Is a tool from microsoft that checks for viruses that actually works

I tried to use mrt.exe and the new scanner from microsoft that is the safety scanner and I used Security essentials but was not able to find the virus on my computer and when I try to manually search on the appdata and the virus was there. Guys can you like recommend me some of your tools from microsoft that can check for the presence of virus, it will be really meant a lot

I get my infected computer all the time on purpose (practice remove infections) and I can tell you right now with100% certainty that Microsoft's tools are often too weak to detect even some of more common conditions of system and subsequently will not be able to delete them.  I don't even use Microsoft tools more for anything - I don't have time to waste.

'Fair' note Microsoft tools and but lack many things that other applications will be prevent, detect and resolve.  Some applications are more aggressive and quarantine (effectively delete) critical XP system files, resulting in a scenario without boot (it is usually because definitions are out of date) so that makes these situations an error to the user (not the fault of the tool).

No single analytical tool seems to know everything, so it is prudent to use more than one.

Microsoft is not in cases of prevention, detection or removal of malware - that aren't their specialty.  There are other companies where the removal, prevention and detection of malware is their specialty and that's all they do all day long.

Why are we expect or ask Microsoft to surpass in the areas where it's not their job?

When Microsoft tools fail or if you even suspect that they might have missed something, I always start with the free MBAM and SAS versions because they are free, install any boot on your computer and they uninstall cleanly if ever there is a need to remove them (there is no trace).

Just start with MBAM and SAS first, and you will not waste any time trying things that might work maybe sometimes from time to time.

These messages are never true. Microsoft does not have lotteries, and
    Microsoft does not send e-mails.

Yes, Mac OS X has built-in protection that is updated regularly (in the background). You don't need any other software.

  • I got a phone call from microsoft that malicious software is installed on my computer

I live in Toronto, Canada. Someone called me and told me that she calls me from Microsoft and said some malware is installed in my computer and she told me to turn on your computer and do the instruction, she tells me.  I do not trust it because it's weird to have a call from microsoft on Saturday evening at 7:00. I said what happened if I didn't, she told me that she disconnects my server computer and tell my provider to block my IP address! I asked his emp ID, name and Department she calls, it just pass the phone to his supervisor, and when I insist on my view that I'm not you trust, he told me that you don't have any technical information. and it was very very rude... Finally I hung upward and the lady called me again and gave me this info: name: Abam Sorgr, empID: 21536 Windows operation system Dept., at Montreal, Canada, she gave me her employee ID:21536, the phone, her name was 65391989 which don't belonge to the Canada. I told him I check from microsoft and you can call me tomorrow. and now I have no idea?

These phone calls are usually of a person representing Windows rather than Microsoft, but in any case, the call was nothing else than a phishing attempt! Do not give any information.

Reported people on these calls for a person who represents Windows (note: not Microsoft).

It is a scam! Not to follow their instructions or advice and not to provide ANY information to them.

Because they use the internet lines and/or phone to complete their fraud, there may be federal agencies in your country who are interested in discovering their calls (e.g. RCMP). Their report directly to the appropriate agency if you feel you can contribute to their arrest and the charges.

Microsoft do NOT pick up the phone and start dialing customers and never phones/e-mails asking for personal information or asking them to visit a web site! Please do not take into account these calls and hang up immediately.

On another note, if you have problems with your computer, please do not hesitate to post a description of the situation and the error messages you received in those forums. We would be happy to help you. (information staff unnecessary or requested !)

  • Will there be security of Microsoft (or any other company) programs that actually work?

I'm currently under Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2 on a Dell Studio 450, 64 bit OS, 4 GB of RAM.  For security, I have the full licensed version of McAfee (including firewalls, anti-Spam, Phishing, & scanning in real time, by email, online, etc.).  In addition to this, I also have Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, and a program of detection of advertising.  Everything I use in full mode and take full advantage of the guarantee that they are supposed to offer.

