Is it possible to install a new HDD without having to re - install Windows and all my programs?

original title: upgrade hardrive

Hi all.

I recently bought a laptop Gateway M285/convertible. I seeks to increase the size of my hard drive and did not want to pass by and reinstall all software.

I heard that there are still some "ghost" image copy autour software and wanted to know what it would take if I go buy a hard drive, to copy the picture from the existing to the new drive and then simply drive insert the new drive and operate. Or is it possible?

I am running vista professional, sp2, I think (just what is the latest sp).

Thank you.

Locate the drive you want to buy the laptop for top-sizing of HD. Go to the web site of the manufacturer of the drive. Locate and download the software copy/clone your original drive to the new drive. Burn this on a DVD software by following the instructions provided. To copy the current drive. Then remove, insert the new drive and booting.

You will have a way to mount the new drive for the copy. For many, the best solution is to put it in an external enclosure USB-connect. When you remove the drive to replace the drive in the laptop, you can put the 'old' drive in as a backup, or, after you remove all the files once you are sure that the new drive works properly, use user files or backups systerm.

I probably gave more details that you need, but it is.

Good luck

    Hello

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key determines which Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

  • Install windows and run via an external usb drive

I have windows7 and use laptop Dell 5110. the hard drive of the laptop does not work and that the hard drive on this laptop is good inside - you must remove the motherboard keyboard and all - it involves a lot of work to do. I'm not very good at this and would not take the risk to do this to replace the hard drive. I have the drive seagate external hard and wants to use it as the main drive and install Windows and all programs, with the USB connection. Windows 7 does not normally install on the external hard drive. y at - there no way to get around this without completely going to replace the hard drive.
    Thank you for your support.

You can do it, but it requires that you have Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise or Windows 8:

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 on Satellite Pro 6100

Is it possible to install windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite pro 6100 computer? I am currently using windows XP.

    Thank you.

    Hey Buddy,

Do you really think on installing Windows 7 over several years old Satellite Pro 6100?

In my opinion, it won't work because it is too old and not fast enough. Newer operating system that is supported by Toshiba is Windows XP and this should be the best choice for good old classic.

So just to be satisfied with Windows XP, it's a good choice for older computers! :)

    Hello

Yes, it is possible to install Win 7 on this laptop.
If drivers Win 7 are not released on the European driver Toshiba page, then you will need to collect the drivers of your own hands.

  • Satellite L650-14F - it is possible to install Windows XP

Hello and sorry for my language.

It is possible to install Windows XP on this laptop?
I have the Satellite L650-14F and I want to install XP 64. but the problem is, with the drivers. are they compatible?

    Help, please
    Thank you

Yes, you can install Win xp on this laptop, but you will need to use the drivers for Win XP 64-bit.

European driver Toshiba page provides accurate drivers for 32it version, so you have to collect drivers 64-bit with your own hands...

But to be honest; I do not recommend using Win XP 64 bit... either you choose 32 bit or Win 7 64 bit.

Win XP 64 bit was not so popular as the 32-bit version and most of the applications and the software is compatible with the 32-bit version.

You will need to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It will inform you whether or not you can run Windows 7.

In regards to your personal files, they must be saved on a device external or other removable media. This is because you can not 'upgrade' itself from Xp to Windows 7. It requires a clean install which means that all data on the hard disk is deleted during the installation of 7...

Installation of Windows Xp from a usb key involves a lot more than simply copy the files from one windows on a USB disk. It is much more difficult than don't imagine most (but not impossible). I did it a few times. Read the instructions on the two links below. The first link below is your best bet. You are not likely to do things immediately. It's ok, we are here...

It is possible to install Windows XP in Windows 8 Pro to work together. If so, how?

You would have a better chance, installation of Windows 7. Many modern systems that are preinstalled with Windows 8 do not support Windows XP. Its too old. There is probably no support driver is (you can always try your luck and see your computer manufacturer web site).

If you upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8, your system would be of course compatible Windows XP. In this case, you will need to redo the installation by installing Windows XP first, then Windows 8 after.

  • How can I MOVE buttons on taskbar to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want?

I like to keep the buttons in my taskbar has organized with the browser and messaging on the left, followed by Windows Explorer and other items. If they get out of order or programs are loaded into a different order, how can I MOVE the buttons to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want? In addition, sometimes, one of program buttons seems in itself to migrate out of place and I need to get back to where it should be: same problem.

    Hi shohareZohre

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!

The task bar is the horizontal bar at the bottom of your screen time. In contrast to the office, which can get obscured by the windows on top of it, the taskbar are visible nearly all the time. It includes four main sections:

    ·         The Start button, which opens the start menu.

    ·         The Quick Launch bar, which allows you to start programs with a single click.

    ·         The middle section, which shows you what programs and documents you have open and allows you to quickly switch between them.

    ·         The notification area, which includes a clock and icons (small pictures) that communicate the status of certain programs and computer settings.

Add or remove programs on the Quick Launch toolbar

The Quick Launch toolbar is located on the task bar and is a convenient way to open programs. You can add or remove program icons in the Quick Launch toolbar so that you have easy access to the programs that you use frequently.

To add a program icon to the Quick Launch toolbar

Click the icon for the program to add (you can find most icons of programs on the start menu or the desktop) and then drag it to the Quick Launch toolbar.

Note: If you don't see the toolbar tools quick launch, right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, click Toolbars, and then click quick launch.

To remove a program to the Quick Launch toolbar icon

Right-click on the icon of the program and then click Remove.

Notes: ·         Delete an icon from the taskbar does not remove its corresponding computer program.

    ·         If you want to stop showing a toolbar on the taskbar, right-click an empty area of the taskbar, point to toolbars, and then click the item that you want to stop broadcasting.

NOTE: The ability to move the programs in the taskbar is not possible in windows Vista but the same functionality is available in Windows 7. Please see the link below.
