Interruptions vCenter SNMP

This is my first post.

It seems that vCenter may not have sent this trap:

  1. ESX.problem.vmsyslogd.Storage.Failure

error

VC

  1. ESX.problem.vmsyslogd.Storage.Failure | Logging of storage has failed. Newspapers are more locally stored on this host.
    Since 5.0 Reference

How can I check if a trap has been sent?

Where can I configure which traps are sent or not, or vCenter sends all the traps all the time?

Thank you

Luis

SNMP traps will be normallt triggered by an alarm. In order to check any alarm has been generated.

    Gang-

I try to get my vCenter alarms to send traps SNMP for SNMP Manager/receiver so we can automatically open the service tickets based on certain types of vCenter alarms.  I have loaded MIB and OID translate for VMWARE-VC-EVENT-MIBs.

Everything goes well and using the free utility TrapReceiver I'm able to test receive interrupts.

    Here's my problem...

I don't know how vCenter is differentiate the name of alarm vCenter in trap data.  Some vCenter alarms/traps, I want my ticket system to open lower or higher priority tickets, so I need to figure out how vCenter translated the alarm at the "vmwVpxdObjValue" into the trap.  Unfortunately I can't find any information on how to translate this value and I don't want to wait for all my events to trigger production, just to get a sample, so I don't know what to expect.

    Any ideas?

Well shoot - that isn't quite right either.

Seems that if it is a fault of the alarm system, the TRAP will leverage the value of $alarm.extensiondata.info.systemname as the beginning of the vmwVpxdObjectValue data.

If it is a user/custom alarm, it seems to refer to the value of $alarm.extensiondata.info.name.

I have to have a script that includes both.

  • Rerouting of interruptions SNMP port 162 to the port above 1024

    Hello

I have to re - route SNMP traps received at the port 162 to some other port higher than 1024 (2041 for example). There is an application that sends SNMP traps for the port 162 and our application running on Windows listen to SNMP interruptions on port 2041, so we want road/winger pitfalls in-house port 162 to 2041.

I've been watching rules defined in "Windows Firewall with advanced security", but not in a position to succeed. I noticed that there is a predefined SNMP interruptions rule but it does give me an option to transfer trapped on another port. I tried to create a new rule, but as me is not an option to change the port.

    Help, please.

    Hi Gupta,

The question you posted would be better suited in TechNet community you are trying to deploy an application to the Windows installation.

  • SNMP Configurations require vCenter?

I am running vCenter on top a pair of cluster 2 ESXi hosts 4.1.0u3.  I have configured the Protocol SNMP configurations is vCenter to point to our appropriate receiver.

A few questions come to mind with this, can someone enlighten me please!

Although the SNMP configuration is applied in the vCenter settings, they need to be configured on each host ESXi?  If so, how it works?

On a separate scenario (has nothing to do with the above), I have 2 ESXi hosts running ESXi 4.1.0u3 - but they are not in a cluster and do NOT contain a vCenter Server.

How can I go about configuring SNMP for each of these individual ESXi hosts?

-Could we perform the upgrade from vcenter without interrupting the view vmare machines?

-During the upgrade, will be the loose connection to their machines?

-During the upgrade, the user will be able to authenticate, start their machines?

    1: Yes

    2: no

    3: no

4: depends on what policies of power you are using.  Since vCenter is going to be offline you won't be able to start and stop machines.  The best thing is to change your feeding strategy for always under tension and ensure that all machines are available during the interview of vCenter.

My ultimate goal is to write a script which check SNMP on each host ESXi in a vCenter.  I noticed vmwarevSphereSecurityHardeningReportCheck.pl does not collect information either.  Any help?

    Hello

vicfg-snmp is supported only when running against an ESXi host, it is not supported when you connect to vCenter Server and that's why when you run my script Security Hardening against vCenter, there is no info. You need to run directly against a host to get the SNMP details. The reason for this is that the snmpSystem for a host is not accessible via the vSphere API when connecting to vCenter Server

  • Problem with WLC and a 3rd-party NMS SNMP AP Assoc/cancellation interruption

    Hello

I'm troubleshooting an issue, why our NMS is not able to automatically clear an alarm generated trap of an AP that has been separated and is associated with again.

When debugging on the WLC snmp trap generation, I discovered that when the AP disassociates the WLC sends the trap of bsnAPDisassociated , which is perfectly defined and I can also find in the SNMP Object Navigator. However when the AP reassociates again the WLC sends the ciscoLwappApAssociatedtrap.

Part 3 NMS is not able to understand it, but our WCS system does, that's why I then took a peek in the MIB file installed.

I discovered that ciscoLwappApAssociated is a sheet of ciscoLwappApMIBNotifs (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.513.0. 4), which I have neither

Cannot be found in the Cisco SNMP Object Navigator or the downloadable MIB.

As the MIB in the WCS is a XML file I didn't how to get information in the 3rd-party NMS.

Anyone have any idea on how to solve this problem or there at - it update CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB available somewhere?

