is flapping between port

I have a particular Vsphere host multiple virtual machines that are spitting out the following message from my cisco 4507 switch:

14:43:00.768 Feb 11 cdt: % C4K_EBM-4-HOSTFLAPPING: 00:50:56:AE:33:4 host in the vlan 8 is flapping between port IG5/3 and 4/IG5

These addresses are three mac on an individual ESX host.  The vsphere host is a blade, its networks comes from an HP Virtual Connect Switch, the two ports providing uplink are configured on cisco 4507 as follows:

Description box ESX

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode trunk

Vsphere host, I have the following Setup for my network server:

Any suggestion on what could be the cause of the error on the switch, I would be very happy

Hello

This isn't a "mistake." The aggregation you configured how load balancing works.

You could look to set up a port on your switch channel to implement team differently.

Currently I see many MAC beat in the log of the switch.  From my understanding, I expect the MAC address out all ports, because that's what'd ESXi when you use 'route based on the hash of the IP.  I'm worried about the impact this might have on the CPU / switch.

  • Problem of NAC OOB - move users between ports

    Hello

I have a problem with an OOB deployment, I am currently working on: when I move an OOB client authenticated from one switch to another, he gets stuck in the auth VLAN. It seems NAC does not correctly detect the new port.

That's what I've done to reproduce the problem in detail:

    (1) a computer is connected to the port switch ' a' market 'A' (A [a]). The port is automatically replaced by auth VLAN and authentication and posture assessment are carried out.

    (2) the computer goes together, and the port is changed to the VLAN designated access. OOB user appears in the list of users online, and the computer is added to the list of discovered Clients (Wired). All the detailed information on the two pages are correct.

    (3) the computer is offline. OOB user is removed from the list of online users, but the computer remains in the list of overdrawn customers.

    (4) the computer is connected to the port 'b' switch 'B' (B [b]). It is automatically replaced by auth VLAN and evaluation of authentication and posture successfully passes once more. However, the information contained in the list of discovered customers are not being updated, and in addition, OOB user appears once more in the users online list-, but the specified location to port A [a]!

The end result is that the computer is stuck in the VLAN Auth and NAC Agent authentication dialogue keeps popping out.

I tried the reverse scenario (port B [b] to port A [a]) after clearing manually the user all customer information and the result was pretty much the same thing...

    Thank you

    Brendan

    Hello

First - beat addresses have nothing to do with the STP or latency.

You can however activate "portfast" on the relevant port, for various reasons it is an improvement of the service.

Heartbeat is normal, it's part of vmware, the sending of two network cards. You can advise the switch it is normal by creating an etherchannel. Note ESXi does not support LACP, so you can run ' mode channel-group 1.

    Hello

You will find what is connected 2960 on gig1/0/51 on the switch. It could be the loop of packets in the network.

Provide output 'show cdp neighbors' 2960 switch.

Also is you can update a topology diagram to know what devices are connected to 2960 on gig1/0/51, gig1/0/16, gig1/0/34, gig1/0/27, gig1/0/25 etc...

  • Multicast flooding all the VLAN Ports

I have three streaming servers.  We have an affair rising gigabit and the other two 100Mbps devices.  Gigabit streaming chassis produced ~ 230Mbps video stream. The other two 100 Mbps devices generate on 50Mbps each.  All water courses are intended to let the N1548 switch via a 10GE interface.  It works, but video streams multicast are also fed to all other ports on the same VLAN.  For this reason, + 200 Mbps gigabit traffic unit is saturating the other two aircraft video 100Mbps of FastEthernet NIC.  I tried to put all the ports in a single protected switchport group, but this did not seem to prevent floods multicast to peer between ports assigned to the same protection group number.  Is there a way to prevent this multicast traffic to broadcast to all ports in the same VLAN, specifically servers independent multicast group IP multicast?  I understand that protected switchport may provide unicast and broadcast on protection and not multicast.

You can consult the document "efficient video Distribution networks with Multicast: IGMP Querier and PIM - DM" downloaded here: "".

    http://en.community.Dell.com/TechCenter/networking/p/guides-legacy#PC

Scenario 2 starting on page 12 shows the steps on how to configure multiple video servers on different VLANS and there are a few test commands to validate the configuration (table 4).

    I hope this helps.

  • SG500 showing the same MAC address on more than one port?

My ISP has been help me solve a problem that we had with an interaction between our SG500 battery on HP customer premises equipment.

I have the stack of SG500 divided into two VIRTUAL LANs. 8-port VLAN11 and the rest on VLAN1. Both are of VLAN native, not marked so they will carry only the traffic for their own VLAN with no mixing. I also route between these VLANs on the stack.

    VLAN11 switch ip: 10.76.20.20

    IP switch VLAN1: 10.1.1.1

I took a port for each VLAN and plugged into the HP PSI switch, where he adapt VLANS separated which then connect to a remote data center through an MPLS.

