Is a processor upgrade Optiplex 755 worth the cost and effort?

I have a 755 core 2 duo 3 Ghz 1333 FSB running Windows 7.

Is the cost and effort to upgrade the processor to a quad core is worthwhile, given the age of the computer?

Would be a quad core overclocking more slowly or more slow FSB no improvement in speed over the 3 GHz Core 2.

Looking at eBay and amazon Q9650 (3 GHz) runs around $100, the Q9550 (2.83 GHz) about $75.

The slower Quad cores are $30 - $40, which I wouldn't mind if it makes a noticeable improvement.

Not sure I want to put another $100 in there, unless it's a very big improvement.

Thank you

You should see an improvement in performance, but I don't know how. On average, what is your current CPU usage in Task Manager? If it is maxed out at 100%, a large part of the time, moving to a quad core should offer a significant improvement. If it is 50-60% most of the time, maybe it's not that big of an improvement. Here is a list of media UC the OptiPlex 755:

3.00 GHz, Quad Core Yorkfield Q9650, 12MB
Yorkfield 2.83 GHz Quad Core Q9550 12 MB, 1333 MHz FSB, E0
2.66 GHz, Quad Core Yorkfield Q9400, 6Mo, 1333FSB, R0
2.66 GHz, Quad Core Kentsfield Q6700, 8 MB, 1066FSB, G0

The Q9650 both the Q9550 should work in your machine. I hope this helps!

  • No POST after CPU Upgrade OptiPlex 755

Just try to upgrade CPU of my Dell OptiPlex 755 Celeron to Core 2 Quad 9650 430. After swapping CPU, CPU fan runs, light on the card mother and some long deep, but not post.  Help, please.

Are you sure it's a CPU supported?

You upgrade to the latest version of the BIOS before you swapped processors?

Are you sure that it is positioned correctly in the socket?

  • Upgrading OptiPlex 755/heatsink?

Hello.  I am the proud owner of a Minitour Optiplex 755 (it's the largest, right?).  I would exchange its current E8400 for a quad core CPU.  I have yet to decide on which one, but my assumption is that all the quads would be hotter than a CPU dual core.  I might be worth mentioning that the PC came originally with an E6750.

Since the Optiplex (mostly Dells?) using a heat sink assembly / fan non-standard Cpu, my question is this: Dell did use the same radiator/fans regardless of whether if the PC comes with a dual core or quad core CPU? Or do you have a heatsink / fan is enough to cool the dual AND Quad enough?  OK, that's 2.

I looked online for a radiator that is specifically for a 755 with a quad core, but found only the standard one I currently have in my own 755.

    Thank you.

Update the BIOS for the 755 is as A20 I think.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to update the BIOS BEFORE installing a cpu update.

High heat sinks performance on Optiplex towers have a copper heatpipe construction.  The Low end ones are a block of aluminium extruded.  Low range of Optiplex 755 minitower systems. Compatible part numbers: HR004, J7109, FW209, W5685, W6177

J9761 is the high end part copper.

A discreet (dedicated) video card is not necessary. You can always add more later if you need the extra graphics power. Its not harmful if you perform a task such as photos and videos. Benefits is its great for games top of range and can future proof your system. If you are working in Photoshop, certainly invest in the discrete video card. Photoshop she likes it.

I'm not an expert in computers, but can generally follow directions well enough. The help of this system Mazilla fact dependent on questions of a group doesn't make any easier these problems. I see the same questions asked by many people without clear answers to why this is happening.

Unfortunately, if this problem is not resolved soon, I'll have to drop Mozilla for another system...

  • Tecra A4: worth the cost of repair?

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra A4 series. It was bought by my employer six or seven years, and then they gave me when I retired two years ago. But they don't give me the disks of software to the special version of Windows that is installed. The computer is now unusable, due to some issues which I am unable to fix it myself.

Simply get a fault diagnosis and prospects make it usable again cost more than negligible, and repairs, if I agree for them, will cost much more. Should put more money into this computer, or I'd do better to invest in a new laptop?

    It's your own decision

But if the repair would cost around 200-$300 or more, I would recommend this unit sales (ebay?) and to buy another maybe a second hand that runs properly

  • 27 "5 common K vs iMac Macbook Pro - worth the iMac and investment?

    Hello

I'm currently the proud owner of an end 2013 15 "Macbook Pro retina, 2.6 GHz. But I would like a more powerful machine to use the desktop.

Current Macbook Pro vs new iMac:

16 GB of RAM = 16 GB of RAM

Disk 512 GB PCIe Flash = 512 GB PCIe Flash drive

    2, 6 GHz CPU > 4 GHz CPU

    NVIDIA GT 750M > AMD Radeon R9 M395X

But still, it's an investment of $3,200. I get a much faster machine, or it will be just a quick configuration of 30%? Thanks for any comments.

    Thank you

    Björn

If you need a powerful desktop computer then it's either the iMac of the Mac Pro. There are many benchmarks and comparisons to find, so do some research - naked exploits just ran a comparison.

To count the number of outgoing sms and mms; implement SendListener.

From the call duration use call log.

and take the callcost/min, cost/sms, mms/cost as user input to first launch your application. I have thin in this way you can do your necessary things.

  • NB200 - upgrade the RAM and install Windows 7?

    Hello to you guys.

I'm back and received the news for you. I got my new Toshiba NB200-10Z. I would like to ask you:

What are your comments on the upgrade of RAM? The difference is notable? It worth the cost?
What RAM memory slot I'm supposed to get? And what is the maximum memory I can update?

What are your ideas on installing Windows 7 as the only operating system OR to have both on different partitions?

