Separate partition for VMWare Fusion

Is it a good idea to put a disk/partition separated to install VMWare Fusion and Windows? I'm trying to separate on an Apple iMac programs and by Fusion/Windows programs and data.

Thank you

Felix

How you want to manage your host file system of the disk is really up to you and a Virtual Machine is nothing more then a set of files on the file system of the host and are under normal circumstances essentially autonomous.  It you do not call options like VMware Shared Folders and more particularly mirrored folders and files created by an application in the OS of the Virtual Machine are separate and apart from the files created by applications on the host computer as they are stored in disk files hard (hard) within the entire Virtual Machine virtual.  For reference, take a look on: work with Virtual Machine packages

That said, I personally keep my Virtual Machines on another physical partition of the hard drive of the host or a separate hard drive from the hard drive of the host completely OS.  Basically I have what it takes to be able to restore my OS host partition separately from my drive/Partition/Volume data only when user / as appropriate.

  • No Win7 x 64 drivers for VMWare Fusion bridge or a NAT?

New Snow Leopard Mac, new installation of Boot Camp of Win7 x 64 professional. All drivers install; works very well. Then I install VMWare Fusion 3.0 and tell him to pick up my Boot Camp partition. This works. Install VMWare Tools; This works.

But the ethernet controller will not be installed in Win7.

I have uninstall the device from Device Manager and reboot, not good. I move from NAT to bridged and don't reboot, no good. I switch back, no good. I go OS type of XP and restart, not good. I switch back to Win7 x 64 and restart, not good. I switch back to NAT and restart, not good. I mount the CD of VMware tools in Win7 and I have Windows search for drivers controller ethernet, not good. I can not get the networking between the two machines to work.

    What can I try next?

    Thank you very much.

What is happening is that the virtual machine is probably failing to an AMD PCnet NETWORK eCard interface, for which neither Windows 7 nor VMware Tools has a driver for x 64 hosts. The type of virtual NETWORK adapter appropriate for the guest operating system is a device for Intel E1000 - Windows 7 provides out of the box.

Ensure that the vmx for your virtual machine file has the following line in

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

  • A product key from an old computer can be used for vmware fusion on a new mac?

We used to own a Dell computer with windows XP Professional OS. Lately, we have switched all of our Mac computers and no longer use the old windows computer. I have the product key for this OS and I was hoping to use the CD of windows XP on VMware fusion and relocation (in order to play video games). So far, the installation was almost a success until it would not accept the old operating system product key. Is there a way to get a new product key?
PS The only purpose is for the PC games we have.

can I get another free product key? I still have the old computer

you need to know if the old pc had an O E M version of windows, because

windows OEM versions are locked to the motherboard of the PC they where first installed at.

If the product key you have is from a version marketed Windows (non oem) you can install the version on another pc if you take away the first pc.

in other words, a version on a pc at the same time.

You should check with the microsoft Web site dealing with pirated software and product keys.

  • Update license key OEM for vmware fusion

I'm moving from a windows7 (64-bit Home Premium) to a Mac Book. I want to import my old PC as a virtual machine using VMware fusion.

I am trying to determine what is necessary from the point of view license.

The original license is OEM so I think that it may have an update - is just a case of getting a new license key?

I tried the update by using the update at any time of mechanism, but this no longer works

How can I get the appropriate license change to allow me to get the installed virtual machine?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Thank you for your reply and sorry for the late reply.

You can follow the procedure referred to in article of VMware Fusion below to migrate your system of operating existing for Windows 7 to your new MacBook.

Migrate a physical PC existing to a Virtual Machine.

    http://pubs.VMware.com/Fusion-4/index.jsp?topic=/com.VMware.fusion.help.doc/GUID-51A50557-6473-4053-81EC-9ACB40300FBD.html

After that, get Windows 7 successfully migrated you will need to purchase a new license Windows 7 key (rightly underlined André Da Costa, OEM licenses are linked to all first computer, you install and activate Windows on).

You need to activate your migration to Windows 7 operating system with the new license key.

You don't need to reinstall Windows 7 when you migrate your operating system on a new computer through VMware.

  • best way to get XP for vmware fusion

I have vmware fusion 3.1.3 on macbook pro. I currently have a virtual machine, I installed win 2K Server. too old, too big. I need to get xp and do an installation. I tried to make a snapshot of the existing machine, but seemed to make mistake on the OEM version and wants me register and pay as the new. I have a win 7 pro machine, I guess I could try to make instant, but I was wondering if v3.1.3 will even run that? So, what is the best way to way (see below) to get a XP installation for my installation of vmware fusion run? Fiscally constrained, won't be upgrading to fusion or pay retail for XP anytime soon.

It will be VERY difficult to get copies of legitimate retail XP more.  Most of the things on eBay is also OEM, which is not available for use of the VM.

Do not forget that you must purchase a license of said too (the version on the existing machine is probably an OEM version too).

