Java and ended up getting all sorts of viruses on my computer where I couldn't accomplish anything without all the pop up and settle on my computer from search engines. I decided to clean the clean computer to reinstall windows 8 to get rid of the virus. The virus now seems to have even a few appearance on my computer to me because the computer still seems does not as it did when I came to the computer. Nothing is the same, so I have to relearn all over the computer. The computer is a year old. I have installed all windows updates. I want to upgrade to 8.1 windows and install Java. When I go to the store windows install windows 8.1, I get the message that I can't install windows 8.1 up to what windows install updates. Then he said: go to settings and check the upgrades of the installation window. I installed all windows updates and rebooted the computer several times. The computer, after installing the upgrades and restart, still says the same thing every time, updates of windows install. To install Java, the computer says to upgrade to windows 8.1. So I'm stuck. I can't stand those who put viruses on the internet. Why, just to hurt people and make them spend more money to buy again and again, virus protection program because they continue to flock to the top with new viruses every day. Thank you for your help.
See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/why-can-t-find-update-store
your PC needs Windows updates, 2871389 KB and KB 2917499, until Windows 8.1 is available in the store.
Are they both installed?
The Windows store may need refreshing:
To refresh the content in the store
Enter in the right edge of the screen and then click on search.
(If you use a mouse, point to the upper right of the screen, move the pointer of the mouse down and then click Find.)Enter the term in the search box and then press or click Run.
Wsreset.exe enter the command run and then press or click OK.
Restart your PC.
On the start screen, tap or click on store and check if Windows 8.1 now appears on the store home screen.

8 64-bit Windows: Java 7 >; u51 failed installation (including Java 8)
Hello
I'm fighting for several months trying to install any version of Java > 7u51. Until Java 8u25 (probably u20), installation is almost complete, but in the end, a message says "Setup error" no reason specified and Java is removed (before recognize the error, Java is in the list of installed programs). This produces both for 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Since Java 8u25 (probably less than 20 years but not tried), the message is 'installation error 1603' without any further reason. Otherwise, the behavior is the same.
I dug in almost all the suggestions, I found on the net, tried most of them including removing a patch from Windows Update in August, disable bitlocker (enabled on my laptop), running Microsoft Fixit utility and the suggestion can not install JRE 8u20. Nothing works and I'm stuck with the u51. In each attempt, I removed all the JRE and the JDK installed my system before attempting to install a new version, removed the left directories (facilities failures leave the directory \Programs or \Programs x 86).
I also found https://www.java.com/fr/download/help/error_1603.xml, which suggests that it was kown issues but all still explained, without any date (I don't know if it's old or new) and suggesting that there is a work around in preparation... Clarification would be welcome!
Thanks in advance for any help.
Michel
FYI, problem fixed in Java 8 U31. No need to remove the old versions before, it will be managed properly by U31 Installer.

Looks like you are using generic Jar Installer... so in this case please run the Setup program by using option - Xmx1024m:
Example:
