Installing one hard drive to another...

So what I want to do is quite simple, but I do not know how to accomplish it.  I have the download version of Windows 7, which was offered by the promotional pre-order contract College student... the specific file name is "Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x86.exe '... I have another hard drive, it is twice as large as this one and it was formatted clean, nothing about this.  What I want to do, it of having two drives connected to my PC and install it from my current drive to the new...

Yes, you can install from a copy of the installation on another hard drive files.

  • Transfer from one hard drive to another

I transferred all my music from one hard disk to another. I want to be able to play these files from the new location without redownloading everything iTunes game or duplication of entries for the itunes files.  At the moment Itunes shows my entire library with the icon for download next to him. If I drag and drop files from the new location to Itunes, it creates duplicate entries.  I could re - download the entire library through itunes game, but it would be a big waste of time. I wish I could tell itunes to search my library in the new location of the directory. Is this possible?

For general information, see make a library of portable split . If the library was already divided and you have moved the content from one disk to the other you can fix things by reassigning drive letters. Otherwise if you copy the library files and place inside press it then it should be as if you moved a portable library as a unit and everything should be back in place.

Despite the title, this video explains how to MOVE pictures, not how to copy.

There is no way to make copies of the photos using Lightroom, you can move the photos using Lightroom.

Lightroom will result in no records per day, except when you import photos. If I could make a suggestion, leave your files in the same "mess" they are in now and use the keywords and other metadata to allow you to organize and search.

  • How to copy data from one hard drive to another after the upgrade?

I have a HP e9220y, and I recently bought a new hard drive for it. There is nothing wrong with the former, but this one has a 64 MB cache and 7200 RPM so I hope it will be a little faster. I installed it and it works fine, but I want to copy all data from the old disk to the new so I can start everything off the faster hard drive and I seem to have a bit of doing wrong. I can't just copy and paste because of the Windows system files that are used. And last night when I set up Windows backup, and went to bed, when I thought it that Windows has recovered from a stop unexpected, rebooted, and only 2 GB of data saved obtained.

What is the best way to move all the data from the old drive to the new drive, make it the default C: drive and move partitions system and factory_image as well? Thank you!

    (1) If your old drive and the new drive is Seagate or Western Digital, then free House with their cloning software.

    (2) before starting the clone process, I found best to perform a disk cleanup and defragmentation.

Cloning software to copy the two partitions. Example:

    Old drive 250 GB formatted to 232 C: created 220 and 12 GB D:

New 1000GO drive formatted to 931 GB created 919 GB C: and D: to 12 GB

The "Seagate disc Wizard" cloning software will let create you a clone automatic or manual partition resizing.

The two modes to offer an overview of the actions before commit you. The manual on this page of Seagate (PDF) is 68 pages.

After the cloning process he complete, all you have to do is swap on the disks. Besure to connect your new disc on the original motherboard SATA port.

  • Transfer Windows 7 OS from one hard drive to another

I think of buying a new hard drive soon, but stumbled upon this question.

I currently have a genuine Windows 7 operating system installed on my computer. I had initially installed Windows Vista , but I had bought and installed a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade.
If I haven't bought a new hard drive (in the sense of higher data transfer rate), would I be able to pass all of my files and my disk Windows 7 operating system hard current to the new hard drive?
Or I have to buy another copy of the 'easy transfer' Windows 7 Edition Home Premium and files?

  • How to transfer data from one hard drive to another?

I don't know how and has been upgraded to a new hard drive...

    Hello

Well, it may be quite simple, if you install the new OS in the new drive.

Then you connect the older HARD drive, and you should be able to explore the contents of the HARD drive in windows and copy the data from the old disk to the new. Be careful with what is selected in the BIOS startup disk.

But depends on the unit you have, because you might end up having several types of questions.

You can also use any kind of external card, depends on the type of connection of HARD drive you have and for example, if its SATA, you can simply use a SATA to USB adapter.

Let me know if this helped.

    Thank you

Old disk 60Go new 320 GB drive.  I want to do the new replacement for the old disk drive.

    Use disk cloning software.

The safest way is to use an external hard drive enclosure to maintain the new disc during the cloning operation.  These come with interfaces USB or e-SATA to IDE or SATA interfaces for the drive and the computer.  Be sure to get the correct type.  If you have an available internal drive Bay, you can put the new drive it for the cloning operation, but do NOT restart with two connected drives.  After everything was settled down, you can mount the old disk of 60 GB inside, format and use it for storage of backup.

