Internet connection always drops

I have a new laptop running Windows 7 HP.  I have Time Warner Cable.  I keep losing my Internet connection, but 5 bars indicate that I have an excellent internet connection.  The Trouble Shooter says he can find "without problems."  Any suggestions or solutions?

Hello

Thank you for the question to Microsoft Community. I'll give my best to help you.

Description number, I understand this wireless connection constantly dropping.

To better understand the issue, answer the following questions.

1 did you changes to the computer before the show?

2 are you facing this issue from the day 1, you use windows 7?

3. What is the number of the model of the computer?

You can perform the methods suggested below and check if they will help you solve the problem.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software on the computer and check.

Disable the anti-virus software

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Check the suggestions from the following link and check to see if they help.

  • Internet connection Cox Cable & Airport Extreme

I had the last three or four months a problem with Internet cable fall suddenly. All the lights on the modem cable have no problem with the modem. The Airport Extreme base station has a green light, as well. I have to keep resetting the modem cable 3 - 4 times a day. The ISP is Cox Cable.

It affects all the iPhone, phone Android, iPad and other Apple computer, we have. All lose connectivity at the same time. If I connect to the Mac mini directly to the modem cable by the cable network the internet connection gets dropped without using the WiFi network.

1 does anyone know conflicts between modems Motorola and Apple Airport Extreme networks?

    2. what else can I check or try to fix it?

Airport Extreme: How would I test for a problem with the unit master of AE? The only thing I can think to do is reconfigure AE units and using one of the older AE devices as master and see if that makes a difference, but it's a headache to do if there is an easier way.

Our WiFi network consists of a base station Airport Extreme 802.11ac with two base stations older AE acting as slaves to the base ac station to expand the network throughout the House. All base stations are running the latest firmware from Apple (7.7.3 & 7.6.4 on two more former slaves). The light remained green for disconnects. We have previously disabled IPv6 in Airport utility on the base station to avoid potential conflicts with the Cox' months before the start of this issue of network.

Cable modem: Motorola MB 7420 - Cox says he could be the modem, so I bought a new modem cable Motorola MB7420 to replace the former Motorola cable modem - always have the same reduced connection problems. The cable modem shows any change in status or lights during connections has dropped, but only reset the cable modem seems to fix the problem. The two modems are not any lights/status change, but there is no internet connection, even if a computer is connected directly to the cable modem once the connection is released. I kept it connected and had it remove the connection to the internet again after resetting the modem (hours between the drops).

I tried to connect a computer directly to the modem cable with a network cable and had the same problem, so I thought that I had deviated from the Airport Extreme base station as the problem. Now Cox claims that something came out last week, discussing the problems with Apple routers and cable modems or their network. I can't find anything, but they are supposed to send me information later.

Coaxial connection: Cox is not finding any disconnection or time in their voting for our modem registers. We had three times to check the lines as he first seemed extremely windy Cox and had a problem before with problems connecting to the pole. Who was waived. They tested the connection between the pole and the cable modem, and we get a signal strong; some problems on the survey for our modem logs (every two hours). There is no water in the connections between the pole and the House. We have checked all the connections of the coaxial cable between the outer box and the cable modem. Cox is to revisit all connections around our House to see if they can find no evidence of a problem upstream or downstream from our part.

Network cables: I replaced network between the cable modem and AE cables as well as AE to a computer next to him - no change.

1 does anyone know conflicts between modems Motorola and Apple Airport Extreme networks?

There are at least two known issues with Cox here on Apple's Support communities:

    1. Cox started the IPv6 role. The current workaround is to configure your AirPort base stations to use IPv6: link-local only.
    2. The series of Arris/Motorola SB61XX modem is incompatible with 802.11ac AirPort base stations (potentially, 802.11n models as well.) This is not bad in themselves, they just don't "play well" together. I have not heard of all reports on the series of MB74XX... so maybe it's not the question on this point.

To test the incompatibility, check the ARP cache. It must contain only around a dozen entries. Considerably more could possibly indicate a problem.

Run the network utility > Netstat tab > select the option "Display routing table information" > click Netstat

Note: For OS X El Capitan, network utility can is located in Macintosh HD > system > library > Basic Services > Applications, OR via the Apple Menu > about this Mac... > system report > Tools menu of System Information > window > network utility

To change the IPv6 configures your airport most convenient base stations you use AirPort Utility, as follows:

    From a Mac:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the base and then station, select change.
    • Select the Internet tab and then, select Internet Options...
    • Change the IPv6 configuration to: link-local only
    • Click on save and then click Update.
    • Allow the base station restart.
    • Do this for each of your base stations.

