Installed a new hard drive and now Windows XP will not activate.

Resettlement on new disc

Hey there-

I bought a new SSD, had it installed and installed Windows XP by using a Setup disk I had laying around.  He wants to be activated (even if the original installation is always on the computer, but on the 'slave', non-Boot drive).  When I try to use the activation code that was on the original hard disk, it will not work.  On the last 10-15 years, of which several were recovered for parts, I bought at least a half dozen computers with Windows XP (i.e., I have many more devices running Windows XP licenses).  I tried to enter codes Activation of certain decisions which have been taken down, and I can't at work either one of them.  I tried to use dial-in Activation (by entering the installation of 54-digit ID), with no luck as well.  Is it possible to get it work?

Thank you

  • Windows activation - new hard drive and reinstalled Windows, but will not work with the product key

    Hi all

My hard drive died so I put a new in and installed Windows on a drive, but when I have just activated and put my product key does not work. In fact, I get this day by putting in and then it says character not aloud.

Please can someone help? All I've done is put a new hard drive in but guess that Windows detects that the product key has been used on the old, which explains why it won't work on the new. What should I do to activate the key?

    Thank you

Thanks a lot for your useful replies. I've got in contact with Microsoft and they gave me a key and it worked!

  • Installed the new hard drive and now can't activate Widnows 7 as it says not valid for clean installation

This computer is having problems and we tried to upgrade to Windows 7 hard drive crashed.  We installed the new hard drive.  Now, we try to activate this copy but code comes up saying invalid for a clean install.  We need to have some new code or just get ours to work.

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

my hard is damaged in some portion.can, I changed the new hard drive and reinstall Windows vista with the existing product key?

    Hello

Yes, you can reinstall vista with your product key on the new hard drive

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

    Hey Brian39

If you change the motherboard that you normally have to reinstall vista

your hard drive if you ever reinstalled vista contains the drivers for the old motherboard etc.

and if vista is pre-installed you can not put the motherboard unless you do so in collaboration with the computer manufacturer

If a retail license, you can change the motherboard

but you will normally always reinstall vista for reasons

  • My computer turns off during an update to windows xp and now windows xp will not load.

My computer turns off during an update to windows xp and now windows xp will not load.  It gives me the option of last known good configuration and safe mode startup and normal startup, but it just goes back to the loading screen then flashes a blue error screen then back to display boot options.  I don't have a recovery disc as the laptop does not have a CD-ROM drive or a floppy drive.  I have the product key, but I don't know where or how repair the operating system.

Contact the manufacturer of your laptop as there must be a way to restore the computer. There may be a hidden restore partition.

  • Having trouble installing new drivers after installing a new hard drive and Windows Vista.

I just installed a new hard drive on my computer of dell inspiron 1525. I managed to do it and it worked. I had a disc from dell to reinstall windows vista edition Home premium 32-bit and had drivers and utilities dvd. However I couldn't connect to the internet. I understand I'm missing some drivers but I rebooted the computer, but it goes to the black screen asking you to start in safe mode, safe mode with network, normally and something else. But after trying all of them, it goes straight to this same screen. What can I do? Or I can clear the new hard drive and start over? Any ideas?

  • HP G71: Install the new hard drive and the raw copy

    Hello

My HP G71 is 64-bit, 4 GB RAM and hard drive WD320BEVT. The laptop has more than 5 years of service and I want to replace with a new hard drive while performing a raw copy of the current. I have a dual boot Win 7/Ubuntu installation I want to keep on the new hard drive.

As I have not found a new HD of the same type and capacity, I would like to replace the current one with an another Western Digital 2.5 ", the IDE interface, but with a capacity of 0.5 to 1 TB (I choose one or the other).

    My questions:

-can I install one of these hard drives on this laptop? They are compatible with the current BIOS/chipset?

-If I make a raw copy of the 320 GB drive to the 0.5 or 1 TB, how would the current operating system partitions will be reflected in a higher capacity drive?

-J' bought an IDE/USB interface adapter as well as to make possible the raw copy, could you recommend, if these questions have the THUMB, a good free to use software that I could use?

    Thanks for your help!

Yes I use Kubuntu and tried several times to just the entire disk image and it does not reproduce partitions Linux and Grub, but when you try to start Linux it will hang and say can not find the prior specific hard drive. So now I just make a backup of Windows and reinstall Kubuntu from scratch. Much easier. I think there are also Linux backup programs you can use, but never really saw the need.

  • HP EliteBook 8440p: Best boot option after installing the new hard drive and put to memory.

I just installed the new hard drive for my laptop and will get the cards of two memory installed tomorrow. I would like advice on what would be the best option to start when the laptop for the first time I'm on fire.

I have the original Windows HP recovery disk came with the computer.

I also have a recovery disc and a system image on disks created with Macrium Reflect two days ago.

I also have a recovery disc and a system image is created on an external hard drive Seagate two days ago. (I've read mixed reviews on these is currently working as a media of rescue with Win7 Pro).

I guess if I use the HP recovery disc I would be then just use any system image I prefer, without the recovery disk. Anyone know if it makes a difference at all which method to use?

    bozzle73

My recommendation would be to restore using the image of MR (Macrium Reflect) you did.

But then, I used Mr. on all my PCs for years and am a big fan - having had it Miss ever in the years and years of use.

You will need boot from the boot of MR media (you did that right) and, if you photographed all the required partitions for the operating system, restore it on the new drive should take a few minutes, and when this is done, you reboot and everything should be OK.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

    Hey rcfball66

You can always buy a gateway vista recovery disk to reinstall vista back to the factory with the new drive settings

They provide at a nominal cost

manufacturers of hard drive normally supplies free software to their Web sites for the movement of the operating systems of the old hard drive to the new hard disk cloning you buy home

You can also use programs third 3rd to do this, or upgrade Vista Home Basic vista full for pc full upward

but you can normally buy 3rd party programs

read below information about such a program
