Installation of re: ASM

Hello world!!!

I have a question about the migration of data from windows server 2003 to 2008.

both are single-instance databases...

I plan to install the first unique database software and then configure the ASM using DBCA. (perfect me if I'm wrong)

My question is what do I have to install the cluster or grid before you configure the ASM?

and then more later after setting up ASM how to migrate data from 2003 to 2008 ASM (I mean where to place files of data in 2008)

Thanks in advance...

Hello

Only install the oracle software, then grid with asm, and then migrate the data from the other server, and then start the database...

Here, I will not install the new database. >

Install only the oracle RDBMS software, install the grid and create the asm instance, create the database using ASM starts, once this is done, export the application (using expdp) from the source database schemas, and then import it into the new db

    Hi all

I tried to solve the problem on our server of CARS of single node of development for a few weeks now (with the participation of MOS). That it took so long to get anywhere, the decision was taken completely uninstall everything and start from scratch.

As I build the server, I'm not aware of the RAC and ASM installation procedure. I need basically a blank slate - I can't manually delete the directories Oracle will help me this time due to ASM, ocr and voting disks and my colleague has mentioned something about the disks formatted in ocfs.

  • ASM Configuration prior to installation of Network Infrastructure

    Hello

I want to install a network infrastructure for a stand-alone server 12 c on a virtual machine, it is a first installation, no front installed Oracle software.

My problem is on the third screen of the Installer (create the ASM disk group), I can't view the ASM disks and the preinstallation process is not clear to me.

I defined the systems files/U02, /u03, /u04 and /u05 with the oradata and recovery_area directories (oracle: oinstall) for each /u0 * and I want to use them with the DSO.

I installed the oracleasm-support and oracleasmlib packages, I executed oracleasm configure with parameters of dba (Group) and oracle (user).

Question 1: I need to run init oracleasm (with default settings) to create the/dev/oracleasm before launching the installer of the grid?

Question 2: I run oracleasm createdisk before launching the installer of the grid?

    Question 3: What is the proper syntax for the parameter createdisk command 2nd (/ u02, / dev/map/VG_ORA-lv_u02, / u02/oradata,...)?

    Thank you

    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,.

There is a lot of confusion here.

ASM is just another Manager file system offering you a more simple and flexible LUN management. Basically, you choose to transfer your database in the file system (/ u01, / U02, oradata, recovery_area) OR if you choose to use the DSO. If you choose to use the DSO, you must create the ASM diskgroup before installing your database. As you mentioned as part of the installation you need to 'discover' the ASM disks and create the first disk group where the DSO Server settings file is kept.

To do this you have need of screening to the ASM one or more LUNS that are owner by user oracle. Lets assume you want to create two groups of DATA and FRA disks and make your databsae to use. If you use a virtual machine, you need to create more than two disks. Once you do that you have to idetify them, they will be discovered under/dev/sdX. On the same, you must create a partition to fill the entire disc (fdisk/dev/sdX, n for new, p for primary school, 1 to the first disk, and then you press ENTER twice, finally w for write). Finally, you need to make the new owner devides/dev/sdX1 by oracle (oracle: oinstall/dev/sdX1 chown).

At this point, you should go back to the installer and change the string of disc asm/dev/SD * 1, this will make ASM read all the first partition of all the/dev/disks in sd. Then, you select the disks that you want to use for the default disk group. This can be repeated for the rest of the disk group you want to create using asmca (asm Setup Wizard) or simply using SQL command.

oracleasm is the ASMLib that was used as a layer of abstraction to make sure that the device files will always have the correct permissions. Nowadays, making using udev as follows:

    Cat > /etc/udev/rules.d/99-oracle-asm.rules

SUBSYSTEM is 'block', KERNEL is "sdf1", NAME = "asm_data01_disk1", OWNER: 'oracle', GROUP =: = 'dba', MODE: = "660".

When you start this matches the device to/dev/sdf1 file and create an other device file under/dev/asm_data01_disk1 with permissions oracle: dba

Hope this helps, but it's just too much information.

    Kind regards

  • ASM with two SAN.

We are in a phase of re-architecture of our databases and all recently, we had the 4th SAN blip since a SAN has existed in our shop.

We are contemplating having two different SEM (maybe even from different vendors) to remove the single point of failure. Yes, our SAN was sold as a' double' and could never break SAN. BUT still, it shares the same firmware that of course after a firmware upgrade blew his brain when he was trying a failure more leaving us with a 'brown' failure (hum down half of the systems, a quarter in a State of funny and a quarter). 4 outages, 3 different brands of SAN.