    Starting from an iOS device:

    • Tap the AirPort Utility to run it.
    • Select the base station.
    • Press Edit.
    • Tap advanced.
    • Tap on IPv6.
    • Change the IPv6 configuration to: link-local only
    • Type actually.
  • BEFVP41 internet connection stops at least once a day (do not use DSL)

Recently started using this router and I noticed that at least once a day the internet connection is dropped and will not bounce back on until I update any random setting on the router. It's getting very annoying frickin since I work from home. I have a static IP via fiber cable directly to the House so no modem is in the way.

I have the Firmware update but apparently according to someone on this page:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/ProductReview.aspx?item=N82E16833124003

"It stopped working completely after a month. After a conversationwith a gentleman very polite to Linksys, we determined that this router comes with (v1.02.00) version thefirmware means forwireless routers! Latest firmware for the router is actually v1.01.04. »

"Much work most of the time. After using it about 2 weeks, he starteddropping the Internet and required a reboot in order toreconnect to the network. After using it about 3 months, it would be notrespond to a ping or a connection attempt, but continued to functionnormally otherwise. Currently, it can not be configured withoutrebooting and he gives a ping answer about 10% of the time. »

Same thing is happening to me so I wonder if I have a defective router or if it is that Linksys has forgotten something with the firmware. I have the last 1.02.00 on router v2.1.

Anyone know anything on this subject?

Try to reflash the firmware once more.

  • Internet connection problem, error: status WAN down.

Hello. We have a Windows 7 and a Motorola 2247-N8 wireless modem/router. Recently, our internet connection has dropped. I was able to reboot the router, but on the main login page, it says "Status WAN" is declining and the PPP username and password are empty. These two things are related? Can I do to solve this problem? Thank you.

Thanks for the information.  Your observation of the Westell modem/router is in line with what your ISP says you: your modem is assigned an IP address by a DHCP server at your ISP.

Your two pieces of equipment have in fact several parties.   Both of them have modems, which is the interface between you and your ISP.  Both of them have routers.  A router is required between the two networks; in your case, this is the Internet on one side and your local area network (LAN) on the other side.  Unit integrated Motorola also a wireless access point.

You only need one of each part: a modem, a router, and a wireless access point.

Normally, you should be able to use the Motorola device and renounce the Westell unit.  However, the unit modem Motorola seems to have a problem to connect to your ISP.  According to the User Guide, that I found for him, this unit of Motorola doesn't seem to be able to connect to the type of system used by your ISP.

You can use parts of two devices: the modem and router Westell unit and wireless point from the Motorola unit.

I'm going to assume that this is the User Guide for the your Motorola device--> http://www.arrisi.com/modems/datasheet/2247-n8/2247_user_manual.pdf

Connect an Ethernet cable between your computer and one of 4 yellow Ethernet ports on the unit of Motorola.  Open a web browser and type http://192.168.1.254 in the address bar and press enter (see page 13 operating Guide).  You may or may not assign a password for the configuration utility (you should end this) as described in step 4.  Skip steps 5 to 7.

Click the "Configure" (page 16), then click on "DHCP server".  Uncheck the box "Enable DHCP server", and then click "apply changes".  You want to disable the DHCP server in the Motorola unit because you plan to use the DHCP server in the Westell unit.

If you already haven't, go back to the configuration menu and click 'Wireless' and set "of basic wireless settings" (p. 21), you want wireless to be activated, you want the 'Standard' to be compatible with your laptop and other wireless devices (B/G/N is the most flexible; use G or N-only if you know that all your wireless devices use the same wireless standard).  I recommend uncheck Wireless Protected Setup.  "Channel" should be 1, 6 or 11 (you may or may not need to change the channel; in general, this is necessary if you live in an area where there are many nearby wireless networks, as a residential building).

In the "Wireless security" (p. 23) article Choose WPA2 if all your wireless devices support this standard. Otherwise, use WPA.  Don't use WEP or anything.  Do not 'hide the SSID' or "Block Wireless Bridging."  If you wish, enter a new name SSID (p. 24). If you do this, do not use your name or address in the SSID name.

Make sure you click on "Apply changes" once you make a configuration change.

At this point, you can exit the utility of configuration of the Motorola.

Disconnect all connected to DSL entered the Motorola phone.

Plug the phone cable between your wall socket and the entrance of LILY on the Westell unit.

