  Short answer: Yes. It is a scam. Not much interest to report, as MS are well aware of this problem, but there is little they can do about it since then (I guess) most of the calls are created outside the United States

  It's a SCAM! Microsoft does not make that neither have they partners that do and don't they hire contractors or individuals or even to find volunteers to do. There are probably thousands of these companies out there do every day - we get two or three posts like this (or more) each day ask about it. You are lucky who have recognized the scam enough not to be sucked in and eventually identify theft, infections, hacking your computer, convince you to buy software or services you either did not need or that do not really exist at all and all sorts of nefarious stuff. You'd be surprised how much contact us AFTER THAT that they realized they had been duped asking what to do. Don't waste time talking to these people, not give them any personal information it is, don't be fooled by what they can get allows you to see on the computer - in fact, not do anything they suggest on your computer or even to visit Web sites they recommend and for the love of God don't give them access to your computer.

  Microsoft knows this is happening, but with these companies popping up like dandelions, or closing and changing names when discovered and operating mainly from abroad, it would take an army of lawyers to sue each other. They do the best they can, but they are just too many and more added every day. People need to pay attention to these things. They occur not only by telephone, but also by e-mail, instant messaging, mail and all the ways imaginable. Forget not that Microsoft doesn't this and hang up or remove the emails or messages or mail from someone claiming that they do because they know the information on your computer or that you want to get information from you to confirm your account so that it will not be closed and asking you your name of user and password and all sorts of other personal information. Microsoft DO NOT!

After a long telephone conversation, he forced me to accept that my Bullguard anti virus and my malware Remover is not enough to protect the computer and forced me to buy a program from Microsoft (this man of course) not microsoft. It supports the remote computer, and then forced me to give him my details, name, address, telephone number and age and of course the fool that I am, my credit card number, the penny dropped when he asked the Envoy of money via western union.  When I told her that I was closing the phone call, he told fort and wiped a number of things from my computer, the computer wasn't sure.  I ran my scanner (twice) bullguard, run my anti malware program, changed my password and order my credit card, is there something more I can do?

  To protect yourself, your information and your PC, follow these steps:

  • Change your computer password, change the password on your main email account and change the password for all accounts, including your Bank and credit.
  • Immediately scan your PC with the Microsoft Security Scanner to see if you have the tools malicious/phishing software installed on your PC.
  • As a third step, I recommend that you run the verification of Security Essentials on this page. The check will ensure that the security features in Windows are normally very active and running.
  • Personally, I have a clean Windows installation, because something could have been tampered with.

  Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

  Microsoft issues never not solicited for phone calls of support or security.

  These types of callers can use completely fictitious names or bogusly claim to be of real companies other than Microsoft as well.

  This is a complete scam and one that has become very common these days. . Don't think anything such a caller said, do nothing that he tells you to do and hang up on him immediately.

  At let them into your computer? If you did you are at serious risk for what they could have done it (installed spyware? Identity theft? Steal the passwords?), and I highly recommend that you do the two following:

  1 reinstall Windows properly

  2. change all your passwords, especially those of the financial institutions and online stores.

  As usual, this is another scam.

  Unless you have a support contract prepaid or you raise a support ticket with Microsoft, no Microsoft will call you about the problems with your PC.

  All these crooks are trying to do is access your PC so they can steal your personal data, which is bank details etc. Under no circumstances should allow you remote access to your PC.

  Without that society is not authentic. It's all part of a scam to gain access to your pc and steal your personal data.

  Unless you have a pre-paid with Microsoft, support contract they (Microsoft) will never contact you for problems on your PC.

  You did the right thing by hanging up on them. If that happens again, just ignore them.

  It is a SCAM, you did the right thing hang up on him. He just wanted your information so he could use it for illegal purposes.

  I received a phone call saying he was Microsoft Windows and there are system reported that my computer was full of viruses and malware, and they said that my computer was sending viruses in e-mails that they lock my email account in order to protect others. I then went to my Bank and the cashier told me it was a scam and I got mannaged to cancel the card before it empied my account although New World Services Inc. did take £252.00 my account and told them about the scam and that I don't want there services and do not call me.

  I always get calls saying they are Microsoft Windows or they are malicious and calling about my computer with virus software and when I don't, thank you and hung up there have been moments when someone else says the exact same words as little as an hour later, well that people call regularly as now I know most of them as soon as they speak.

  They installed ammyy to allow access through my firewall to send windows logs them so with selected McAfee frirwall and ammyy blocked as they had shown me the observer of events the adminastrative events and said cuircles reds are virouses and yellow triangles are malware. When I said that the red circle is when I did a forced when troubleshooting stop where I pressed the button for a few seconds.

  Then I got a phone call saying could I turn on my computer as the info from my computer that has virouses and malware had said. If blocking ammyy had worked as before they were able to tell red any yellow order of events. So I then removed my computer ammyy and that they would not receive the ball more.

  When after I dial to get phone calls not the last call, I get when they called and get that they do not have the number of appellants and it has afflicted me that sometimes there was as little as an hour between calls, it seems I'd barr the number of fraudsters and barr New World Services Inc. If they continue to call and if need be I have to change my phone number.

  1. contact your credit card company, if you had given the scammer, your credit card number.

  -Cancel the card and ask for a replacement with different identification number.
  -If you have paid the scammer with your credit card. The card has been compromised.

  2. contact your bank.
  -Change the account.
  -Change the PIN code.

  3. If you saw the crook of remote access to your computer, it is compromised.
  -Reinstall Vista
  -Use another user name and password.

  4. talk to your local law enforcement... If you want to go that far.
  -Ask to speak to people in the Department of wire fraud. See if something can be done about it.

  5. change the phone number.
  -Scammers will call you. They will not stop.
