Installation of software on another drive than C:\. Who is responsible?

I use Windows for 20 years now I have windows 7. This is the Frist time I saw it. Basically, you download the software. In this case Wizard101. As long as I have the installers program because they always ask who drive you want to install on. This program automatically installs on C:\. When I email KingsIsle Entertainment, who did Wizard101.  When I ask them about why I can't install on another hard drive.

Here is the Message of Kingslsle entertainment sent me.

If you have Windows 7 or Vista, due to the restrictions of the operating system, you will not be able to install Wizard101 to another drive. With otherWindows XP, you can choose where to settle by clicking the Customize button install at the bottom of the first page of the installer. If you have any questions about this, let me know.

When you look at wizard101 custormer Support faq is what he says.

Topic name Can I install Wizard101 on another drive?

Question I want to download Wizard101 somewhere other than Program Files on my C drive.  Can I do this?

Response If you are a user of Windows XP should not be a problem.  Once you open the installation program will ask you with an option to change the folder Desitantion.  To do this, simply press on browse and then select the folder that you want to install Wizard101 to.

If you are a Windows Vista user, you are not able to change where Wizard101 is installed on your machine.  Vista will by default use the game to download on your C drive.

Now, I ask a Local technician on the same issue.  Told me that. "Where the software installs is determined by the installer, and how it works is determined by the person or persons who wrote it." Has given suggestions on how to change the registry database and others and if this dose does not recommend He you take this issue with software programmers.  Who is KingsIsle Entertainment.

It would not be a major problem if I just have a Normal hard drive.  But as many new users of the computer, they SSDS for the boot disks and they don't have a lot of space because of the cost of the SSD.  Windows and a few other programs, as well as my secondary hard drive is where ranger games programs and software.  I don't want no stupid answers.  As well you can remove the SSD of some programs.  Who dose not an answer to my question.

Here's my Question.  Who is responsible for this problem?  Entertainment Microsoft or Kingslsle and who do I go to fix this and please if I can I hope to have a Tech Mircrosoft meet this.  If I can get the truth of the facts.

Hello Sithchean,

It is the manufacturer of the software whether if they offer a command prompt to change the default location where to put their software.

However, you can make a change in the registry which will allow the programs to install on another drive.

Go to start button, in the start search box type regedit. Click OK.

NOTE: Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk.

[Highlight: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion] there is a string named ProgramFilesDir, by default the C:\ProgramFiles value. You can change the value of D:\ProgramFiles, and now any installed program will go to the new location of D:\ProgramFiles.

If please reply back and let us know if this helps with your question.

Sincerely,

Win 8, subscribed. Tried to change the installation path to D:\. Using C:\ for Windows on SSD. Summer pay monthly to CC for a year, and can not use it!

I can't install the suite all CC on an SSD of 256. According to this forum, I'm supposed to download "manual installation" versions that are tests? Really? Is this the only way?

In this case, I might as well cancel my subscription and start a legal process requesting a refund.

Thanks for the help, William! It worked. Thereafter.

I changed the two paths, for applications and files to D:\, but CC still installed on C:\ drive.

Thought I'd give a second trial, however, because it has worked for you. Uninstalled, downloaded the CC Manager and saved on my D:\. Paths changed to D:\Adobe and I tried install Photoshop and installed in the same folder as the Manager (D:\Downloads). Thus, the good player, but the wrong file.

It gave me an idea. Everything uninstalled again, downloaded the Manager D:\Adobe and Heureka! Photoshop is now installed there too. Hope that other programs/applications will do the same.

But I must say that I have never known anything like this with any other software. Change the installation path is really a function of base... And I still have to find on what drive to work using Photoshop.

  • How much space is required on C:\ with installation CC Illustrator on another drive?

I have creative cloud > [Settings] > Preferences Apps > Installation location set to a folder on a standard hard drive on my system which has Oceans of space to this topic.  All my creative Cloud apps have installed very well about it except for the Illustrator CC.  Whenever I try to install Illustrator CC I get an error message that says:

"Not enough disk space to extract the files.  Please free up space on C:\ and try again. (EX10)

The problem here is that my C:\ is on an SSD, so space on this dirve is tight.  Despite this, I started the process with more than 1 GB of free space (if I had to guess, I'd say 1.5 GB), and now, after the failure, I 539 MB of free space.  How much space should I erase on C:\ for my Illustrator CC installation actually works?

Simply redefine the variables 'Temp' of your system. My computer--> right click--> Properties--> Advanced--> Environment Variables system settings. Similarly, move your user folders to the other drive through your user management. You try to attack the problem in the wrong place. Flush out just the remnants and temporary files never will free enough space, if you're really that tight.

  • Re: CreativeCloudSet - Up.exe still installs ONLY on the C: drive

It is 2016. This still has not been set, let alone addressed. 3 wires, that I read, it seems to have been questioned and prayed for more than 3 years to be able to install it on another drive.

