iPhoto update

I get an iPhoto (released March 19, 2015) 9.6.1 update on my Macbook Pro. Can I remove iPhotos Applications? It will cause issues if I do?

Do you want to update iPhoto and use it?  Or do you not use iPhoto at all?

If you have no iPhoto libraries you need to open and do not use iPhoto, you can remove it from the record Applications. It is not part of the system is a software like pictures.

There are some inconsistencies in your question:

    1. If you do not have 10.11.4 then you can not possible be eager to download iPhoto 9.4.3 because it does not work on El Capitan.  You'll need iPhoto 9.6.1.

Mac Pro 5.1 2.8 Ghz QC 32 GB 3 internal HD 1 to, 2 TB and 4 TB.

    Mavericks 10.9.5

    iPhoto 9.5.1

When I switch to El Capitan will that be a problem?

Is the another internal drive to Mac OS extended (journaled) format? Otherwise, Photos will try to create the new library of photos on the system drive and not the same drive,

I'll do a clean install of El Capitan.

Others what precautions should I take?

It is not really necessary to upgrade a clean install. But if you want to do, test you backup, if it works and that you can restore your documents a data, before you wipe your system drive.

  • I can't open iPhoto/Update

Mac OS X 10.10.3 and newer include Photos, which is designed as a replacement for iPhoto. If you want to go on the use of iPhoto in addition to or instead of switch to Photos, click here and try following the instructions; you will only be able to do if you got before where associated with iPhoto on the Mac App store.

What version do you have now? You can use iPhoto 11 v9.6.1 on El Capitan. If you have a version earlier than iPhoto 11 then there is no way to upgrade and you must use the new Photos.app instead.

If you have a version of iPhoto 11 then put it in the trash (not empty it) and reinstall it from the shopping list of the Mac App Store - note it is the Mac App Store and nothing to do with iTUnes.

  • iPhoto questions

My new Macbook Pro has never been iPhoto. I downloaded OS X El Capitan and my current system. When I try to download whatever it is associated with iPhoto, I get this message. Can you help me understand what is the problem? Message: this update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by another user or the item has been refunded or cancelled.

The computer was purchased new from Best Buy and I have never cancelled nor did I receive no refund.

    Thanks for the help,

    Sweetgran Anne

Apple has stopped the development of iPhoto, and is no longer can be purchased on the AppStore.

Only you can reinstall iphoto by uploading it from your purchase history as described in user tip Barney:

See this link on the iPhoto update to version 9.6.1: cannot be updated iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

If iphoto does not appear in your purchase history, try to view:

Hide and show purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support

In the long term, consider to switch to News Photos for Mac application. It is the successor of iPhoto. This can make your iPhoto libraries. and a better option, because you can print is more books from iPhoto, order calendars, cards or prints.

  • Problem with Iphoto/Photos

    Hey there!

I've updated my mac from the software for OS X Yosemite 10.10 10.6.8 and can't now open Iphoto or upgrading the application.

Photos of the app has not been installed with the upgrade, what can I do to find/open all the pictures I had on my computer?

Thank you in advance for your help!

What version of Yosemite have you?   Photos for Mac will be installed with MacOS X 10.10.3 or later.  If missing pictures, look at the tab updates on the App Store and update at least MacOS X better 10.10.3, to 10.10.5 to get all Yosemite bug patches. Then, you will be able to use Photos for Mac.

To be able to use iPhoto, update iPhoto 9.6.1. However, it will be possible, if you use iPhoto 9.x.x.

9.6.1 iPhoto works well with Yosemite and El Capitan.

See tip for user to Barney, if you did not yet Update 9.6.1 iPhoto: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431

  • IPhoto crashed and remove partial events

I'm sorry, there was a similar thread, and I accidentally it marked as closed. He came from nowhere and I includes a summary and a link at the bottom.

I launched iphoto 9.5.1 on 10.9.5 and have no good backup.  (Please do not pass judgment, I know I should have upgraded and saved...). Is it possible for me to return my events, changes, titles and other metadata?

2 days ago iphoto crashed and would not restart. When you hold option + command while from iphoto did not (much less quick to rebuild) library, I installed iPhoto Library Manager who found the library without even an error message but only a fraction of the pictures (about 1500 to 6000). Photos seem to lack of each event, the films have been truncated. The most recent event was absent.

I checked in the file system, Library.photolibrary/Masters/2014/05/10/ Pictures/iPhoto... the pictures were there and seem to be grouped reasonably, probably by import. A recovery of Library Manager iPhoto later with pictures of recovery orphan to return a batch of photos, I guess that all that were in events over what was in the trash. (Even after the removal of duplicates, I more than before.) They are in folders of every day now, I almost 500 instead of 90 and lost titles and most of the changes.

The thread iphoto 9.5.1 orphans most of my photos

    • The damaged library is located on the system drive, in ~/Pictures named Library.photolibrary iPhoto and shows in the finder with the icon of the fan (see below)
    • Control option double click the damaged library translates iPhoto trying to repair the reconstructed library and then try to import the library damaged in that rebuilt
    • The rebuilt library does not contain a folder of "old masters", at least not after a savaged the orphan photos.
    • I did not perform an upgrade on the damaged library or iPhoto update recently
    • It crashed during the execution of the faces.
    • drwxr-xr-x @ 17 personal myuserid 578 4 Feb 01:11 iPhoto Library.photolibrary

The simplest solution is to restore the backup copy of your library that was made just before this happen.

    If not try this:

With the help of iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild your iPhoto library

1 - Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch. > click on the button Add library.

2 - Select the library you want to add those in the selection window.

3 - Make sure that the window box "photos orphan Scavange" is checked in the reconstruction.

    4. now that the library is listed in the left pane of PILM, click your library and go to the Library ➙ rebuild library menu option

    5. in the next window name the new library, and then select the location you want to be placed. Click on the button create.

, Note 1: This creates a library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will retrieve the events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.

Note 2: Your current library will be left intact for subsequent difficulty attempts if you wish.

  • The contents of the iPhoto library "copy of iPhoto library" has already been migrated to Photos.  Open the Photos to display your library or use a compatible version of iPhoto to open the iPhoto library. How can I fix?

The contents of the iPhoto library "copy of iPhoto library" has already been migrated to Photos.  Open the Photos to display your library or use a compatible version of iPhoto to open the iPhoto library.

    What you trying to do?

You want to open your iPhoto library in iPhoto or the new Photos.app?  and what version of Mac OS X and iPhoto you have installed on your Mac?

If you have improved your Mac to Mac OS X 10.11,2, El Capitan, you can open your photo libraries or in News Photos for application mac or you can continue to use iPhoto, but only iPhoto 9.6.1 will work on El Capitan.

IPhoto update (see user tip of Barney: cannot be updated iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store)

Once an iPhoto Library was opened in Photos the extension will change to ".migratedphotolibrary".  To open this library in iPhoto again, change the extension of filename in '.photolibrary '.
