Installation of Windows 8 hangs and fails

Separated from this thread.

I had exactly the same problem and performed all the six steps.  Still will not work, unfortunately.  Is there anything else I can try?

After updating all the drivers and BIOS, I could move from Windows XP to Windows 8.  I had nothing to do.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Help the clean installation of Windows 7 Pro and using the GPO to run automatic updates and restart all night

I am trying to solve a problem that will probably require a new installation of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The grace period ends in 3 days, and the next 30 days are final exams at the College. I have 2 licenses (and product key) of Windows 7 Pro, but my drive HARD goes wrong and I don't want to use MAK activation. I will be eventually to replace the disk, but is now bad timing.

If a reinstall is needed, I was going to ask if anyone knows how to set the strategy of perhaps a GPO where Windows is updated automatically in the background and after installing updates, 45 or 60 minutes, then restart. The goal would be to have a computer fully patched when I wake up in the morning.

    This is my plan:

Install Windows 7 Pro SP1 64 bit > Windows automatically updated and plug the Ethernet cable > define a GPO where the computer waiting for 45 to 60 minutes after installation of updates (so the msi may end in the background, and I do not interrupt the installation) > the PC will restart > more update swill be downloaded and installed > wait due to the policy of GPO before reboot > Reboot > do it until it's over. > wake up with a PC fully patched 7-9 hours later.

Is this a workable plan?, and if so, how do I define policies such as delay restarting, etc. to achieve?

The reset did not work. It would be a simple solution. I have a valid license, but I don't want to replace the HARD drive until after final exams are over, so I'll reinstall and activate. I try to achieve in the next 24 hours, so it doesn't keep me from my school work.  I must also support and will then replace my files.

Feel free to advanced used terminology. I have some experience.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • New installs on Windows 8.1 and file transfer from an external drive, saved from death PC Vista machine

Hi, my old under Vista Home Premium (32 bit) desktop PC is dead and has been replaced by a new machine Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

I took the hard drive from my old PC and put it in an envelope and the files seem to be fine. I need advice on how to do the following things 4:

    (1) how to find and transfer of e-mail, including records and contacts (I used the e-mail program provided Vista on the old machine) on the new machine and I can't actually set up mail on the new machine to my ISP (BT Yahoo) first (I didn't click on the mail app yet).

    (2) how to find and transfer bookmarks/favorites of Chrome and the old disk to ie11 and/or Chrome structure on the new machine.

    (3) how do I transfer files (photos, music, documents, etc.) so that they are available for all users

    (4) I installed iTunes on the new PC, I want to transfer music files and album cover (I don't know how the album covers are found, and some are "home made" to cover the chronological collections of singles) from the old machine in the easiest way possible

Thank you for all the tips and advice.

Hi Tovoyer, I'll try to answer your questions in order.

    1. Transfer old contacts and emails in Windows Vista Mail

      • First of all, you know that Windows Vista was the latest OS to come with a desktop e-mail program.  Windows 7 and 8 do not come with any successor to the Windows Vista Mail program.  Instead, you can get it as a download in the Windows Essentials page option.  Windows 8 has a rudimentary base e-mail app, but it is designed for the Tablet/phones and the lamp.  If you want something that compares to Vista mail program, you'll want to get the free download of the essential elements in this link before you move forward.
      • After you have installed most of Windows, you can open the program (so renamed "Windows Live Mail" and add your ISP e-mail account.)  This will download depending on how your ISP provides email, all or part of your story by e-mail in the new programme, possibly negating the need to transfer anything from your old installation.
      • If you do not need to transfer your old files, navigate to the file / import Messages option in the Windows Live Mail program.  Choose "Windows Mail" in the list, and then navigate to this folder on your external hard drive attached:

        D:\Users\(your user name) \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local records
(replace D with the drive letter for your hard disk enclosure, of course).

      • To transfer your Contacts is even easier. The Vista mail program did not contact directly, it stores everything in this folder

        D:\Users\(your username) \Contacts

The file present in Windows 8, you can simply copy (or drag-and - drop) your contacts from the external drive on your drive of Windows 8 (C:\Users\(your name) \Contacts) and it will be flawless.

    2. Transfer of Chrome Favorites
      1. If you signed in using your Google account chrome, all of your favorites are stored in Google account, ready to be restored without effort.  Just to download Chrome again, go to the Tools menu and connect you and your bookmarks should appear.

If you do not use the Google account or had the sync disabled, you can still find your bookmarks.  After installing Chrome on your new PC, find the old bookmarks on the external hard drive file here:

        D:\Users\(your Name) \appdata\local\google\chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks
(Note the bookmarks is a file, not a folder, but has no file extension).

And put it in the same folder on your installation of Windows 8.

    3. Transfer of Documents and Photos/etc and put at the disposal of all users

Simply drag - move the files in the folder "Public" user on Windows 8.  These files are shared by all users.

    C:\Users\Public (\documents \pictures, \videos \music, etc...)

  • You can simply drag the folder iTunes from the old drive to the same place in the drive of new (music folder of your user account).

  • New installation of windows 7 hangs on logout

HI, I ran into a problem installing Windows 7 HP 64 bit on a system. The problem is the hook of the unit on the logging off screen and must be returned to zero/restarted hard to go. An Asus P5n - e sli Mobo with Core2Duo 2 GB ram, 250 GB WD HD device worked Xp for years. Because of the problem, I ran a comprehensive diagnosis on equipment and the HD, several passes, not a single error.