Ce_que that said is that: A) people are still spending money on Adobe and Adobe B) does not want to spend the resources to fix something when people don't want to stop using it.

Talk/vote with your dollars. Quit buying, quit renewing, send the current stock tumble, then the action will take place.

Thanks for the comments and details TonyInDallas.

Beyond the updates that I linked to in the #1 message we have made improvements to download and install the technology.  Currently, Illustrator CC 2015 and experience design CC (Preview) take advantage of this new technology.  You can find details about the Adobe products that are currently using this technology and the details about the messaging error, Troubleshoot Illustrator CC 2015 log files available at.  This technology allows smaller more robust downloads during the installation of Adobe Creative applications.

You can customize the installation location of your installed Adobe Creative applications if disk space is a big concern.  The download and installation of the temporary files must be on the same volume that contains the operating system.  You can find the option to change the installation location in the preferences of the creative Office Cloud app - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/manage-apps-services-desktop.html#topic-10.

Given that the main objective of Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application is to download and install Adobe Creative applications, it doesn't have the ability to customize the installation at this time.

Product keys are not sold without installation media.

Don't buy product keys for sites that sell just a product key - they are not authentic.

You can buy Windows 7 Upgrade here (or at a local store):

There is no discount on a second license of Windows 7 If you already have a Windows 7 license.

Hello cindy906, you should be able to add a smaller hard drive to your system and use the restore disks HP recovery that you should already have, while leaving the current hard drive installed.

There is a question that you would need to know. If you leave the current hard drive cables connected and use the Recovey HP restore to reimage the new hard drive, when you start the installation of the Windows operating system, the installation program (System partition) can be changed on the current hard drive. If you install Windows7 SP1, the Boot Manager will be changed and make the current version no longer starts.

Windows 7 creates a configuration (System) partition when it installs hidden. When there is already a system on a system partition, Windows 7 will be find and replace it with the new OS when you update to Windows 7 SP1.

Once the new disk has been reimagee with the game to restore HP Recovery disks, and the operating system has been installed, you can then reconnect the cables on the current hard drive and use it as a backup drive or delete it if you prefer.

You would not be able to move the current hard disk to another system, for legal reasons and problems of compatibility with the already installed drivers for the HP computer, unless you formatted the hard drive and deleted the C: and D: partitions and the hidden partition of 100 MB.

If all three partitions are formatted, the reader could be wiped clean and could be used on another system.

  • My hard drive is a failure. How can I save all the files (CIN OS) on another drive

I just want to copy everything to another drive hard, but every time I try this it is a problem and the process ends

You must use the disk cloning software (Windows 'copy' cannot be used to copy the operating system) but if the 'problem' is caused by the failed drive, you have waited too long.

If you have a Western Digital hard drive, you can get a free version of Acronis WD's (http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can buy separately cloning s/w (this is not an exhaustive list and is in no particular order):

    Acronis True Image Home 11

  • Move the Users folder to another drive or partition under Vista 64

I want to move my full users folder to another drive or partition under Vista 64-bit.

I found these instructions to do with Windows 7 and confirm that they work very well on a Windows 7 computer I set up yesterday.
ROBOCOPY, RMDIR, MKLINK programs all exist in Vista and have all the command line switches such as specified in section of Windows 7.
I want to use junction points as described in the article, rather than messing around with search-and-replace in registry. The use of junction points is cleaner and easier to reverse if I ever need to move the Users back folder to its original location.
These same instructions for Windows 7 works with Vista 64 bit to move my users folder to a different hard disk or partition?

Well, I couldn't wait any longer for a response.

So I gave him a test and Windows 7 instructions work perfectly with Vista 64 - bit word. Hope it will be useful to someone else.
  • How to make programs from the C: drive to another drive in Vista?

I do not know how to move. I had never done this before.

    * original title - I need to move some programs from my c drive to another drive to make more space, I do not know how to do it please help? *

    Hello

You cannot move installed programs from one drive to another

you will need to uninstall them and then reinstall the disk you want to install on these

During reinstallion of programs you would have the choice of which drive you want to install them on

  • Can save us from the Windows updates to another drive to increase disk space

Hi I want to ask I can save the update of Windows to another example of player: as d ' drive, or an external hard drive, because the update are by default save to my c drive. And my c disk space becomes low.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your query details.

I also appreciate that fact that you want to save the updates of Windows on another drive or location in order to increase the free space in C; drive.

Save updates of Windows on another drive location is not recommended because it can cause corruption in the system files which can lead to some unstable operating system. It can also affect Windows start the process.

Updates are automatically downloaded into the subfolder "C:\WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download".

If you want to increase the disk space, I suggest you run Disk Cleanup and check if it helps.

    Please see this link:
    Delete files using disk cleanup
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=Windows-7

It removes temporary files, empty the "Recycle Bin", and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

Note: When running Disk Cleanup on the disk hard if bad data files are found, all these data could be lost.

I also recommend move your data files stored on drive C: to another drive to increase disk space.
