Invasion of privacy

I remember the fair that came in my hometown every fall. You can get in most emissions aside for a penny. You have been lead to believe that you could see what was inside this tithe. Not the case. This tithe just you through the door. Once inside, it cost a quarter, a half dollar or a dollar to actually see anything.

This practice was dishonest? Was - this lure? It may be borderline on these two points. One thing is sure, though... It wasn't easy, it was not ethical, and it was certainly not indicative of the type of moral values, I want taught to my grandchildren.

I get an email saying that I need to upgrade my Skype account. I go through the steps. I noticed that, without my permission, my name of the city has been gleaned in my IP address and published as part of my icon. This is not good.

I decide that if a city name should be displayed, I'd rather it be my hometown, where more people know me. So, I click on "Edit profile" to change the name of the city. This tithe to get in just changed for a dollar. I'm not allowed to change my name of the city, unless I get a family name. I see this as bait and a form of entrapment. It wasn't easy, it was not ethical, and it was certainly not indicative of the type of moral values, I want taught to my grandchildren.

If I can't even change my profile without being cohersed to do something I'd rather not do, I will not go further in Skype. Who knows what elses there for those lies people p T Barnum said are born every minute?

Thank you, but this isn't worth it. I can't close my account, at least not without hassle. If Skype can keep empty my account and I can unsubscribe to emails from Skype. Remove Skype on my computer, including the registry. I think we can live with that.

Best regards

  • Pots of support Invasion of Privacy - claims to be approved by Microsoft - threats to computer security

This afternoon, I received a phone call suspect of someone (very strong Indian accent) claiming that he was of pots in charge who had allegedly approved support for Windows Microsoft firmware. He knew the details of our name and contact information. He was trying to tell me that we downloaded unintentionally viruses on your computer and tell us how to solve this problem. The alarm sounded at the beginning, but my main concern,'s done it how this organization to take our details. I am a very careful person when it comes to my personal life. Out of curiosity (as I was convinced that appellant was based abroad), I asked where he was calling from... He claimed to Adelaide. When asked what part of Sdelaide, he said, the southern. I asked an address and all he could give me was St Johns. He said the phone wasn't (08) 70041212. If it were Adeéaid the number would have started with 8 not a 7. I have no intention of ever letting anyone to have remote access to any computer, and I noticed since at least that someone else had known the call of the scam. So, is this able to report, and how do I protect our coordinates so that these stupid people (saying that he well :-)) not wasting my time again.

  • (Redirected) Poor Dell technical support

My modem was replaced in mid-December.  So I had difficulties to connect to my printer wirelessly to my Dell laptop.  I contacted the technical support Dell - main error.  After a price of $199.99 and five hours on the phone with them for two days, it still didn't work.  I not ask for their return.  At the end of the 1st phone call (3-4 hours), they thought they had everything and test printed a Notepad doc.  At one point the tech support rep placed me on video without asking if I was ok with that.  Total invasion of privacy!  Later in the day when I tried to print I got "paper mismatch".  Most of the paper size options were in millimeters.  The next day I called the technical support again.  He wanted to redo everything that had been done the day before.  After about an hour I told him that I have more time to deal with him, I was on a deadline.  I had to drive to my work to print the information that I needed.  Following all the delays caused by Technical Support, I did not finish my work until 02:00 I have not never will contact Tech support again.  I will use a local person.  I expect Dell to have a support department impressive considering the quality of their computer products.  Worst customer service I have ever received.

  • From iPhone to Blackberry classic classic BlackBerry? My experience.

I've been on Mac and iPhone for years.  I got a classic in August 15.  Here is some information for anyone who is planning to escape from the garden of Apple.  Don't forget - I have a Mac - Yosemite10.10.5.  I use for 3G iPhones.

If you have a Mac there are very little useful Office support.  BlackBerry link works, but can not connect and synchronize music, photos or videos on your Mac.  There is no synchronization Mac calendar and contacts via Blackberry connected via USB link (a USP for me - I don't like my stuff in the cloud).  When I called help BB that they it has blamed on Apple and say that they have no intention to get link BB works with Mac. It is shameful that the BB site is still claiming that Mac users can sync calendars, contacts, music, photos and videos using the BB link.  That's all just a lie.  If the music, photos and video synch is important to you, then you are shagged.  BB link is useful only for backup and restoration of your BB classic.

Calendar and contacts must be synchronized via iCloud - that works well.  Except BB Cal don't pull in iCloud anniversaries and BB Cal pull in Contacts birthdays.   If you have spent important birthdays putting time in Contacts then you wasted it BB are concerned.

Despite the hype, I think BB mix is pretty useless.  If you write a lot of text (I have not), then the ability to write using your Mac keyboard might be useful.  All my mail is IMAP, so it is already on my Mac and I need to see it on my BB at the same time.  The thing is useful that could be so alert were mixed (for example, to open the app Footy results and get alerts on my desktop, now that the sky Flash application is dead) - but the mixture of BB alerts do not work on the desktop - same thought there is a checkbox to enable them.