Reinstall 3 different times even try another disc same problem. Reading some posts on the web they say he's a driver suspended. I tried the clean boot and start the unit disconnect and close perfectly safe mode. It is a driver issue, but all drivers are coming from the 7 installation disc. Tried the latest driver from Nvidia for the graphics card and the audio driver from ASUS, but their was no change. The unit seems to run flawlessly than...  Ideas? If the microsoft driver for one of the devices is the problem of how will get rid of him? It will not load it self on every restart if deleted?

    Thank you

    Hello
Because them so was bit in the machine, I decided to heck him pull the graphics card an Asus NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS 256 MB PCI-E card. Must be something between the motherboard chipset and the chipset graphics card because no matter if Microsofts driver or driver Nvidia the same happens even if I prefer chipset Nvidia cards, I left down an ATI card and no disconnection over issues. Very strange, because I have the same card in the machines with very similar Asus motherboard and clean installed 7 smoothly.

    Hello

This is mainly caused by an incompatible Shell Extension.

You can download this reg from my SkyDrive file:

    http://CID-128fc518635be2dc.SkyDrive.live.com/self.aspx/.public/Ms%20Foren/registry/WER%5E_Explorer.reg

and double click on the file to import. If you are unable to do this, run regedit.exe and import the registry file here!

When the Windows Explorer crashes, Windows Error Reporting Service [1] creates a dmp under C:\Localdumps. Please download the file to your public Skydrive folder [2] and post the link here. I take a look at the discharge with the debugger, maybe that I can see what Shell extension is the cause.

  • Windows Explorer hangs and crashes on (tried everything) video files

So I've had this problem for awhile now and it does not seem to deteriorate. Every time I open a folder in Windows Explorer that contains video files (of any type), YOU start to have problems. The Green loading bar starts to take forever, or if that manages to load properly, then doing ANYTHING with these files will result in US gel and ends up crashing. No matter if it is just a right-click, trying to highlight, trying to move, try to remove or trying to open. They all get the same answer.

Things I've tried and the results:

-Set the folder options to never display thumbnails (bar is no longer a problem too bright green)

-Set options folder for general documents

-Tried to optimize files with videos to video

    -Switched back to General

    -Ran of virus/malware scans (clean)

-Never allowed cache, the nooks and the crannies of unnecessary files

-Uninstall unused programs on C:\ for free space

    -Defragged everything

-Uninstalled and reinstalled each video player

-Uninstalled and reinstalled all my codecs, as well some as superfluous jic

-Have toggled between every possible program by default, VLC seems more reliable (see the note below VLC), Quicktime least WMP and DivX uneven at best

-Ran msconfig and methodically unchecked/restarted and then double checked / restart all services and the start of the program (no change)

-Ran SFC Scannow (no reported problem)

-Booted safe mode (no difference, we HAVE still freezes on video files, don't say anything about the running server error)

-Use a directory of third-party files (Q - dir) to access files, Q - dir froze after right click on videos

-Use a video converter to convert videos between file types, now accessible but converted videos seems not to to material they are converted into - in addition, nonconverted original suddenly too much work very well, but ONLY those that are accessible by the converter

-Used VLC to find and open the video files. Œuvres, but only one at a time, that is, if I try to open another video file after the first in the same window of VLC, VLC freezes. Need to close the program, and then reopen the program to open a new file without freezing. Recently opened files of VLC are accessible via Windows Explorer without freezing (note, the accessibility seems temporary, filed consulted with VLC a few days ago to return to the State unclickable).

-Note on VLC: may seem to move and delete files using the VLC browser without problem, but ONLY before opening any file - after VLC must be closed and then reopened as previously reported

And Yes, I turned it works several times.

I feel that I've tried everything, and the problem seems to be growing. I feel like there must be a problem with the way that we, I don't know, compiling data on files or something, but I don't have enough background tech to get past this wave and completely unnecessary idea.

Oddly enough, everything else on my computer is fine. Non-video-folder navigation is fine, no lag or freeze, programs starts quickly, internet connection is fine, browser videos play without problem and when I can get the video file plays on something they play very well - just good luck for their.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'm about to tear my hair out.

    Hello

    Thanks for the reply.

As you said you are not facing this problem to boot, it means that you are facing this problem due to a third-party application.

If you are referring to the steps in the link below under 8.1 and Windows 8 Windows in 3 steps , after you check the box against hide all Microsoft services. You will see a list of non-Microsoft services, you need to check the cause of these services.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Uncheck half the service and check the rest of the half.  If you face the question yet, then it menas that you are facing this issue due to services that were not invalid.

I had a problem with Windows Vista in the past months where it hangs on a blue screen or crashes at startup. Usually, I need to restart the computer several times before I'm finally able to get on the desktop and then it works fine after that. I went as far as when you run a restore complete system twice, but the problem persists. Thinking that maybe that's a hardware problem, I ran a diagnostic equipment on the memory, video card, hard drive, motherboard and all other hardware components but the diagnostic equipment can find nothing wrong.

    Here is my system configuration:

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium
    Hewlet Packard AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core processor 5600 + 2.80 GHx