Here's the question: the SG500 seems to have mac address base on two HP PSI switch ports. This disrupts the HP switch, and I end up having packets to fall into a black hole. This is the output of the switch from HP showing mac based battery SG500 goods between ports in seconds:

HP # display the address mac 8843e1-af7085

    Status and counters - Address-Table - 8843e1-af7085

    MAC address: 8843e1-af7085

HP # display the address mac 8843e1-af7085

    Status and counters - Address-Table - 8843e1-af7085

    MAC address: 8843e1-af7085
    Located on the Port: 11

Any idea what's going on here? It's as if the SG500 uses the MAC even for both its IP addresses.

    Thank you!

Hi Dani, the only MAC address announced by SX300/500 series should be the Mac system if you show on the SX500 mac address table, you should see the MAC even for both VLAN. I don't know why, is to confuse the HP switch unless it does not correctly between switches vlan tag.

  • VLAN protected port and voice

When protected switchport is configured on a switchport (3750G switch), is what affects him vlan voice as well? I currently have protected ports configured, but we'll be adding IP phones soon and would prefer not to have to disable ports protected to allow phone phone voice traffic. I found on cisco.com where a port in a vlan voice can be a protected port, but it does not say if the traffic of phones on the switch is blocked or allowed, just that it can be configured on a protected Harbor.

Thanks for any assistance on this.

    Thank you

    Mark

    Hello

By default, all traffic on a 'protected switchport' interface will be sent for the uplinks. This includes all voice traffic and data from this particular interface.

However, there is a work around available according to your configuration. There is a layer 2 isolation between ports, all traffic to these ports are sent to the uplinks and must be routed from one port to another, even though they may be in the same VLAN. A router is connected to running "proxy arp local' (or local-proxy-arp ip) can respond to ARP requests for IP addresses in a subnet where normally no routing is necessary."

Depending on the connected device, you can have an able to use the local proxy arp feature to get around this VLAN voice. It should be an L3 device with the available command. 3750's take on support this command.

    Hope this helps

  • Is a UPC (Unified Port Controller) of the FI 6200 supports multi protocol port simultaneously?

    Hello a good person.

Is a UPC (Unified Port Controller) of the FI 6200 supports multi protocol ports simultaneously?

For example, the second UPC has 1/9-16. Configure the ports like these? 1/9-10 for the server ports, 1/11-12 for the uplink ports, 1/13-14 for FCoE Uplink ports, 1/15 and 16 for the Uplink FC ports and so on. I know that Cisco Documents describe a port can be configured as server port, FC, FCoE... I "don't not interesting in these gross comments."

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul

In UCS unified configuration of ports is controlled by a scroll bar, as shown here.

There is a fixed configuration for FI ports, then another to the expansion Module. FCoE and Ethernet ports are both type Ethernet from a unified point of view port, CF requires that you select the ports you want to be FC ports.

All ports to the left of the slider bar will be Ethernet, which can also be configured for FCoE, and everything to the right will be CF.  So to answer your specific scenario above Yes. BUT with a caveat.

If you have moved the cursor between port 14 and 15 then left would be Ethernet can be configured as a Server Port, Port Uplink or FCoE port and ports 15 and 16 could be configured as FC ports.  BUT the downside would be that ports 17-32 would also be FC ports and you couldn't get to the Ethernet ports later.  If the port configuration is adjacent to ports on fixed ports, as well as on the extension module.

Best practice is to determine how many FC ports you need and configure each component accordingly.

Here are some details on the guidelines for the unified configuration of Ports.

  • The use of ports Combo SG-300 for the loopback test

    Hello

I have a switch SG300 - 10 p and tries to use it to create a test environment for a Fiber Test set. I want to do is get two hosts, & Abbots, plugged into ports 1 and 3 on the switch, to talk to each other, but forcing traffic routing via two ports Combo 9 & 10. Please see the attached diagram.

I tried to configure two VLANS, 10 and 20. VLAN 10 is used for traffic between Ports 1 and 9, Vlan 20 is used for traffic between Ports 3 and 10.

I really don't like if traffic is marked or not identified as it passes between 9 and 10 ports.

I tried different combinations of ports tag/no identified, PVID, etc.. As a first test, I bypassed the fiber test established and simply created a connection between ports 9 and 10.  I can't get the traffic from host A to host B to get routed through ports 9 and 10 (I ping each host in the other and does not).

Any ideas for how to achieve?

    Thank you

    Maurice Lampell

    Hi Maurice.

I suggest to make sure you are in the current version of the firmware 1.1.1.8.

The current version of the firmware has a CLI supported.

This CLI running configuration is reflected in the GUI and on the other hand, the changes made to the GUI are reflected immediately in the CLI.

Please see the administration guide on how to update the firmware.

    Best regards, Dave

I detect some Don t work ports (I connect to a workstation in the port and the Don t upward, but in the other port if upward)
Could be a hardware failure? or maybe the switch block these ports?

I'm not sure that I fully understand your port problems.  Is this a failure of single port or you have a problem of end-to-end between ports on two different switches?