Theoretically, the mixture is useful for copying stuff between Mac and BB classic.  Link cannot sync things, but the mix allows you to transfer files between Mac and BB classic - a SINGLE FILE at a TIME.  You cannot drag and drop directories.  So if you have 20 GB of music - say 5000 songs in 300 directories - you will need to create the directories on the BB one by one and drag the music files on one at a time.  Apparently, no member of BB thinks that this is not a stupid feature.

To transfer (not synch) files, you can configure the classic BB in USB mode and, sometimes, it appears in the Finder when it is plugged in via USB and you can drag and drop to BB or SD memory.  The classic BB to appear in the Finder is fairly random and, frankly, a PITA.  There is no correlation between the BB being in USB mode or not and if she appears in the Finder — and I gave up with it.   I just remove the memory card, put in a converter and put it in the Mac.  The downside is you have to before BB classic feeding cycle he will probably see the new files (this is slooooow) and then the apps (podcast app, music app, etc.) will be another age to read all data.

Apps?  The most frustrating is that productivity applications and businesses are very thin on the ground for a device traditionally intended for professional users - both BB and Amazon store.  I am an entrepreneur.  I do not play games or do ny social networking stuff.  Apps that I used every day on iPhone are the map time, expense reports, ToDo.   On iPhone, I used HT Pro, iExpensit, Appigo ToDo, Notes on Mac - and I have used them happily for years.  There are no apps for BB approaching these in terms of usefulness.  I've got MyTimesheet classic (not bad - but buggy and dev. ignores emails), Manager of charges (banking something I have to jerk off in Excel for expenses, I can add to bills), ToodleTasks (OK - but no subtasks without subscription) and BB via Evernote notes (OK - but he refuses to sync on a regular basis and the account must be deleted and recreated and re-synchronized every day).  The lack of business utility/productivity applications surprises me.

Other applications that I used a lot (at least once a week) on the iphone-
TripIt - not available for classic BB.  BB trip is sort of OK, but there is sod-all useful calendar integration.
Search results for SkySports Footy and Cricket;  There is nothing that comes close to that I found for BB. I use FotMob but it's flaky.
Podcasts - I never thought that I would have good things to say about the iPhone for the podcast, which has got to be the PoS greatest that Apple have ever produced, but it's a miracle bloody compared to the best of BB - I think that this is bPod - but I listen to podcasts much less now I have the classic BB I did on the iPhone.  It's so hard to manage.
MetOffice weather - not available for classic BB.
AeroWeather - not available for classic BB.
    FlightRadar 24 - NAFBBC.
    eBay - NAFBBC application.
    Amazon App - NAFBBC (!)
    Album Shuffle - NAFBBC
All four of my banking applications - NAFBBC
WiFi BT and Cloud Fastconnect profiles for automatic connection - NAFBBC.  It is a real pain.  The iPhone is just used to connect - good wifi roaming. The BB has to go through the log of the web page every time.

In addition, many apps install without options for privacy and access.  Most BB applications allow you to choose whether to share contacts, location, etc.  If you load via Amazon App Store and many of them give you the same option with Android - i.e. accept any invasion of privacy or do not install the application.

Battery life is looking pretty * beep * for the moment.  I charge it all night and it turns in the economy of the battery in about 1800 - but I've spent a lot of time looking for applications and try to make things work.  If all goes well he will settle after a bit, but it does much better than the iPhone 6.

Of course, I could have to research a bit more before I bought it - and it was a bit of a bargain.  The keyboard is great.  I think that it is more productive than the iPhone to take care of things on the road.  It is much more robust and portable in the pockets of jeans than the iPhone 6.  It has a nice heft.  He got a memory card.  I love the hub.  It's more like a phone than the iPhone (but all also deaf).  It fits in my jacket pocket.  Apart from that, I fight to find something nice to say about it.  I'll give it a go a little longer, but I think after Christmas (or when I've missed someone important birthday!)  I'll be back in the garden of the Apple, the BB will have my SIM of emergency inside and will collide on in the glove compartment in case where...

I have 4 email accounts.   I've got Android applications.  No NFC - not supported by one of my banks.  WiFi on.  No 4g. Bluetooth that on when I need.