I read some stuff on ASM but am not finding a clear answer, I can mirror all data flows to our Oracle for two different SAN databases so that doesn't break 1 SAN, SAN 2 takes over without any loss of service? Or would still need some Dataguard or something to make it work?

Thanks for any answers in advance.

    Paul.

Yes you can do it with the installation of the ASM diskgroup as normal dismissal. Explain, you create two failgroups has a single call and another call B. In A failgroup you would put all the SAN disk/LUN has and in failgroup B you would put all the disk/LUN SAN B.

We had the same problem with a SAN failure we have converted our group of ASM disks in normal redundancy of questions the firm failure.

If you send me your email, I can send you a document I created during our tests, so that you can get more understand the possible configuration.

  • Question of the ASM

    Hello

I'll put up a 11.2.0.3 new install and I have a problem in my hands a little bit.

While doing the installation, I created the asm on a partition disk in:
    oracleasm createdisk DATA /dev/sdb2
Now, after rebooting, it may be the case when my score is not identified as/dev/sdb2 more instance cannot find the disc, so I need to tag it with something like
    e2label <partition> <labelname>
to ensure consistent names after a reboot and my instance ASM will not fail

My question is, can I I "remap" the ASM/dev/sdb2 < labelname > disc without having to recreate all over again? If so, how?

    Thank you

just now, I am from sracth, comes to complete installation of oel6 and create the partitions with fdisk on my raid1 + 0
one that I have already formatted with ext3 and im moving the installers to the server to start

Any guide you know I can't go through?

    Have not yet installed oracleasm.

The next steps so far are:
-Once all the installation on the server programs I'm good to go with oracleasm
--> Create disc on an unformatted partition/dev/sdb2
    --> install grid
    --> create diskgroup
    --> install 11 GR 2
    --> instance to create

DO NOT use oracleasm - as I have said, it is expected to be close to retirement. If you don't want to be related to it.

Make sure that the device has the appropriate permissions before you start.
In the installation program, select ASM for OCR. in the lower right corner to select CHANGE DISKSTRING and configured to point to/dev/sd * and he sees only one with the correct permissions. It will ask you the name of diskgroup, and you select the sdb2 with REDUNDANCY EXTERNAL device. It will automatically load the initial configuration. Watch the udev.config to find out how to set permissions on startup

I don't usually promote other websites, but this looks like a good start on how to correctly configure udev...

  • Installing Oracle RAC: Unix, Windows ASM nodes

I have a question about the Oracle RAC configuration. I never did no prior installation RAC or ASM. Maybe a stupid question to some of you.

Is it possible to install Oracle RAC with following options?

2 node RAC with Sun Solaris
Shared storage using ASM in Windows server

Any additional information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

In very simple terms, when using ASM, database server process read the CRUDE device and process DBWR write devices ROUGH containing tablespace information. With ASM, these processes simply ask ASM 'where the disk read/write. Therefore, ASM provides simply a "table of contents". (It is much more than that, but this seems to be a good way to start the discussion.)

ASM MUST run on the same computer as the database instance that is to use it.

In your scenario, the Windows computer may be Server iSCSI providing raw devices to Solaris machines. These devices would then be managed by ASM and reading/praav1s directly by database processes.

  • Clarification of grid Plug-and-Play (GPnP)

Or is it more Dynamics Management capacity of ?
What role the negotiators, alias profile.xml profile file?

    Thank you.
    Best regards.
    Arturo

    Hello, Arturo.

Negotiators and GNS are independent of each other

From 11 GR 2 onwards, files with right to vote can be hosted on ASM. And the upcoming ASM to cssd demon. And for the cssd start the cluster needs to access files with right to vote.

These voting files location information is stored in the profile of negotiators (grid Plug n Play) file.

GNS, is for the resolution of the cluster name. For customers outside the cluster to find the virtual servers in the cluster, we provide a Naming Service (GNS) grid. It works with any level superior DNS to provide names can be resolved to external customers. DHCP provides dynamic configuration of the IP address of hosts, but does not provide a good way to produce names which are useful to external clients. Accordingly, it has been rare in the server complex. In Oracle 11g release 2 Clusterware (11.2), this problem is solved by providing clusterwares own service name in the cluster and this connection resolution DNS that is visible to customers.

    ORACLE_HOME = / opt/db/network/admin

Listener must be run to ASM_HOME always whatever versions.   So instead to create several headphones, try running with a listener of ASM_HOME & create a symbolic link to your ASM_HOME of your ORACLE_HOME as follows,

    ln-s /opt/asm/network/admin/listener.ora /opt/db/network/admin/listener.ora

    ln-s /opt/asm/network/admin/tnsnames.ora /opt/db/network/admin/tnsnames.ora

  • Oracle DBA jobs

    Hi all

Please don't mind my question if I violated the purpose of the forum and if yes, then I am truly sorry.