    Thank you all in advance

    Hello

Just one question: you have a new laptop and why you didn t consult the user manual?
I ask this because in the user manual, you can find all the information on the upgrade of the RAM.
In my opinion RAM upgrade is always useful because the RAM modules are cheap nowadays and with 2 or 3 GB, you have enough RAM for applications.

Regarding the issue of Windows 7 you can install it if you want, why not? You can do what you want with your laptop, but I prefer the pre-installed version of XP at the moment because Windows 7 isn't on the market yet.
If you want to install you need extra partition for it.

  • HP envy 1046tx: processor upgrade

I use hp laptop 1046tx from 2013.now that I wanted to spend my processor.pls recommend some better cpu processor that can replace my 3rd generation of core i5...

    divya123

Sorry, but it seems that you are out of luck regarding the upgrade of the processor.

Here is the maintenance and repair of your PC and on page 1, it lists the processors PC will take and the i5 is the fastest, it will: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03282135

In addition, replacement of the processor is very expensive in laptops, because must send the PC to an HP Service Center and pay them a LOT to dismantle the PC, replace the motherboard and reassemble the PC.  Can easily cost more to simply replace the laptop.

    Good luck

  • The RAM and HARD drive upgrade

    Hello

I put my laptop, at level

    8.1 Windows 64-bit, Intel Core i7-4700MP @ 2.40 GHz

    Currently 12 GB of Ram - 8 GB & 4 GB Kingston DDR3

    Currently 1 TB Toshiba HDD
    http://storage.Toshiba.EU/CMS/en/HDD/computing/product_detail.jsp?ProductID=409

I'm looking to upgrade the 4 GB of RAM to a 8 GB, I just don't know how many pins each room has. Any guidance where to find this without disassembling the machine would be very handy! -I think it's a 204pin?

Also looking to add a second hard drive on my machine, what is the maximum size that can take this laptop? Ideally I'd like an another 1 TB HDD (same brand) than my current. Is this possible? Then the hard drives of 1 TB overprinting two system?

EDIT: Is it possible to have the other as an SSD? Although that can't really benefits to have as a slave instead of a master drive.

    Thank you very much

    Dan

    Hello

    Manual - Page 2

    Plug

RAM: Yes, 204pin SODIMM SDRAM desired. You can buy the memory stick to the exact configuration & preference even brand that is already installed on your computer laptop & listed in the service manual, so that it works correctly.

Configuration of the RAM: 8 GB DDR3L 1600 MHz PC3L-12800 1.35v SODIMM SDRAM

Run this tool to know the configuration & Details of RAM already installed.

Page 51 details the procedure of replacement, fairly simple.

HDD: According to the manual, it has double drive HARD support. You can put another 1 TB 2.5 inch 9.5 mm SATA HDD. You can buy additonal material of hard drive Kit (HP PRTs number: 720237-001) to install on secondary Bay for data storage.

I would have preferred a faster 7200 RPM HARD drive with the cache higher like this , if you want more storage.

Alternatively, you can replace the current HDD with SSD of similar form factor (2.5 inches SATA 7 mm or 9.5 mm thick) and make as boot drive by moving the drive toward SSD HARD integer before replacement & put old HDD to secondary storage Bay. SSD would defintely thrust upward performance drastically, but they are expensive - I would say worth the cost.

Page 48-50 details the replacement procedure. Its relatively simple to do.

Don't expect any major improvement in the game. Game made in the graphics card (GPU) and not the processor (CPU). You are being held back by the Intel integrated graphics card. You can get a different motherboard for this model with slightly better graphics, but the cost and the difficulty would be worse than just buying a new laptop with the video you need.

  • Card PCI-E graphic for Dell Optiplex 755 SFF

    Hi all

I have an Optiplex 755 SFF 275W PSU and PCI-E video slim with.  Graphics on this series are awful - video DVD playback cannot without jerking.  I spent a few hours trolling on the web trying to determine which video card will work in the 755.  The general consensus of the 'guaranteed' card is the Radeon HD 2400 PRO.  So, I managed to follow a fact (after trying a 5570 & it not even leave the PC start), had shipped here and installed.  To see that it does not too leave the PC startup.  So typical of Dell to make the PC which are incredibly limited.  What is the point of having a PC capable of running Win 7 (will have 8 GB of DDR2 RAM, has currently of 2 GB and currently has a Dual E6550 - core 2.3 Ghz CPU) when he cannot take a card even modestly spec'd?  This is the last time that I buy Dell.

Anyway, having spent the mug shot (ah, much better, thank you)-why the this junky 755 will only take the so-called "guaranteed" HD 2400 PRO?  When I try to start it up, it not this stupid pre-start high ramp / down fans, then turns off, try again, then turns off, then on the 3rd go fans just go hard on & stay like that for as long as I care to leave.  If I take the HD 2400 PRO on & put this stupid DVI adapter card in the PCI-E slot, it's all good.

No changes have been made to the 755 - it's just a standard stock machine.  If for some bizarre reason, all others using the HD 2400 PRO with the 755 SFF tell bald-faced lies (that is, they are not really using a HD 2400 PRO at all), what are the other maps?  I see that the motherboard has "25W" appear next to the slot PCI - E - but the HD 2400 PRO is rated at 25 w max.

Buy the 755 was supposed to be an inexpensive way to make a living desktop PC.  I don't want to lose more money on cards that don't work.  And the HD 2400 PRO was relatively expensive for such an old map, obsolete (crazy NZD$ 42 - when a 5570 is only NZD$ 65).

Any help / constructive suggestions appreciated.

You can change. Click the Green pencil. But I already have to remove both blasphemous words.

The 755 came in four different chassis sizes. You have chosen a smaller with the smallest power so you don't you. Here are valid Dell Low Profile PCI - e 16 X for this chassis - video cards