  • Distributed Port Mirroring on hosts in same vDS

    Hello:

I have two hosts (esx01 and esx02) 5.5 ESXi running connected to the same vDS 5.1.  I have no problem passing traffic between virtual machines that are on different hosts and in the same port group, so I know the vDS does what it is supposed to.  Each host has 8 vmnic and vDS 8 links rising, all set to active.

However, when I install a port mirroring distributed on the vDS and choose a source port and the destination port, I get only the traffic on port of destination if the ports are on the same host.  If the source and destination are on different hosts, no mirror traffic is received.

Sort of, I worked around it by using the following https://everythingshouldbevirtual.com/vmware-vds-rspan-port-mirroring, however, that ends up giving me lots of duplicated packets when I attach to a single connection (probably the switch is to see the input/output traffic on the two vmnic of in the binding rising vDS?)  For each package, I see 8 duplicates.

But it seems to me that it should "work" without having to do anything to miss.  I also tried to look: vSphere 5.1 - VDS - Port Mirroring feature enhancements - part 3 | VMware vSphere Blog - Articles VMware., but with that it seems that are filled with separate vDS, which in this case an RSPAN makes sense to switch to pass traffic.  But in my case, it's a simple switch that is sitting between two hosts connected to the same vDS.

Thoughts or directions to guide me to the answer would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello jmapt,

    Please note the following:

    Page 152:

Distributed Port Mirroring:  Mirror of packages of a certain number of ports distributed to other ports on the same host. If the source and destination are on different hosts, this type of session does not work.

    And:

    vMotion compatibility:

Port mirroring between ports distributed may be local. If the source and destination are on different hosts as a result of vMotion, mirroring between them will not work. However, if the source and destination are moving to the same host, port mirroring works.

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-55/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-551-Networking-Guide.PDF

Good vDS seems to essentially be a single switch is not. The control plan is unique and is driven by vCenter but the real data plan in at the host level, and each host has its own data plan for the vDS. So the underlying terms of data are they different switch running on different hosts.

I try to sync analog entry tasks on two 9188 Chassis utilzing the build in the BNC (PFI 0 and 1) ports.  I also have digital entry spots on the chassis of the master, I want to synchronize. Have been referencing http://www.ni.com/tutorial/5376/en/ and examples, I am not sure I have it set up correctly.

From the link above, I exported the SampleCLK to PFI0 and StartTrig to PFI1 on the chassis of the master.  I have two BNC cables routed between ports on the two chassis.  I put the trigger DAQmx start on the slave to the PFI1 source (this does not seem to do both tasks at the same time), I tried to adjust the pitch of the DAQmx (sample clock) of source PFI0, but it creates an error (requested sample clock source is not valid).

I can get the application of test runs by seting the slave clock "OnboardClock" sample source  When I use this setting, the task two seem to start at the same time, but I don't think the slave chassis uses the master module sample clock and therefore might drift over time?

I would like to know how to properly synchronize the two analog tasks.  I also want to synchronize digital tasks on the main frame with the analog task.

    Hello

If you want to synchronize the two tasks, you share examples of clock and triggers via PFI lines. The only exception is that it is not currently possible to synchronize tasks between the chassis that use AI modules with delta-sigma a/d converters.

  • SMU-8431/8 RS-422 serial card sends the wrong number of bits

I use a card series SMU-8431/8 RS-422 configuration for talking to a camera that has the speed of transmission parameters following 38400, 7 data bits, 1 stop bit, odd parity. I confirmed that the device certainly has these settings I can communicate with him using a separate Linux PC.

When I try to use the serial port of EITHER the device does not react. Then, I connected the serial port OR on my Linux PC to see which sent the port NO. It is garbage. Nonprinting characters, control commands and the other characters are converted (for example I send the ascii character '1' and get the ascii character 'a').

I made sure to add the terminating resistor 120 ohm NI RX + RX-lines and as mentioned in other posts on these forums, but it is only for the reception and did not solve the problem.

I put a scope on the TX + and TX-lines from the map OR track seems reasonable that sent bits is correctly 38400 and voltage levels are correct moving between +/-3V. What I've noticed, is that the map series, NEITHER seems to be send to the 11 data bits. I expect 10-bit (1 start bit, 7 data, 1 parity, and 1 stop). I changed to 8 and then 6 bits of data and the total number sent passes to 12, then 10, respectively.

I get the same behavior if I use Labview screws, Panel VISA for the port of MAX, or to remove the software NOR entirely and use Hyperterminal. This would seem to indicate that the problem is something in the settings of low level on the card itself.

I tried a second SMU-8431/8 card and the same results, this isn't a fault map (may be two defective cards, I guess!).

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Ian

Discovered it was: used a scope to view the track both the Linux PC and the serial port OR to compare. The trace OR was significantly longer than the Linux. When I measured the width of the track OR whole, it worked to have a frequency of about 33 000, or much less that the 38400 assigned him. I was getting the wrong characters every bit of data from the port because NEITHER was out of sync with the Linux PC.

I increased the port baud rate NOR and found that setting in 45 000 made it align correctly the Linux PC and I now the communication between the two devices.

For the record, I don't have the terminating resistor 120 ohm or the anchor line to be included in the cable series between ports OR and Linux.
