Installation of SP1

Hi, was hoping someone can help with this problem.

I have a dell with windows vista home premium pc. I recently had my pc wiped clean by a dell technician (experienced no problems, just clean the pc) and later I received messages from update for different things.

I got the message to install SP1 (KB936330). I installed it without any problems. When I went to open Internet Explore after installation it would cease to function almost immediately and tell me they would let me know when a solution is available. I also couldn't connect to my e-mail account.

I did a restore and took off the installation of SP1 and everything is back to working very well. My question is, is this important SP1 or can I ignore it and if it is important, what can I do to make my IE and e-mail work after I install it?

Hi regg70,

Thank you for visiting the Community Forums of Microsoft Vista.

SP1 is very important. The problem you describe is not common, so there is probably a problem with your system.

I think you should check the integrity of systems and after that you are sure it's good, reinstall SP1 again.

Here are the directions on how to do it. You need to run these instructions with administrator access.

Quick instructions for CHKDSK and SFC

Follow these steps.

Type cmd into the search bar and press to enter.

The chkdsk command line type, then press on enter.

If it finds errors, type chkdsk /f to repair.

Once that is complete, insert your windows installation disc in the drive and return to the command prompt. Type sfc/scannow, and then enter.

Please let us know how it goes.

Have you tried disabling the automatic updates, and then install service packs?
A practice that I had in XP when the reinstallation of the operating system was to disable the automatic updates, wait until I had installed all service packs, then turn it back on.

    To disable automatic updates
    GoTo Start-> Control Panel
    Click on "Classic view".
Click on "windows update", which is usually towards the end
    Click on "change settings".

under "major updates" choose one of the last two options. Is the "check for updates but let me choose whether to install" or "never check the updates. It does not matter because we will change things back that upgrading to SP2.

  • Laptop is not able to restart after the installation of SP1

I have a Toshiba laptop which has Vista Home Basic.
I installed SP1 last week and everything worked fine.
EXCEPT with SP1 I could not connect my iPod and so I decided to do a restore of the system for when I didn't have the SP1.
My iPod has continued to have problems anyway.

So just today. I tried to reinstall SP1.
Let him set up. Everything seems to happen normally.
I came back a couple hours later and my laptop has a black screen.
    It also has white text:

    !! Oxc01a001d! 9006/94145 (\Registry\Machine\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\...)

I turned off the laptop and tried to restart my laptop.
It is said that you cannot start Windows. I tried to do a repair. And I get a notification saying that he is unable to repair the computer automatically. And I tried to make me do a system recovery. ((I will not attempt recovery of the system until I know I must. Because I did not know this update was extremely important and have not backed up my files))

Again, I rebooted and this time I tried to start Windows normally.
Yet once, I get the above code.
So I guess that the laptop is verification of files? before we start?
This code is constantly flashing/blinking way glitch. (I hope this is necessary)

I think I can assume that this is not a good sign.
Can someone help me? And I would like to know what to do?
My idea is now to let sit and try to load all the files, otherwise I'll do a reinstall System...:]

BTW: At this time I had my laptop on the white text. And my computer is in standby mode. I tried to 'wake up' and now the screen is all black. Now I'm afraid it is stuck in standby mode, which has also held several weeks ago...

  • Problem after installation of SP1 on my laptop

Windows Update prompted me to install SP1. thought it was another update so let it. But after installing I rebbooted my laptop and got an error:! oxc0190036! 1501/91936 (netprofm.dll) I rebooted and ran the Startup Repair. There is no anti-virus installed in my computer

The lack of antivirus real-time protection isn't the source of your problem, Vista SP1.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the page following before otherwise connect the machine to a network or the internet and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs, or updates IE and before installing your new anti-virus application.

  • Reset computer to factory settings, installed SP1 and lost control of the keyboard and the mouse. Had to do system restore just before the installation of SP1.

    Original title: help

OK to reset to factory settings to allow hopefully laptop to read CDs again, then downloaded installed sp1 and lost control of the keyboard and the mouse, and still can not play music not forget hadda restart in safe mode to use the system restore to just installing the sp1 b4

    Hi MartyFenwick,

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will certainly help the question of fixing.

To help you suggest several steps to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

    1. What is the brand and model of the computer?

    2. What is the brand and model of the mouse and keyboard?

    3. you receive an error code or message?

    4. is everything works well after running system restore?

    5. what exactly do you mean by "hadda restart in safe mode to use the system restore to just installing the sp1 b4?

    6. what happens when you try to play music CDs?

    7. what program you use to play the CD?

Please follow the methods and mark the question below:

Before you install SP1, follow the method 1 and 2.

    Method 1:

You need to perform a clean boot to prevent any third party conflicting application from interfering with your computer.

To put the computer in a clean boot state, you must follow the steps in the article mentioned below and check with the question.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: You must follow step 3 of the article mentioned above to recover your computer to a Normal startup after you complete all the steps.

    Method 2:

I suggest you disable the antivirus for temporarily until the installation of SP 1.

    Disable the antivirus software:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 3:

Follow the steps in the link for problems with the keyboard and the mouse below.

  • Option of surround sound clothes outside with HD4870 HDMI connection after installation of SP1 Vista54

Clothes outside with HD4870 and HDMI connection surround sound option
I just built an HTPC and installed SP1 Vista64 and I have a problem. I have a DFI LanParty very X 58-T3H6 motherboard and a VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 video card with HD audio. I have a HDMI cable to my Sony AV receiver and all I get is Audio stereo. The subwoofer never wakes from sleep, or AV receiver indicates anything but a stereo input.

I have the RealTek HDMI audio device installed, and he says he's working properly in Device Manager. Under properties, what is proposed is stereo speakers. Surround sound is presented as an option, but it is grayed out and not selectable. All drivers are up to date from four days and I have the on-board sound card mother disabled in the BIOS and it does not appear in the Windows Device Manager, nor are there any other audio device except the RealTek HD HDMI audio device.

Other HDMI devices, such as my XBOX 360, a surround sound very well via the AV Sony receiver.

VisionTek support told me to install the RealTek HDMI driver, I did, but that's all the help they were able to give me.  The problem persists.  Surround sound is gray under sound properties for this device,

I took the HDMI cable from HDMI port on the video card and plugged on my XBOX 360 and I get surround sound, so I know that the cable and the audio/video receiver is configured correctly.

If anyone has an extra idea about it, I know you more!

    Thank you!
