invited on a host 32 bits 64 bits allows > 2 GB of RAM

Hello world

I was wondering if all the RAM 2 GB > can be accessed by a 64 bit COMMENTS such as Vista or Windows 7 current running on a 32-bit host (Windows XP PRO) when the machine is say 6 or 8 GB of RAM. The host is limited I know to 2 GB with the 32 bit OS, but the CTE of the CPU virtualization allows 64-bit machine comments see more than the 2 GB sees the host.

The documentation is clear on what is happening here.

See you soon

Jimbo

The maximum of the memory of a host that allows the host depends on the amount of memory physical host OS kernel can answer.

In your specific case, Windows XP is only able to see 4 GB of memory (although in reality, the amount is less due to the configuration of the chipset... I saw nowhere to 3.75 GB 2.75 GB available).

Linux 32-bit and 32-bit Windows Server editions can go up to 64 GB of RAM to home because drivers use an EAP.  64-bit operating systems have no limits.

OK, so this question was asked to me.   We received a new chassis for a blade/SAN solution for free.   The new chassis will be our recovery site and will support 64-bit of the blades (unlike our last production version).    We currently have 32-bit hosts in production with all the 32-bit guests and we intend to put 64-bit blades in the new chassis if we can migrate it 32-bit guests.   What I read 32-bit guests are supported on a 64-bit host but can migrate us host 32-bit to 64-bit host?

It is still too early, so if it's coherent hike or you need any clarification please let me know.

While 4 GB is the limit for 32-bit client SKUS, the effective limit is actually lower and depends on the chipset of the system and the devices connected. The reason is that the physical address plan includes not only the RAM but memory of the camera as well, and x 86 and x 64 memory card all the unit below the limit to address 4 GB to stay compatible with 32-bit operating systems that do not know how to handle addresses above 4 GB. If a system has 4 GB of RAM and devices, such as video, audio and network cards that implement windows in their memory of the apparatus which amount to 500 MB, 500 MB of the 4 GB of RAM will reside above the limit to address 4 GB, as shown below:

The result is that, if you have a system with 3 GB or more of memory and you use a 32-bit Windows client, you may not be to the benefit of all of the RAM.  On Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista RTM, you can see how many RAM Windows facing it in the Properties dialog box system, page Manager's performance of tasks and, on Windows XP and Windows Vista (including SP1), in Msinfo32 and Winver utilities. On Windows Vista SP1, some of these places changed RAM installed, rather than RAM available, such as documented in this Knowledge Base article .

On my laptop 4 GB, when it is started with Vista 32-bit, the amount of physical memory available is 3.5 GB, as seen in the Msinfo32 utility:

Yes, you must go to 64-bit to use all the RAM.

32-bit may signal the presence of all the 6 GB but only treaty that 4 GB and part of that 4 GB is used for material - mainly the video memory and BIOS device.

    Hello

I created a client of Windows 2003 32 bit on Win XP 32 bit host server using vmware workstation 6.0.3

Now, I need to use this vmware image on a host of Win XP 64 bit or Vista 64-bit. Does anyone know if there could be complications with that?

    Thank you!

    None

you just need to copy and paste your VM and make sure that you have a sufficient resources for your virtual machine (with Vista, you lose some of them)

No, unfortunately it turns out that it is impossible. You will not be able to see more than the 4 GB, unless your host operating system is able to see the memory using a PAE switch, or by using a 64-bit host OS. As Vista does not support the PAE switch, your guest operating system will be limited to the 4 GB as the host OS.

If the host operating system is 32-bit, 64-bit guest OS can be created?

Yes it is certainly possible. But you must make sure you enable VT-extensions. See also the excellent article by jmattson on troubleshooting problems of Intel VT - x

  • Host 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10 yourself running comments Windows 7 Pro 64 bit in vmware Player 4

    Hi all

I have a new installation of Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit on my old Dell Optiplex GX-620 machine.
I installed vmware player 4.0.2 on who.
I would like to create a virtual machine for few comments Windows 7 Professional 64.

Is the above a possible scenario? VMware player wonder what OS I'm going in the virtual machine and seems to only present 32 bits in the drop-down list of choices.  Maybe I can ignore that and go ahead and install the Win 7 64bits instead?

    Thanks for your help.

I fear that you will not be able to run all guests 64-bit with the CPU you use. As far as I know, none of the Pentium 4 processors support Intel VT - x.

  • What do you use for deploying Windows 7 64-bit Ent regarding vCPU and RAM in your environment?

    Hi guys,.

In my environment, we are currently running Windows 7 Ent 64-bit with 2 x vCPU and 2.5 GB of RAM.

Everything is working fine, but recently I just got a free health check of Xangati and would like to know if there is something I could do to improve the environment.

Essentially according to the results of the audit, I learned that I could be more indicer CPU and RAM on my desk from view.

My host is running 16 x 2.599 GHz CPU, and according to the report once I hit the hard desk with activities (CPU maxed out at 100% for about 15 minutes), it is said that the "CPU usage" hypervisor uses only 1.9 GHz top.

This means that a 1 x vCPU is more than enough to handle our daily tasks, so I went down there to 1 vCPU and test it hard once again by Windows Update.

Even if the use of the "processor" said again that I didn't not max at 2.599 but use the Windows processor is maxed out.

For me, it's like doing an update of windows on 1 vCPU is slower than when I used 2 vCPU but according to numbers, it shouldn't.

It was the same exact situation with the RAM.

If I look in the Windows Task Manager, Windows RAM was maxed out almost when I was doing tests, but on the side of the hypervisor, it says I'm only averaging about 1.7 GB.

So now I'm not sure what matrix that I should go. The windows or on the side hyper-visiere? Haha.

