The list of drivers and devices provided by Toshiba is too long to write on a single installation with XP CD.

  My second question is: there is an update of the bios/firmware required in accordance with the instruction list. Is it necessary BEFORE or AFTER the installation of Windows XP Home edition?

  If I decide to go back to VISTA using the recovery CD, I must restore the bios/firmware?

  You will need to include only the Intel Matrix Storage Manger for the XP CD again. Without this iMSM XP will not see the HARD drive
  This driver is important. Other drivers can be installed after the installation of XP!

  There are 2 versions of BIOS; One for Vista and one for XP. Generally, the update of the BIOS must be made before the instillation of OS but you can also try to do after installing XP. In both cases, the update of the BIOS would be possible.

  It's not really a taken way in charge to remove only the cancelled or failed updates. These are taken from windows logs and displayed in the history. Steps that Jose post is a way to remove all files in history and will remove all updates as well as a failed/cancelled updates successfully.

  But Microsoft only provides these downloads for Windows 7 keys to selling product at retail, not preinstalled OEM product keys (Dell, HP, etc.).

After installation, you must activate by telephone and NOT by an automatic online activation.

  As others have posted, there is nowhere on the Microsoft site that you can download an ISO file or equivalent for Windows XP Edition family.  You wouldn't use a downloaded disk even if you could find one elsewhere on the internet because they are probably packed full of malware, rootkits, and who knows what else - not what you want to infest your computer with. Yes, I timed it actually to see how long it takes for Windows load up before you can start actually using my computer. My old gateway desktop which is in reality a P4 and has Windows 7 installed on it opens in less than 45 seconds and is good to go. So I definitely do a clean install on my laptop to clean up all the UNWANTED horrible. But can I use the Windows 7 key on the back of my laptop after a clean install? I go to download the English version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit of Digital River. Currently, my laptop has the same version that is the English version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit as mentioned on this page from Sony

  There is no need to separately download OEM or retail of Windows 7 RTM installation DVD ISO, as the release of Windows 7 installation can be easily converted using simply the correct product key (for example OEM_SLP product key can convert an installation of Windows 7 at retail in OEM version), as issued by the OEM product keys has a different basis of the retail product key. For ISO of DVD images, the only difference between a Windows 7 RTM retail ISO and ISO of OEM of Windows 7 RTM is in position of EI.cfg file [channel], which specifies the sales channel to retail or OEM.