Our WLCs are running the latest version of the software (7.0.116.0) as well as our WCS (7.0.172.0)

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards

    Patrick

Such discrepancies sometimes occur. Best is a matter of TAC in order to tackle the problem through a bug or have a new MIB published on cisco.com if necessary

  • VCenter automatically restores the SQL DB connectivity after interruption?

We run vCenter 4.1 on WIndows 2008 R2. vCenter uses a separate server running SQL2008 database.

The database server recently had interview and restarted. I guess it was down for 5-10 minutes at most. After SQL server has been for some time, I was still unable to connect and was forced to restart the vCenter server to restore connectivity. This has happened both production vCenter (physical server) and the vCenter lab (VM). Both use the same external SQL Server.

If it's normal, I'll just add a pre - req for the vCenter before DB updates, but wanted to check that others experience the same behavior.

    Hello.

I'm following the same practice as Troy here.  I saw vCenter sometimes survive a reboot of the db and other times not.  For me, the incompatibility is unacceptable and I plan accordingly.

    Good luck!

  • vROps breaks SNMP > outgoing

    Hello

Is it possible to configure vROps SNMP alerts to go to different destinations depending on the vCenter or registered in vROps or make Cluster alerts all have to go to one destination?

For example, I want a vCenter UK to draw attention to a UK SNMP destination and tell a vCenter or cluster HK to send alerts to a different SNMP destination saying in Hong KONG.

Not been able to find the answer online yet.

    See you soon

    John

Ah found my own answer, so that you can configure SNMP Trap destinations, you cannot filter at the end of vROps, so all destinations will get SNMP interruptions.

Can filter only the Notifications using SMTP or REST - what is pretty cool, but not what I needed.

  • Configure SNMP source for the events of HW for IPMI sensors

Us run Dell hardware and tested OMSA installed on ESXi5 hosts pointing to OpenManage (OME) Essentials for any interruptions SNMP. As indicated in the following Dell FAQ for OME the 9.5 troubleshooting section, to avoid massive amounts of alerts unknown on the server of the OME from our hosts ESXi5 we define the SNMP CIM for IPMI event source.

If someone knows a way to do this, I would like to know how it is possible.

    Thank you.

I think I knew that.  It seems that you have to connect directly to the ESXi host nothing to do with SNMP still, but if someone knows a way to avoid this, I'd love to hear it.  But this seems to work at the same time, but would need to change to more than one host at a time.

    ## Script function: Modify SNMP source for hardware events
    ## Usage: Connect to vCenter where host(s) reside, populate constants below and run

    ## Credentials for ESXi host(s)

  • Changing the SNMP service

I'm looking for som support in how to use Vcenter Configuration Manager 5.3 to change the name of the community, the destination of interruption and the security settings on the SNMP services on all of our Windows servers. I found this setting in the registry keys, but I do not see the destination of interruption. It is the only way to change SNMP settings or is there another way to do it?

Two things to look at. First of all, the machine you are using your base line to ensure that it is configured correctly and that all the settings that you want are set manually. Second, make sure your filter sampling is pulling back enough data. If you use the default filters for the registry, I think they'll only 3 levels deep. My suggestion would be to create your own custom for SNMP filter. It would be a collection filter registry start set path to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP and to the collect at the level I would have put to all the. Remember with the new filter and you should start to see all the parameters.

Regarding the change of in bulk, if you just add to an existing Setup or change existing settings that can be easily done through the console once you get the filters to work. If you have no parameters or completely change their I did it by exporting a well-known registry and then key to deploy using a remote control. I then clean goes back through the console to remove the old keys that are no longer needed. Another tip which may help to ensure that everything is gettting the right settings is to create groups of computers for the settings you want. So if you add a key, you can create a machine group of all systems that do not have the key.

  • What necessary SNMP MIB file

Does anyone know where I could find information (MIB) machine for Toshiba MFP devices file. I googled had and checked the predominant sites for these types of files. I'm looking to get the OID for an eStudio-600 so I can configure the SNMP interruptions for alerts of toner and paper jams.

  • SNMP monitoring

    Hello

I want to do a SNMP Monitoring via Foglight.

When I looked in the forum, found a carton of integration for SNMP monitoring interruptions.

But I want to make the attraction SNMP to get the values and process.

Any cartridge available for her. How can this be achieved.

    TX, Jenn.

I tend to solve this problem with an Agent of the Foglight Script. Below is an example of code for Linux.

Store the lines in a file (for example snmpOIDAgent.sh).

Look at the code and adjust where public SNMP string of community and host name or ip address. Then test it manually from a shell prompt until you are satisfied.

Load the script into Foglight via Administration > tools > Script Agent Builder. Then deploy and create a real agent to a Linux based FglAM (i.e. Foglight Agent Manager).

Start the agent, check its logfile (via the GUI Foglight). Then you will find its metrics/data via the creation of a custom dashboard and the tabdata"rectifier Panel under:

Administration server > all Agents (search for your agent!) > Nom_agent > Tables

Then use your drag and drop skills Foglight :-) See also some videos on edocs.quest.com > some version > use and Foglight management > creating custom dashboards.

    Have fun. Bart

Below an updated version of the script, to manage a better timeout.