Why not just buy Win7 on amazon or costco?

The only other option is a sort of MSDN license, but these licenses cannot be used for production purposes.

  • A separate copy of VMware Fusion by user

    Hello

I have a Mac Pro where I want two independent copies of VMware Fusion running. I thought I had two users with Admin privileges, and each with a vmware fusion facility that they own.

One will be the host of services that need to be connected all the time.

And it will be used for the test and because VMWare fusion does not revertToSnapshot operation while merger is turned on, it will turn it off (at least) before execution of the revertToSnapshot. So I can't have my servers and test virtual machines running on the same copy of VMware Fusion. (Please let me know if I'm wrong and there is a work around which will allow all on a VMWare fusion only exemplary.)

So in this case, I need two copies, VMWare seems to install so that it is available for all users on the same machine. And it doesn't seem to be a simple installation and uninstallation processes. So I (naively) thought I could package VMWare Fusion just pull on the Applications folder and put in the office he said. And then I can do it again for the other user.

    Which will work?

    Thank you

I have a Mac Pro where I want two independent copies of VMware Fusion running. I thought I had two users with Admin privileges, and each with a vmware fusion facility that they own.

To be clear, there's a merger set up by machine (for security reasons). Each user can have its own set of virtual machines.

And it will be used for the test and since VMWare fusion does not revertToSnapshot operation while the merger is on

In my view, that the control is actually if there is a lock file, not knowing if any instance of Fusion runs. If user A running virtual machine X and user B wants to return virtual machine, it should work fine (as long as there is not the virtual machine library, but that would cause problems anyway).

My understanding is that the older versions of vmrun incorrectly ignored the lock file, so if you could revertToSnapshot with Fusion race, there was a small chance of corruption.

One way would be to start the Firefox Profile Manager in each Linux instance and that it points to a profile of another Firefox installation folder, preferably one that has been customized in a satisfactory manner. You can then delete the profile by default in every Linux installation.

  • RedHat 64-bit P2V for VMWare Fusion

I need to convert a 64-bit RedHat Linux virtual physical machine, and I installed the vCenter Converter Standalone software, both on the Linux machine so that a Windows machine I have practice.  The converter on the Windows machine is able to connect, and then select the Linux as a Source, but then I get to the Destination option and he asks me a destination server.  I read in the user's guide:

NOTE for P2V of Linux, the only destination supported conversion tasks is a product of VMware Infrastructure Virtualization.

Is it simply not possible to get since Linux merger?  Or can I install a 'product of VMware Infrastructure Virtualization' temporarily for the purpose of creating a virtual machine, then copy the virtual machine to a Mac running Fusion?

    It's probably hardware not supported.

I have not personally used platespin, so I don't know if it can go directly to the Fusion 2/3 (or Workstation 6.5.x)

  • Win7 switching to Parallels Desktop 4 for VMWare Fusion 2 under Snow Leopard

    Hi guys,.

I moved my Windows 7 install Parallels to Fusion, but when I go into the Device Manager, it mentions an unknown Ethernet controller and a unknow SCSI controller. I have no network on the virtual machine, which is bad, since it's my Office desktop environment. What can I do to reinstall the NIC to a working state? When I click on it, say update driver and driver search, he found nothing. I also tried the VMWare Tools for editing and let him use the CD, but no luck it no more.

    See you soon

    Nik

It seems to me that the conversion of Parallels set up Fusion for the type to PCnet NIC. You should not need to hack around to try to find a driver for Windows 7 PCnet. Instead, try to force the virtual network adapter to be a type of map NETWORK Intel e1000 (IIRC is the default value for a virtual Vista computer). Change virtual machine (with closed merger) .vmx file, and either a) add this line, or b) change a line beginning with ethernet0.virtualDev to match:

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

and see if Windows detects the card and it combines a driver.

  • VMware Fusion/Bootcamp does not properly.

I'm under VMware Fusion 2.07 (Yes, I know version 3 came out, but money was tight) on an iMac 20 ". Mac OS X 10.6.4. I recently had the hard drive in this system upgrade, 300 GB to 1.5 TB; new installation of Mac OS X, all restored since my Time Machine backup, then installed Windows XP Home Edition, using boot camp. (300 GB partition.) So far, so good; It works well.

When I say VMware to start the Bootcamp partition as a virtual machine, it goes through the usual process, then comes up with the dreaded error message: "the Boot Camp partition is not prepared to stand as a virtual machine. It seems that Windows is not stopped properly the last time it was used. »

I tried to remove my configuration of VMware; I checked the partition tables and the types (the MBR and GUID alignment between them - as I told Windows to reformat the partition, rather than change the partitioning, it is what I expected); everything seems to be correct. I noted, however, that vmware-rawdiskCreator and fdisk print the size of the partition HFS + sub-1994391552, which seems to be strangely close (ie: bang on) an integer signed enveloping output in comparison with the tool GUID of. In exactly the same way, the beginning of the Windows partition is printed as 1993717760.

