    Hi, was hoping someone can help with this problem.

    I have a dell with windows vista home premium pc. I recently had my pc wiped clean by a dell technician (experienced no problems, just clean the pc) and later I received messages from update for different things.

    I got the message to install SP1 (KB936330). I installed it without any problems. When I went to open Internet Explore after installation it would cease to function almost immediately and tell me they would let me know when a solution is available. I also couldn't connect to my e-mail account.

    I did a restore and took off the installation of SP1 and everything is back to working very well. My question is, is this important SP1 or can I ignore it and if it is important, what can I do to make my IE and e-mail work after I install it?

    Hi regg70,

    Thank you for visiting the Community Forums of Microsoft Vista.

    SP1 is very important. The problem you describe is not common, so there is probably a problem with your system.

    I think you should check the integrity of systems and after that you are sure it's good, reinstall SP1 again.

    Here are the directions on how to do it. You need to run these instructions with administrator access.

    Quick instructions for CHKDSK and SFC

    Follow these steps.

    Type cmd into the search bar and press to enter.

    The chkdsk command line type, then press on enter.

    If it finds errors, type chkdsk /f to repair.

    Once that is complete, insert your windows installation disc in the drive and return to the command prompt. Type sfc/scannow, and then enter.

    Please let us know how it goes.

  • Need help to install Vista Ultimate x 64 SP1 - error 0x800F081F - standard corrections do not work

    I have trouble getting Service Pack 1 installed on Windows Vista x 64 final.

    Current issue: SP1 does not appear as an update, and I have not yet installed.  Windows Update tells me that I'm completely up to date.

    History (memory, may be some errors):

    • Performed the new installation, including Vista Ultimate x 64 disk erasure (MSDN)
    • Updated to current with windows update
    • Installed Office 2007 Ultimate (MSDN) (don't know where update what happened)
    • Active Windows (could be a problem doing this after you install updates?)
    • Installed CPU usage, network, gadgets sidebar discs counter meter
    • Installed Live Family Safety
    • Installed Chrome
    • Installed Google Apps
    • Google Pack antivirus installed
    • Installed Google Earth
    • Attempted a manual installation of SP1 - fails with the error 0x800F081F
    At the present time, I can't get a manual of installation of SP1 to work, and Windows Update tells me that I am up to date.  -> System control panel tells me I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, but does not list all service packs.  He also confirmed that the x 64 edition is installed.
    Steps for debugging:
    • Installed the drivers for the sound card motherboard
    • A ran complete chkdsk on drive to repair bad sectors
    • Ran the system file checker - find corrupted files, but can't fix
    • Journal CBS does contain no [SF] cannot repair the entries
    • Installed continues to update the system tool - tool does eventually make a update facility - who settle whenever I run

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    Failed to initialize the installation program. Error 110.
    I think it has something to do with the MSI or "Windows Installer". I tried to uninstall all of THE products of National Instruments, but it did not help. Any ideas?
    Hello. Thank you. I tried, but in fact, it did not help. However, after doing a little research on our, I found a solution by following these steps:
    1. reboot Windows XP in Safe Mode
    2. double-click on the Setup program to start the installation process
    3 cancel the installation process after it starts
    4. restart windows in normal mode
    Now, all my applications of MSI with setup.exe work correctly! Quite strange. Just for the record: this problem was not due to a Virus protection program (as all assumed first that many people) and it kept me from running applications (MSI?) of ANY installer from a CD.
  • Automatic updates has attempted to install KB963707 repeatedly, preventing the installation of SP1.
    Laptop with Vista Home Premium 32-bit tries to install KB963707 again and again and more, preventing the installation of SP1. Although SP1 is completely and correctly installed, it states that it has not installed and back.
    Have you tried disabling the automatic updates, and then install service packs?
    A practice that I had in XP when the reinstallation of the operating system was to disable the automatic updates, wait until I had installed all service packs, then turn it back on.
    To disable automatic updates
    GoTo Start-> Control Panel
    Click on "Classic view".
    Click on "windows update", which is usually towards the end
    Click on "change settings".
    under "major updates" choose one of the last two options. Is the "check for updates but let me choose whether to install" or "never check the updates. It does not matter because we will change things back that upgrading to SP2.
    Error code 0 x 80070005 usually indicates that you don't have enough privileges or the operation is blocked. I know, some programs (Boot Camp on a Mac PC, etc.) is not compatible with Windows 7, if you have installed these programs on the computer, you may not be able to perform the upgrade. You should uninstall these programs before upgrading. In addition, such a question may be related to UAC, I recommend you turn off UAC in Windows Vista, if you have installed security software, try uninstalling the security application as well.