If I followed the hyper-visiere, I get scared when their desktop view is slow, the user could come to me and ask for additional resources, because that's what they see in the Task Manager.

It will be hard to convince them not to worry about what the Task Manager shows.

Note: I have no problem with the data since all desktop computers store is located in the FusionIO card.

Anyway, just want to see it as the Deputy there to use when they have configured their Windows 7 operating system.

Are you visiting x 2 vCPU and 2 or 3 GB of RAM? Or you would follow instead indicating you the numbers of the hypervisor?

    What would you do?

    Thank you guys!

I feel that it is something that must be determined on a case by case.    We started with 1 vCPU which works great for 95% of our users.    We have others that require more resources while they were transferred in a different pool with additional resources.    In addition, we found that 1 vCPU works well for most everything except the video.   If you want to play a lot of video you can test with 2 vCPU and see if that works better.

In the end, it's all about what your user comments and should dictate.   You don't want to shake your users of the resources, because that will lead to the decline in performance and the bad perception but also be careful not to approve because they will lead to poor performance and a bad perception.    Once people get a negative perception of the environment, it is difficult to cross.

  • Cannot ping CentOS 6.4 invited Windows 7 host through NAT

    Hello

I am running VMware Workstation 9.02 on Windows 7 (64 bit) with customers running CentOS (also 64 bit) 6.4, using NAT networking.

Everything worked fine, but suddenly I can reach is no longer the guest computers CentOS network NAT. Ping the address of the guest PC from the command-line on the host computer Windows 7 fails with a 'Request timed.' error out. However, the guest operating system still seems to be able to connect to the Internet (i.e. Ping google.com from a command-line in the CentOS prompt seems to have reached the site).

I don't know what has changed in the State of the Windows host. I tried to re-setup of VMware, but nothing seems to restore connectivity between a Windows host and the guest of CentOS operating system. Can anyone suggest what could be bad, or how I can start to debug the loss of connectivity on the side Windows?

I'm using a Kaspersky firewall on the Windows 7 host, but it never prevented connectivity with VMware customers before.

    Thank you

    Tony

If the virtual machine has a network/Internet connectivity so I doubt it is a matter of VMware itself and it is most likely a firewall issue.  Check and make sure that all firewalls do not block ICMP (ping) echo requests on the host and the guest.

    Hello

I am running windows 7, 64 bit, but when I go into the properties of the system on my Toshiba L650 it says I use 2.99 GB to 4 GB.
How do he uses all 4 GB?
    Why only using 2.99?

    Hello

A part of the main memory is shared by the graphics card!
It runs automatically, and you cannot control it.

Simply said; Win 7 recognized the full RAM, but a part of the main RAM has been assigned to the memory of the graphics card.

Check DirectX usign the dxdiag command. I think you'll see the full 4 GB of RAM it.

  • Install XP Pro (32 bit) with 8 GB of RAM

I have a new machine and I put Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it. But I have a few old programs that may not work in Windows 7, so I intend to install XP Pro x 86 on a separate drive (two clean installs), dual boot. I know that Win 7 Pro and Ultimate offer XP mode, but I don't have those. I have Home Premium. My questions are:

-Should I install Win 7 first and only install XP if my applications do not work? Or do I have to install XP first to correctly set up a system dual boot?

-My system has 8 GB of RAM. I know that XP x 86 will recognize only 4 GB of memory system including other installed hardware. I'm fine with that. Will I have problems (failures, data corruption), but try to install XP with 8 GB?

    Here are my machine features:
    Core i5 2500 K
    Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4 B3
    Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 8GB (2 x 4 GB)
    EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
    Intel X 25 - V SSD 40 GB (x 2)

It is better to install XP first and then Windows 7, how you can reverse wich OS is installed first.

I noticed that you have the chipset Intel B3 stepping. They only send you naked Board as a replacement for or the whole box with cables and plate I/O?

  • How upgrade to 64 bit Win 7 after upgrade Ram 6 GB on 3250br Pavilion DM1?

I m going to upgrade 6 GB memory on my Pavilion DM1 3250br. Although windows indicate it is 64-bit capable windows anytime update installed 32-bit (because it has less than 2 GB available).

    1. How should you proceed to upgrade to 64-bit after upgrade memory? I don't have a system disk, only the suplyed key home premium by HP.

2 HP has 64-bit for all devices drivers? They are in D: recovery drive or I´ll need to download the upgrade?

    3. any information you want to give.

    Best regards

    Eduardo

    Hi, Eduardo:

    You can try it.

I know it works if you have a retail upgrade key which means that it is good for 32 or 64 bit.

I don't know an ISO file that you get off the internet is an OEM file.

If this is the case, it will not work. If this isn't the case, I doubt it will be.

I have dealt only with the installations of Windows 7 using OEM disks or retail upgrade.

Basically, the key that you use must be the same as the installation disc.

OEM disc / ISO good with the key on the bottom of your portable forest 32 or 64 OEM.

Plenty of retail disc / ISO only good with the full commercial product key, you get the box or the e-mail sent to you - 32 or 64 bit.

The retail upgrade disc / ISO only good with the retail upgrade key, you get in the box or the e-mail sent to you - 32 or 64-bit.

Upgrade Express disc / ISO only good with the upgrade retail or upgrade Express key - 32 or 64-bit if you have a disk.

I used a disk of 64 bit Vista Business anytime upgrade to upgrade Vista Home Premium 64 bit update, and I was able to use the key from Vista Business 32 bit provided with the 32-bit disk (I had a 32-bit Vista Business retail box update but they come only with discs of 32 bits at the time and you had to order a CD of) 64-bit and pay $10. You can't even not the disks in 64-bit vista to MS.

    Hope this helps,