Connect an Ethernet cable between the port of 'Data' at the back of the Westell unit and one of the yellow Ethernet ports on the unit of Motorola.

At this point, you should be able to access the Internet using any device connected by wifi to the Motorola unit or (b) any device connected to one of the 3 Ethernet ports yellow on the unit from Motorola which is not used to connect to the Westell unit.

    Last words:

If you created a password to access the device configuration utility (and you should), write it down on a sheet of paper and the paper to the tape drive.

The IP address, you need to use in order to access the configuration of the Westell unit unit is 192.168.1.1.  Write this on the same sheet of adhesive paper such as password and the Westell Westell unit.

The IP address, you need to use in order to access the Motorola unit configuration utility is 192.168.1.254.  Write this down on the same sheet of paper as the Motorola password and stick it to the Motorola unit.

The DHCP server in the Westell unit by default local IP addresses assignment between 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.47.  This should be more than enough.  You can check the IP address local to any computer by opening a command prompt window and typing in Windows

    ipconfig/all (press on enter)

This will show you the IP addresses assigned to all NICs (wired and wireless).  You need only be concerned with IPv4 (not IPv6) addresses.

Note that if you open a web browser and go to a site such as http://www.whatismyip.com/ , you will be able to see the IP address public attributed to your Westell modem by your ISP's DHCP server.  In this case, "public" means that all users can see at this address.  However, router Westell "cache" local to your devices IP addresses so they are not visible on the Internet.

  • L755 satellite internet connection drops but stilll connected to the network

    Hello

I hope one of you can help me. I have a laptop 13 q Satellite L755 nice for a year and a half.

My problem is that I surf the net and suddenly my internet connection drops down. On Firefox or IE, I have a message with a triangular signal yellow saying: "your connection has be revived."
I'm still waiting on my network but I can't access the internet.

The strangness, is that my family other PC or laptop have no problem on the connection.
This happens on the wifi and cable. At home or other places of connection.
In France and the United States. So my conclusion is that there is a problem with my laptop.

I looked around some forums. It seems that some have a problem with IPv6.
I have disabled the option to use IPv6 on my laptop, but I still have the problem.

Another comment: I play the Kingdom of the fortress online.
Sometimes I disconnect from this game but I can still surf the internet for a few minutes before undergoing a total disconnection.

    Looking forward for your help.

As this happens using WLan and LAN its really hard to say why your connection is interrupted.
Have you tested the internet connection with fresh preinstalled system?
I mean it is possible that some software / updates received or installed in the past it would affect.

I tried all methods to resolve this problem, dns flush, back, ip address, update driver... I have even to connect my laptop to a dongle wireless usb to see if it's a hardware problem, but same result. I tried to connect to another wifi network but also the problem remains.

It is possible, if the original malware file is on another drive or partition, then when the file is available the malware can reassert himself on the BONE, unfortunately malware detection is not 100% effective, it is generally recommended to use several malware programs, I generally recommend malwarebytes first that it is one of the best After that I also use spybot search and destroy

  • Internet connection drops

The OS is El Capitan 10.11.3 on both my MacBook Mid 2010 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR & iMac 21.7 end 2012 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5 8 BG 1600 MHz DDR3, connection to the internet with the 5th generation Airport Extreme. The internet connection drops without model except that diagnosis shows a cable ethernet disconnected between the Airport Extreme and the ISP modem. I can install an older Airport Extreme I replaced about 4 years ago because there was no support for WPA security with the same Ethernet cable and the connection does not fall. I can also plug the MacBook with the power cord and connect via Ethernet. Is it possible that the Ethernet WAN port for the modem to ISP is down? The reason why I ask is that I install the older airport with the same ethernet cable. (I have other cat5 cables, but none of them are cross-cable as the cable provider ISP) I don't want to leave the network upward with the old airport because I have no security.  I price a new Airport Extreme and a cable crossed, but I'd feel better spending the money if I can be pretty sure that the 5th generation extreme is a failure. Anyone have any ideas?

Some modems are more problematic that others... you must tell us the details.

This modem you have, make and model please?

You don't show us the summary for the AE, but if you run 7.6.4 firmware, it is less stable with some modems than previous 7.6.1 (this is why the old AE does not fall).

Please firmware downgrade to the AE to 7.6.1. For this, hold down the option key while clicking on the version number of the existing firmware. A list... Select 7.6.1 (DO NOT USE 7.6.3. it is poor..).

The latest version of AC AE is even worse... so I recommend you to buy a different brand of router... you can continue to use EI as WAP, as long as you take on their track, it should work ok.