So you can imagine my surprise when, after having problems with my monitor of all things, I put a manual scan, which detected a Trojan horse and two viruses.  I checked the log files, nothing has been detected up to me defining manual tests.  No attempt had even been "noticed".  After seeing the results, I went and double checked to make sure that everything was on and functional... that they were all.

I took care of the intrusions and then did a little research on them.  Everything that I could find & learned was that it was more trouble than the threats, they were all low-risk to the computer and my network.  A site even quoted the Trojan horse as being the lowest of the Totem virus!

It is rather a question of two parts: 1. What is the purpose using programs all the time, and still less pay for them, if they don't work?  If this small 'GNAT' of a virus could do on my machine, what on Earth will keep a virus really high-risk to become?  2. has someone at - he found a program that does not really work to keep stuff on your device?
I would like any input, advice or suggestions that you have!
    Thanks for reading!

The problem that have security software providers, is that they see a virus before they work how to detect and remove. There is still a window of opportunity for the virus before that definition updates are shipped out. If the component in real time of the anti-virus program can fail, but it is picked up by a scan a few days later. Most of the antivirus programs include components that examines what a program is to try to detect anything suspicious. But it is not foolproof either.

There are steps to take to protect yourself from such that

    • Run as standard user and not an administrator. This can make it more difficult to install malware.
    • Do not install a program if you didn't not go get her. For example, if you go to a site and it tells you you need to install something to view the content
    • Make sure that Microsoft updates are applied as soon as possible
    • Third-party software keep up to date. Malicious software exploits vulnerabilities in popular programs such as Java, Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader. If you do not have Java, uninstall it. You can check if you have vulnerable versions of programs with the of Secunia PSI http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal
    • For advanced users, EMET can be used to make exploitation of vulnerability more difficult http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=1677

  • Instructions to remove the search engine do not work, the "delete" button remains grayed out check marks independently. Is there another way that actually works?

The Firefox Support instructions below do not work in version 36. The button 'delete' is never gray State asset once the unwanted/s search engine are checked for removal. I tried one at a time and in groups, it does everything just as they suggest below.

    Delete a search engine

You can remove search engines, that you don't need by performing the following steps on the search bar in the toolbar or on the page tab.

Click the search engine icon and select Manage Search Engines... to open the search engines manager.
To remove a search engine, select it from the list, and click Remove.

If you accidentally delete a default search engine, click on restore default values to recover the default search engines.

If you accidentally delete a search engine that you installed, you must re-install it.

I found the solution, the surprisingly simple. Thanks to everyone for trying, but against all the recommendations after a new analysis of malware, virus and upgrade to the latest version released on March 5, 2015... Here is the fix:

Left click on the dropdown search button, then left click on the "change search settings." Ignore completely the checkboxes as suggested by Mozilla. The text of the search engine you want to delete to highlight in blue in the Middle, click on the grey Out button below should become active. The only function of the boxes by the search engine will make them visible or not when using the search box in Firefox. The solutions proposed by others seems logical, but I learned more than 4 decades as a technician in computer science, opt for the simple solution first. Thank you all for your suggestions, this fix works for versions 36 and 36.0.01on Windows 7. I guess it should work for other OS also.

  • During the installation of XP bluescreen error 'Check for viruses on your computer' and 0x0000007B error code

All of a sudden my computer will not start and I tried to reinstall/repair the operating system.

When you try to install the OS, when booting from the CD and before asking questions of formatting, it displays a blue screen. sayng 'Search for viruses on your computer' and finally 0x0000007B, etc...

    Thanks in advance

If you use hard drives SATA and AHCI is enabled in the BIOS, you will need to press F6 and add SATA drivers when it says press F6.

Otherwise, you will need to change AHCI Mode IDE in the BIOS (BUT you cannot change it back to AHCI after). Well, you can with a registry hack

Or you need to integrate the SATA drivers, then reinstall windows

This is what the stop error 0x0000007B means. He can not find the hard drive (if you add or integrate SATA drivers). It will crash before you get the installation / configuration screen (XP, since the XP CD doesn't have SATA or RAID drivers on that).

And clear the virus check option in the BIOS if its permit
