iPod 4 disabled

My 10 year old son has forgotten his or her password after being away on vacation. After trying 6 times it is now locked. Incredibly, I read on the Apple page that means that his unit has to be cleaned. Is really the only way that he can get back control?

If no problem what happens or doesn't happen, and when in the instructions? When you get the iPod into recovery successfully mode and connect to iTunes on the computer should say that it found an iPod in recovery mode.

You may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the password after the device has been removed.
You can also clean the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone application on another iOS device and using this app to wipe the device.