I work since nearly 3.4 years in Oracle Database Administration. I mainly worked on Dev-Test platforms where we keep no interruption of service. I don't have the hands on the CARS or a lot of knowledge. I worked on 10g, 11g.
I know that the concepts and methods of implementation of data keep (Eve), I worked on RMAN (duplication and incremental backup, complete/incomplete recovery), expdp/impdp and exp/imp, small amount of (SQL/Shell), database server management scripts (for the most part have exp on Linux), Installation of RDBMS/ASM, Databases(manually/DBCA), Security(privs, roles, auditing), Tablespace and other management staff of logical structure , HOT backup, cold backup (and restore from it), database upgradation, patch (PSU, a one-off, attach/detach from stocks), tracing, SQL Loader, ensure monitoring and creation, database monitoring and maintenance, segment management and defragmentation, maintenance of database object, Configuration of OEM etc., manipulation of the different types of Oracle, including critical errors errors like 600,7445 etc... Read and extract the AWR/ASH...

Can I get a job outside of my current company? As I don't see a lot of growth there. Not even happen to have exposure to other platforms... Most businesses want personal CARS.

Please suggest and help me (if possible)... I am really in tension on what will be there in my future because here I will never get to work on the CARS and the architecture of high availability...
This is the reason why now I think spend my business for better technological growth...
Should what I know in this phase of my career. pls suggest... I am from INDIA

    -Looks
    DBA struggling

If you get another job is a completely local issue. Ask a local recruiter how the job market is for the DBA. In my region (the United States), it seems that there are a decent amount of demand for the DBAs, but you could work in a local economy that is stagnant.

Chances are, in 2013, that any new DBA job will involve some element of redundancy of data.

In a few years, I suspect that most of the places will be CARS or Exadata systems for their critical databases. It will probably be a major breakdown before most companies will spend the money for clustered systems, but eventually, they will be included like that. Same Oracle Database Machine is a RAC configuration if you think about it - and that's what they're trying to plant smaller customers.

I remember about 10 years ago CARS was rare (I remember installing RAC 9.2.0.1 for a customer - boy, which was DIFFICULT). 'All' that you must do to be a DBA then, was to understand things from single instance.

Five years later, most DBA needs to know about RAC/ASM/data Gurd if they wanted to be Production DBA - they had to understand specific, cluster, ASM and Data Guard stuff.

I can see that in a few years, DBAs must be competent in Exadata or similar - so they will need to understand specific, cluster, ASM, Data Guard AND Exadata stuff (networking, storage cells, etc.).

My point is that the DBA role changing faster than any tech specialty. Fortunately, Oracle makes things easier to administer the technologies we have to master to become more complex: I can testify how difficult 9.2.0.1 was put in place for CARS - management of a system of 11.2 is so MUCH more enjoyable!

Unless you work in a place that have no plan to upgrade their databases (due to legacy systems) and to grow as a business, then chances are that you will be finally exposed to what you are looking for. Of course, if you work in a place like this, then we could suggest you better find somewhere else to work. Stand still must be turned towards the back, etc...

Good luck. It is good to be ambitious, but don't forget that a DBA role is a this experience absolutely request - if you have 3 years to be a Production DBA and having to call this in the middle of the night, you probably better experience than someone who spent 6 years as a development DBA (IMO).

I already tried to reconfigure Oracleasm (oracleasm configure - i) but no luck.

I would be really grateful for the help here as its been a few days now and want to complete the installation as soon as possible

  • Installation of Oracle 11.2 g ASM on Oracle Linux 6.5

I need to install Oracle 11.2 g ASM on Oracle Linux 6.5 of the system.

1 - What is the difference between 11.2 billion to Oracle and Oracle 11.2 g ASM?

2 - I installed Oracle 11.2 g on Oracle Linux in the past, install Oracle ASM different?

3 can provide me with instructions on how to install Oracle 11.2 g ASM on Oracle Linux 6.5 of the system?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

1 - What is the difference between 11.2 billion to Oracle and Oracle 11.2 g ASM?

ASM is for managing the storage for the database.  Otherwise, you would create the database on the file systems.  ASM is installed as part of an installation of the Network Infrastructure (even for non-grouped, no CARS, a single node environment)

2 - I installed Oracle 11.2 g on Oracle Linux in the past, install Oracle ASM different?

You should make the installation of the DSO and the config as part of the installation of the grid Infrastructure.

3 can provide me with instructions on how to install Oracle 11.2 g ASM on Oracle Linux 6.5 of the system?

On Linux 5, no 6.   See the documentation for the Installation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/nav/portal_11.htm