Cloning (copy to disc) software may have been bundled with your new drive or may be accessed free of charge from the manufacturer of the new command.

Otherwise, here are a few apps cloning that I have used myself or have been recommended by members of the community:

    Acronis True Image Home
    Casper
    Paragon Drive Copy

    Hello

I have a 400 GB SATA wd which was in my main computer all of a sudden it starts to click and I told us to install it in another computer and down my files.

My second computer has vista home

and I have an installation of sata wd 160 GB

When I put the WD 400 in the vista computer and go into computer disk management management I'm not

what needs to be done to ensure that I get my files on the disk

    Hello

You 'slave' it in another computer as a secondary drive. you do not try and run it in another computer as a Bootable drive.

The best and easiest way is to use a "USB hard disk box" > put the hard failure that > plug into the computer to work > try and read from there.

If it is too damaged to read, you may need to contact the data recovery specialists; but they are very expensive.

  • Copy the library from an external hard drive to another catalog EHD and sync

Already, I saw this link but it doesn't tell me how to copy the library, it simply moving photos from one hard drive to another How to copy files to an external hard drive in Lightroom "Julieanne Kost's Blog of »

I want to know how can I make a second copy of my library on my second drive, backup in case where my only main falls down and I want it so that my catalog can be synchronized with my second backup drive.

    Any ideas?

    The easy answer is to-

    1. close Lightroom

2 use the software to 'mirror' of your Master images folder and subfolders of the primary transmission to the second DHM operation.

Some free Windows software-SyncBack, MS-Synctoy, FreeFileSync.

    * If your Lightroom catalog file exists in the records of Master images, it will appear in the "mirror".

    * You can exclude the... Previews.lrdata folder of EHD. (it can be huge, and it can be re-built)

    * Note: "block mirror" made an exact copy of the files, it adds new files and removes the file 'deleted' SMT. It should not be used as a backup of the system-Deleted files are also deleted from the "mirror".

    * Note: You must not access the EHD copy using the catalogue work Lightroom on the main drive - this will only create chaos.

    3. If you want to restore from a system crash JEP 'mirror' will catalogue and image files in the exact state at the time of the last "mirror." Copy everything back to the main unit and open the catalog. LRCAT file. Lightroom is back in business.

  • Backup to one external hard drive to another

Hoping someone can explain to me how to copy a backup of one hard external to another.  I managed to make a complete backup of the old iMac, my sister just before he died.  The backup is located on a WD My Passport for Mac and I would like to copy the backup to another external hard drive, maintaining the original on My Passport for Mac, just to keep safe in the event of failure of one of the external drives.  This backup contains the only copy of hundreds of pictures.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thank you.

If it's a Time Machine backup, click here for more information.

If there is a bootable clone, rerun the utility of cloning, but with the new source and destination drives.

  • I want to copy files from one external hard drive to another and can not?

    Hello

I try to copy the photo files and video from one hard disk to another.

The donor 2 TB drive is formatted NTFS and the receiver is 1 TB OSX extended.

There are about 72 000 photos and 475 GB in size. The 56 video about 226 GB files copied with some lacks but then make drag and drop made the other files of 5 or 6.

I tried to drag and drop, but some files have been copied not. After a lot of research through what was had been transferred I found about 5,000 had not copied I then did drag and drop with each of the 20 files or if some copied OK.

The troublesome files kept suggesting that a file "already exists" and stops the process when I clicked ok.

I want to delete the NTFS drive and reformat for OS X extended and then replace them on the 2 TB drive.

What I am doing wrong? Need me a software to copy?

Select the drive in the disk, then Edit/restore utility and select your 2 TB drive in restoration since. This will probably reformat the external hard drive, erase all data.

  • The OEM Win XP OS can be installed on a hard drive to another PC to use the OEM PC?

    Hello

I have a problem. My PC has only one hard disk, I could not format a new HD.

I need to rely on someone to get in shape for me.

If I give him my XP OEM installation disc to install this hard drive for the sake of practice, will it work?

If it works, I get this hard drive on my OEM PC and install it to start and use?

Or is it necessary for the installation will take place from the DVD on the PC OEM itself drive after formatting by a third party?

    Thank you

    Low

    Hello

In addition to problems of licenses with the OEM licenses, you cannot install XP on a different computer and then swap disks as bad hardware drivers (motherboard, etc.) would then be included when installing.

"Or is it necessary for installation will take place from the DVD on the PC OEM itself drive after formatting by a third party?"

You don't need to get into shape by a 3rd party.

This should be done during installation