Is it possible that this affects the failure, or is it just a loophole? I'm getting a little testy (although not significant at this stage, since I can afford now space drive needed to have a separate Windows for VMware image instead of joining the two together). I have attached the vmware.log in the hope that it might be useful.

    Your muchly.

If the chkdsk command and Windows clean restart does not help, the only alternative is to force the partition to mount using the virtual machine. However, this should only serve as a last resort, since it can potentially corrupt data on the Windows file system. Make sure you have a backup of important data on the Boot Camp partition.

To force the partition to mount, you will need to replace one of the files of the virtual machine for assistance. Go to Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Resources/naos-1.0.vmwarevm/ (use right click and view the contents of the package to get inside VMware Fusion.app and Ban - 1.0.vmwarevm). Then delete (or move to a backup) the reconfig.iso of the file and replace it with the version attached to my message.

Note: this file is designed to work only with Fusion 2.0.7. Use it with newer versions will probably fail.

This should allow the reconfiguration step to cross, and Windows can perform a check disk on first boot. If it isn't, it's probably a good idea to run chkdsk /f just in case.

  • BB10 Simulator square locked screen aspect ratio on VMware Fusion/Mac

Having a problem with the BlackBerry 10 Alpha Simulator Beta for VMware Fusion 10.1 Dev / Mac OS X 10.8.2. The Simulator screen is locked to a square aspect ratio and cannot be resized. I tried to make full screen, change the zoom, which extends through OS X window, and the virtual machine upgrade, but the aspect ratio remains. See screenshot below:

This makes it a problem with our Android app worn, which is completely chewed on that square screen. The entire half bottom of the app is cut off.

On VMware Player for Windows, the screen appears like a normal phone screen:

It seems that you use different simulators.
Square one is for devices with physical keyboard. They have the screen resolution of 720 x 720.

  • A license for VMWare Player?

I saw the deal for VMWare Fusion for Mac includes a commercial license for VMWare player, so I was wondering, if I buy VMWare Fusion can I use the VMWare Player on my Windows machine license or is there a better way for me to get a commercial version of VMWare player without having to actually buy VMWare Workstation?

lzrelak wrote: I saw the deal for VMWare Fusion for Mac includes a commercial license for VMWare player

No, VMware Fusion for Mac does not include a license for VMware Player it's VMware Fusion 5 Professional, which includes the license for VMware Player for commercial use.

so I was wondering, if I buy VMWare Fusion can I use the VMWare Player license on my Windows machine

With VMware Fusion 5 professional, Yes

is there a better way for me to get a commercial version of VMWare player without having to actually buy VMWare Workstation?

To use VMware Player commercially, buy VMware Fusion 5 license Professional even one chooses or can even use VMware Fusion 5 Professional.  It comes through a convoluted cross-license that VMware has not done a very poor job of marketing and or explain and caused a lot of confusion among some users trying to interpret.

  • Windows 7 on VMware Fusion

I scoured some trail and error to install Windows 7 on my Virtual Machine. But after giving him a well-founded logical thought that I have accomplished the task. Most frequent concerns resulting was with SCSI controller problems. AFET overcome only by downloading files from the website of VMware and install in the folder C: / drive on my virtual Arena I could select it driver in the Windows 7 Installations pane and continue with the installation of the operating system.

However, I also had to ensure that the VMware Tools was up-to-date inorder to some hardware problems correct. However, there is always this problem with my computer internet setting virtual driver.

First of all you need not download any drivers SCSI from VMware to install Windows 7, if you do it right.

If by chance it was a Machine virtual Windows XP you upgraded to Windows 7 well you should not have wasted your time because Windows XP is not directly upgraded to Windows 7 and since it is a Virtual Machine, all you have to do is just to cross the new VM Wizard by selecting the version of Windows using your and if you use upgrade media then use the information contained in "[clean install Windows 7 with upgrade Media | ]. "[http://www.winsupersite.com/Win7/clean_install_upgrade_media.asp]" to the install/activate.  I use 2 method successfully.

If it's an upgrade, you can then delete the virtual Windows XP Machine after you have saved your user data and you have Windows 7 running.  CTR-click simply the target virtual machine on the Machine's virtual library and select Delete.

If you want to transfer files and settings, then take a look on:

Windows Easy Transfer for transferring from Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7

    Or

Windows Easy Transfer for transferring from Windows XP (64 bit) to Windows 7

    =========

In any case as ' However there is always this problem with fixing my VM internet pilot. "if it was an XP upgrade then this would explain and you need to change the Type of operating system to Windows 7 or Windows 7 x 64 and it can make the Virtual Machine library.  You also remove the network card under the parameters of the Virtual Machine, and then add again.  Note that you must do this with stop the Virtual Machine, not suspended.

Otherwise, take a look at the collection of information for VMware Fusion and archive and attach a copy of the configuration as well as the vmware.log file .vmx file.