Thanks for the tips on reboot, but the classic went to the trash.  Tomorrow I'll be back with my iPhone 6.  I'll be able to sync my music and podcasts again - and I'll be able to hear when I play (the classic volume is too low).  I'll have regained access to my bank accounts and credit cards.   I'll be able to make my expenses and timesheets and sync with my Mac Notes again. I'll be able to back up the phone again.   I won't have to carry the card paper, a notebook and pen and an iPod and a calculator.  And a backup phone.   It will be like putting in the 21st century.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Foursquare App - trying to access my location

Please help, I have not downloaded the app Foursquare on my phone (nor even looked on App World) but suddenly the Foursquare application is to appear on my screen and asking to access my location - there is a tab to allow or deny but when hit 'decline', nothing happens-I can't access my phone as long as the Foursquare application for access is on the screen.   I can't use my phone at all nor access to all information about my phone such as contacts, e-mails, etc.  The only way to remove it and use my phone is to take the battery out and perform a forced reboot.  Shortly after, the same request for Foursquare to access my sites is on my screen - I didn't load the application and do not want.  Surely, it is an invasion of privacy?

Please advise how can I get rid of this application to access my phone (Blackberry 9720) tent?  As every time that it is on my screen of my phone is blocked and I can't use at all and by removing battery and reboot I get rid of it is temporary!

    Please urgent help.

    Thank you very much

First of all, we need to get you access to your phone without Foursquare arise so let's start your phone Safe Mode. Cut completely from your phone, and then when you restart, press and hold your 'Back' button (to the right of the trackpad) until your phone is fully charged upwards. Do not let go of it until your phone is ready to use; your phone will then be Mode without failure and load only the applications that are necessary for your phone to operate.

Then, we must find the app and to get rid of him in order to find your list of Applications. I don't know which OS you're running but following Options > device > management applications (or similar) will take you to your list. Find Foursquare, highlight it with your mouse, press the menu key and select Remove. Once you have got rid of him, reboot your phone with the power button.

Let us know if that helps you.

  • Windows 10 replaces Adobe apps with Microsoft applications.  Is this legal?

My laptop updated my Windows 10 version 10 version 1511 and entered my settings private and changed my Adobe to Microsoft document viewer.  Seems to me they're trying to get out the image by changing my settings to use Microsoft Adobe.  I know that if I were Adobe, I'd be very sorry with private parameters them of people with access to remove the ability of Adobe to open documents for users who have specifically chosen Adobe for this function.  It took me hours to put the changes that they facts back to the way I wanted to.  I asked Microsoft on a chat line on the subject twice, and they me disconnected both times.  It seems that they don't like people like me questioning their invasion of privacy.   Is this legal?  Doesn't seem fair.

You should be able to restore the preferences for the type of PDF viewerl

I have seen this with Microsoft Edge and all I had to do was launch IE or Edge parameter allows to open the URI in IE.

Adobe and Microsoft have been Duel for years. It's cheaper, not to enter a legal action. If Adobe means any chance of legal victory, it will very probably ben in the EU where Microsoft has already lost a suit of restraint of trade, but given that Microsoft provides another Microsoft Viewer could not be convicted.

I would rather see the money go to development, and not into the pockets of the order of advocates

  • BlackBerry Bond in privacy and the upgrade of the OS

So I upgraded the OS on my jump, only to find a very invasive Amazon application that obviously cannot be deleted.  The whole point of an unlocked phone is to avoid this kind of applications.  Is to return to the old operating system, possible to get rid of this?

    Hi @brkingsley

If you wish you can possibly turn off Amazon Apps using Parental controls

    To do this, perform the following steps;

    1. Go to settings
    2. Go to security and privacy
    3. Go to Parental controls
    4. Enter your existing password or set a new password if it's the first time that you have used Parental controls
    5. Disable the Apps from Amazon

This will disable and prevent the use of the Amazon Appstore, or the icon of the Amazon store.

If you re-enable the Apps from Amazon, you will be asked to set permissions again at how much you can possibly disable them completely.

    Thank you!

We learned earlier this year that Toshiba had probably a fault his ' voice command TV that once activated not only listening microphone orders presented, but in fact could and transmitting sounds, voices, conversations for Toshiba...   I have Siri also a security risk?  Just curious, because we lost so much freedom of privacy already of course, we do not want to add to that, gladly... and of course was not interested in inviting Big Brother into our home...

    Any ideas?  Thoughts?

If you are paranoid on the subject, then turn off Siri.

You can not. However, I'm not sure why you think it's a privacy or security threat. The only thing that can be accessed without unlocking the phone is the camera to take pictures. No one can access your data already on the phone.

    Hello dogsandcats,
Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I understand your message that you are not able to activate location Services within the parameters of security and privacy on your Mac. I know how it is important for you to be able to turn on location Services. When you go to System Preferences, then Security & Privacy, make sure you click on the padlock at the bottom left and type your admin password. Then you should be able to turn on location Services.

On location in OS X and Safari Services

    Activation of location Services

Follow these steps to turn on location services in Mountain Lion OS X or later

    1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu.
    2. Click the Privacy & Security icon in the System Preferences window.
    3. Click the Privacy tab.
    4. If the icon of padlock in the lower left corner is locked (), click on it and enter an admin name and password to unlock ().
    5. Select location Services.
    6. Check the box "enable location services".

    Best regards.
