vicfg-snmp fails against vCenter

I have vCenter 5.0.0 build 455964 and ESXi 5.0.0 build 702118.

I used

vicfg-snmp - Server esx-1 - user name root - c public - enable to configure SNMP on one of my hosts.

Enter the password:

I can show the settings with

vicfg-snmp - Server esx-1 - username root s

Enter the password:

Current settings of the SNMP agent:

Targets of notification:

When I try to show the seetting using vCenter and vihost it fails.

vihost - vicfg-snmp esx - 1.example.com - server vcenter - 1.example.com - username Administrator s

Enter the password:

SNMP system is not available on this system.

My ultimate goal is to write a script which check SNMP on each host ESXi in a vCenter.  I noticed vmwarevSphereSecurityHardeningReportCheck.pl does not collect information either.  Any help?

Hello

vicfg-snmp is supported only when running against an ESXi host, it is not supported when you connect to vCenter Server and that's why when you run my script Security Hardening against vCenter, there is no info. You need to run directly against a host to get the SNMP details. The reason for this is that the snmpSystem for a host is not accessible via the vSphere API when connecting to vCenter Server

    ===============================

I have found that the option - enable command creates another firewall rule called "dynamicbinding" even if SNMP is already created by deault on own insall of ESXi 5.0 (I'd do it role it back and use PowerCLI to activate it).

    vicfg - snmp.pl - esx01 - username root - password aaaaaaaaaaaa - disable

    # Activate SNMP using PowerCLI (to connect to the host, not vCenter)

    Get-VMHostSnmp | Game-VMHostSnmp - TargetCommunity 'anothercommunity' - 'mysnmptarget2.fqdn' TargetPort TargetHost - 162 - AddTarget

In addition, on DELL hardware, I have found that for traps to be translated correctly "EnvEventSource" must change indications to the sensors.

    This will change

vicfg - snmp.pl - the esx01 - username root of the server - sensors - hwsrc password aaaaaaaaaaaa

    Then, you can send a trap to test;

    vicfg - snmp.pl - esx01 - username root - password aaaaaaaaaaaa - test

    See you soon,.

  • Notification of failed Direct debit payment

Is it possible to control which admin users receive notification of 'Payment by Direct debit has failed' when a periodic invoice fails against the stored credit card? I don't see any way to customize the email itself, or what workflow that he uses.

You can not or control anything with that. Its really annoying that all users no matter what role they are assigned are getting these emails... absolutely not realistic.

  • vicfg-orders are not

    Hi dhanarajramesh,

vicfg-* commands are not part of the ESXi 5.0 installation. You need VMware vSphere CLI (vCLI). This must be installed on a client computer running Windows or Linux OS.

    You can download this from:

    https://my.VMware.com/group/VMware/details?downloadGroup=VCLI50U1&ProductID=229

Below of KB has a few examples of how using the vicfg-snmp commands to configure SNMP on ESXi host.

  • pass fails with a missing resource pool alert

Hi, I have a server dell power edge r510, with ESXi 5.0 is installed in it.

in one of the virtual machines within this server, I installed Vcenter (I think that it is Version 5.1) everything was stable until the vcenter database gets 10 GB and crashed and I couldn't fix it. So I installed a new windows with vcenter 5.5 inside vps. and for this new vcenter reconnected to the server. so, I've reconfigured resource pools and VPS users again in this new vcenter.

Watch ESXi host now as does not not to the vcenter. but all virtual machines inside the esxi server work without problems.  I can't reconnect to the host in vcenter, and I can't connect directly to the ESXi via vsphere client and root password.

but I can log on to the esxi via ssh or console.

from the console, I restarted the management services, but it does not help.

the SSH, I ran the following commands:

    status /etc/init.d/vpxa #.

    vpxa is running

    status /etc/init.d/hostd #.

    pass is not running.

When I restart pass, it is said has started, but after a few minutes still pass fails.

then I started reading the server logs and found this error output of vm-support: hostd.log

How can I change the list of resources of the VM to ssh when esxcli do not work?

I am facing this problem recently, almost all the 5 days the server will respond is not in vcenter, restart the entire esxi server can solve the problem but it apears again.

I think that resource in vcenter pools doesn't sync properly with the configuration of esxi, as when I connect to the server directly with root/vshpere it shows different configuration than what I see in vcenter!

and I can't upgrade esxi host because there are about 10 VPSes important and stable running on this server which is my main server and I can not have time on this server or migrate virtual machines to a different server/IPs.

because I'm not sure of the compatibility of the versions of drivers/bios nic with ESXi 5.5 and I fear that if I update the ESXi from 5.0 to 5.5 I face other questions strangers/downtime.

I had the server up and running again, by editing this file: /etc/vmware/hostd/pools.xml

then I found the VPS with id of the pool of resources 11 evil, changed for another pool of resources as the other virtual machines.

    2014 07-29 T 08: 38:52.64965Z

    2

    pool366

    and then made a

    restart the /etc/init.d/hostd

all started working again without restarting the whole esxi server and turn off virtual machines, I have searched for about 1 day to solve this simple thing!

even once when I made a few changes in the vcenter, and then restarted resource pool settings move it in ssh, it fails under vcenter changed the VM resource for a bad configuration pool.

so I changed the resource pool manually xml and restarted spend, while vcenter can connect to the esxi host.

then vcenter, again removed all the resource pools and created new resource pools. and this question of time is set.

There was some resource pool configuration that was imported from esxi host to vcenter which was no longer available and has not been deleted in syncronizations between esxi and vcenter when changed resource pools. and the list of the missing resources caused problems.

  • Dell VRTX + vCenter 5.5 + Shared storage is ESXi host import issue in vCenter. Help, please!

    All,

I have two VRTX to be used for lab purposes that I am currently in configuration.

Blades feature 4 VRTX with a shared storage infrastructure. Each blade has 5.5 installed on ESXi.

I configured the shared on the VRTX storage, and all the blades can go very well.

The question I'm currently facing is when you add the vCenter for managing ESXi hosts.

Add the first host goes without a hitch. However, add any later host fail, because vCenter finds datastore attached hosts to have the same identifier.

The error message is (see the attached screenshot): ' Datastore 'Main Shared-storage' is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (ds: / / vmfs/volumes/xxxxx /), but is supported by different physical storage.

Someone knows how to fix this?

    Thank you.

    Thanks for the reply.

I think that I have found a workaround.

First of all, this link does not address my particular issue.

See, it's a whole new vCenter device installation and configuration. Only one of the four hosts to add host has been added.

Still, the problem is that each ESXi host is a blade VRTX (M620), which has access to the data store created on the shared storage of VRTX.

Basically, each host is editing the data store shared even (the only data store created on the shared storage), which works very well except for vCenter complain when you import the hosts.

In any case, my resolution was as follows:

-Add the first host with the attached and mounted data store

-Remove the data store and detach the controller shared by other guests before adding in vCenter

-Re-attach the controller shared and set up the data store via vCenter once guests have been added

-Re-configure each host for vSphere HA if necessary

    Thank you.
