• How can you make Firefox the default browser when the normal route does not work?

  Im trying entirely chrome once a friend showed how my firefox got his act together. However I can't for the life of me set it as default browser. I tried the 'make firefox the default browser' button in firefox, making that opens the windows default programs Panel.   Thank you for your help, but I managed to fix it by myself. The registry key for the associations of html and URLs of firefox have been corrupted so I scoured their in regedit (at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxHTML and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL) and them deleted entirely, then redid them by clicking on the make default firefox button in the options.

  I have two accounts for myself on my PC under Windows XP. In the administrative account, Firefox is already the default browser that appears when I double-click an HTML file, etc. Firefox knows that it is the default browser.

  In my other account, whenever I start Firefox, it tells me that this isn't the default browser. By clicking here to make the value by default, or in the options, does nothing.

  When I go to Set Program Access and defaults in the administrative account, 'use my current browser' is selected. Mozilla Firefox is not listed as an option. In my nonadministrator account, the Control Panel Add / Remove programs can be used. He says I don't have permission.

  I've just updated to version 35.0 today. Now, every time I restart my browser that asks me to make Firefox the default browser. I've always said yes and check the box to remember. It does not work. Research help and did what was told to go into Control Panel, then programs and by setting the default value for it. That no longer works. I've never had this problem before. I'm at a loss to know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  You can check for problems with preferences.

  Delete possible user.js and files numbered prefs-# .js and rename (or delete) the file prefs.js to reset all the prefs by default, including the prefs set via user.js and pref which is no longer supported in the current version of Firefox.

  Disable the Safari Extensions

     • If the issue is returned, you have identified the add-on causing the problem. Do not use or contact its manufacturer for an updated version.
     • If the question does not return, quit Safari and put back another file.

• Google Chrome installed but I have not installed it. Also the default browser configured to read a link as if it were an application for commencement. A lot of questions because I improved the MSE. What is happening with this? Also network problems.

  Since I upgraded MSE (when I did, there was a popup telling me it had not been approved for XP) I had to do system restore because it would not be updated and did not allow me update Windows.  Moreover, since the installation of a new version of CCleaner and jump into an H & R Block CD (but not installed) Google Chrome suddenly appeared as installed.  A day later, when I open IE8, it said that it was not my default browser.  It turns out that the default was trying to read the links as if they were programs to open.  These things happen in sequence, not all at once.  I'm starting to lose faith in MSE as a viable security program.  Everyone knows these issues?

  Unless you did, do you also have a Google toolbar? That install package you used for CCleaner it is where your new Chrome browser default change probably came to look always for 'extras' during the installation of the software, sometimes even when you uncheck the options such as the toolbar Google or Google Chrome as default browser and the homepage that they install any way. In the case of CCleaner you must always use the/setup package install ' Slim/No toolbar' such as the one proposed here.

  Go to the general tab in the Internet Options and reset your default homepage and reset your default browser in "Set program access and Defaults" then uninstall Google Chrome and toolbar using Add/Remove programs. If you have had the problem of Chrome before attempting to upgrade the MSE this may have contributed to updates failed.   Have you tried other browsers, such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer? (See How to open Internet Explorer in Windows 10). If only Microsoft Edge can access the websites, I think that it is not a matter of Firefox and you can get better help on a Windows forum.

  I am running Yosemite on my iMac.  I want to change it the default browser to Chrome, Safari, but in preferences, no navigation software is displayed.

  I don't know how Chrome has set as the default, but it's a pain to wait for it to load when I click on a url (by mail, for example).

  Instead type the command as shown in the article, I suggest that you copy and paste the web page in the Terminal window. Make sure you only select the whole line before copying. One way to do that is to triple - click anywhere in the line.

  On my Windows 7 PC parents, Firefox always said my mother is not the default browser (giving him the possibility to make sure) and then when closing, he pinned himself to the task bar.

  I checked and Firefox to default programs "has its flaws. I tried to get IE by default and then back to Firefox but the problem persists. The PC has no other browsers on it. Clicklinks in Thunderbird cause Firefox open, there'S no so it seems as if it is actually the default.

  When Firefox is closed it still pin himself to the taskbar. I can detach it and when it closes, it is still there.

  Search on Google, I have a suspicion that pinning occurs when the default configuration of Firefox. I also have a suspicion that something is wrong with the default for HTTP as it does not exist as a protocol to control custom Programs\Set Associations

  I have it solved!

  The command "Firefox.exe - silent - setDefaultBrowser" seems to have restored the HTTP protocol in control custom Programs\Set Associations.

  Here's what I'm running:
  Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1, fully updated to 04/10/2012
  New installation of Firefox 11. No add-on enabled following troubleshooting.
  I am a user has administrator rights

  For starters, this has happened since Firefox 10 or more. A couple of months now.

  I am able to open Firefox. My modules worked (ABP, Flashblock, ABP Element Hiding Helper, IETAB2, Downthemall, Greasemonkey, extension of 4chan) had no problem. Firefox is defined and has been fixed for the past two years as my default browser.

  But since about 10 or so, maybe Firefox before, if I opened a session of Firefox and any other application attempts to open a session in a new window, I get the Firefox is already running but not responding do not error. »

  I tried to follow the advice of already posted troubleshooting (glance to parent.lock files left [no date], several sessionstore.js [no date] files, create a new user profile, has tried to erase the 'read only' permission in windows 7, but as soon as it is cleared, only read permission back.)

  As a last resort, I deleted the Firefox folder, the directory %APPDATA%/Mozilla in its entirety and then used CCleaner to remove all references to Firefox in the windows registry, and then made a complete re - install, without extensions installed right now.

  Case 2: Open a firefox session. Right click on Firefox in the taskbar. Select 'open in new window '. "Firefox is already running" error

  Case 3: Open a session of firefox. Select the Firefox Menu > new tab > new window. In fact, a new window opens.

  This is the only method of opening a new window in the same browser session or profile that actually works on my system. Attempting to open a browser session from the task bar "open new window dialog" or opening a new window while a current window/session is running will not open firefox in a new window or a new tab in the current session. The "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error will occur every time.
  

  Make sure that you do not start Firefox with the - No.-remote switch or have defined the MOZ_NO_REMOTE = 1 environment variable (Control Panel > system > advanced > environment variables).
