Installing Win7 on a used Dell computer

I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but I searched and could not find an answer to my exact question. I live in Washington and there are many companies that recycle computers of the federal Government. These computers are shipped to recyclers erased all the data. They should be. I work in a federal office and suffered many computers until they left my office.

Here's my question: if I buy a Dell computer among these recyclers and this computer comes with its original Win7Pro COA Dell still attached, is it legal for me to use a Dell reinstallation DVD Win7Pro back on the machine? I tried to do this year with Win XP and I came across problems where the Windows installation wouldn't take the COA code. Are there problems that I have to watch? Because I work in a store of tech I know I have a legit Dell reinstallation DVD. These generic for all Dell computers or are they specific to certain workstations?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, because he is authorized for this machine and the certificate of authenticity is attached to prove it. Just make her actually reinstall Windows 7 Professional.

I see that you are wanting to install Windows 7 on your HP laptop - 15-ac628tu. Here's the driver page for your HP for laptop - 15-ac628tu which is already preset to Windows 7 drivers available for your laptop. You will need to use your own copy of Windows CD if you bought Microsoft or another provider to install it on your laptop.

Then, you can use the drivers from the driver for HP page.

The OP is using VMware Workstation 6.5.3, and there is no option in the user interface in the virtual machine settings to increase the size of the hard drive in this version and must be done from the command line using vmware-vdiskmanager.

and the type of disc is not the IDE.

Not sure why you would say that as an IDE hard can be extended with a vmware-vdiskmanager or virtual machine settings as appropriate in future versions of VMware Workstation.  I did several times that I can remember.

Also should I format the disk file or this step is made during the Win7 installation and configuration?

There is nothing that prevents you from using the drive OEM System Builder. Even if you had the license of retail, like OEM license, you will need to do a CIW anyway.

You'll struggle to get a retail license now, and they attract a premium because of the rarity and the end of sales for October 2013.

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

    Hello

You can not legally use a license of Vista OEM Dell on your Gateway computer.

Dell license is linked to the original Dell computer it was installed on and is NOT transferable to another computer.

Microsoft sells more Vista; they sell now Windows 7.

You can find Vista sold online, but run you the risk of buying pirated software.

You can also try the local computer for the left stores more copies of Vista.

  • Can I use my Windows 7 Edition recovery disks Home Premium for a clean install on my old Windows XP computer?

Hello world!  I hope someone can help.

Can I use my Windows 7 Edition recovery disks Home Premium for a clean install on my old Windows XP computer?

If this is a recovery from a different computer disk, you are unable to do so.

In addition, if you were to format the computer, you will need to have a way to reinstall a copy of Windows with a genuine license.

The best option if you need Windows 7 Home Premium is to buy a genuine license then you can make a custom (new installation).

  • Can I legally use a win7 32-bit code pro install win7 64-bit, if I have the 64-bit disc?

Recently, I accidentally bought 32-bit win7 online for a new PC I am building. I wanted 64-bit. I have a 64-bit version of anoterh installation disk I did and was wondering if you could just use the 32-bit code to install win7 64-bit instead of having to go through the process of return together and everything. Thanks in advance for answers!

The product key is not specific to architecture (32 or 64-bit), but the spirit of the OEM System Builder licensing is, both 32 and 64 bit DVD are sold separately and include their own product key.

If its OEM license that came with a new computer, you could of course just to borrow a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit DVD retail or OEM system builder DVD and use it with your product key provided with the installation of 32-bit, and nothing would be wrong.

There are two types of OEM suppliers. Royalty OEM vendors can distribute Windows products by using the preinstallation (SLP) product keys so that end users can bypass product activations. All other OEM vendors distribute Windows products by using the standard product keys that require the user to activate Windows products.
