Internet banking security

Is free Microsoft Essentials security appropriate when you use internet banking?

Is free Microsoft Essentials security appropriate when you use internet banking?

This is only one aspect of security.  So - if you ask if that's all you need, no..

It's a start - although I recommend many more before recommending Microsoft Essentials.

Regarding AntiVirus - free are very good: Avira, AVG, Avast
You could spend ~ 60USD during two years of eSET NOD32 AntiVirus (not more - just product AntiVirus) and which would be more worthwhile.

Make sure your computer has a good word of past top (more than 15 characters), and your Bank web site password is as long and complicated as possible (and all different of others.)  At least three of the following four should be in all of your passwords: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

Not * save * a password on a website - you should be there every time.

Make sure you stay patched with the latest security updates.

  • The Internet banking site will not save my computer?

I recently got a new laptop which is running Windows 7.  It's my first experience of Windows 7 and I love it!  There are a few things that kind of upset me.  The purpose of this question is saved on my computer on a secure site.

When I log onto my site to Internet banking for the first time since a computer, he asks me if it's a public computer (do not register) or a private computer (registry).  I always rely on private computer check.  Yet, whenever I return to the site it says it didn't recogize the computer and asks me to save it by answering a security question.  It's only annoying because it's an extra step, but I don't know why it won't save my selection.  My desktop runs Windows Vista and it works fine.  At work, we always run XP, and it works fine there as well.  Why I can't make it work on Windows 7?  It's just very strange to me.

So it is clear it incase of issues, which it does from what I've read so far, I'm running Firefox 3.6.10

I hope someone can help.  Thank you!

P.S. I have a few questions if anyone wants to take a shot at those :)

Unfortunately, you have not included all the details on your system or what version of Internet Explorer you are using.

This could be because when you post a new question in the forum, you are not reminded to provide this information.

If the workstation appears in Internet explore is something new and you have not changed it, something has changed for you.  You should do a few scans for malware first and see if obvious infections are the cause of this 'new' in your Internet Explorer.

  • Do I need Internet Explorer security updates if I use Firefox?

    Hello!

I can't find an answer to this question via a Google search, so I ask you here please. I use Windows 7 and see a lot of regular updates to Internet Explorer during installation. But I never use Internet Explorer, I only use Firefox. So I wanted to know, I will put my Firefox security at risk by installing does not updates of Internet Explorer published by Windows? A flaw in one another browser affect?

    Thank you!

    Alice.

Firefox uses Internet Explorer to access the internet, but some components of Windows that Firefox needs, such as network components, could be linked with IE so that IE updates will affect them.

In addition, Internet Explorer can be used by other Windows applications to access the internet in the background.

So yes, it is strongly recommended that you keep it up-to-date.

  • Internet Explorer security update fault

I am a novice to the use of this forum, but I'll try to explain.  This morning, told me to restart my Vista 64 bit HP computer to complete the installation of some updates, and when it's over, I couldn't find my internet connection to work.  The computer is connected, but IE could not find the connection.  Working at the time, I uninstalled to each update until I found the cause of my problem, update security for Microsoft Windows KB978207.  With which is uninstalled, my IE works great.  Nobody knows what this specific update is intended to accomplish?  And since I uninstalled it, it does not work it is supposed to do, will both causing me grief in a way, that I'm not currently?

KB978207 is associated with the MS10-002 Security Bulletin (Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer): http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms10-002.mspx

Charlie, please bear with me and try the following:

1 disable all Norton 360 processes (i.e., anti-virus anti-spyware firewall; all Norton addons) and then enable the Windows Firewall.

Note: You are "working without a net" now: no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step 3 below!

2 manually run Windows Update and install important updates available, including KB978207:

Start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step). Windows Update | Look for the updates (or see the available updates)

    3. restart & make sure that all processes of Norton 360 are activated & Windows running in the background and that the firewall is disabled. (This should automatically: just that you check.)

Now, tell me if you get the "Cannot display Page" errors again or not?

Visit the Microsoft Solution Center and antivirus security for resources and tools to keep your PC safe and healthy. If you have problems with the installation of the update itself, visit the Microsoft Update Support for resources and tools to keep your PC updated with the latest updates.

What antivirus/antispyware/security products do you have on the machine? Be one you have NEVER
