is it possible to load Windows XP Home edition on VISTA installed on a laptop?

Hello!.. My son bought a laptop preloaded using widows vista sp2.  We are more familiar with WXP & would like to know if there is a way we can load from an installation disc. at the present time, we receive an error message "NTLDR is missing press c + a + d to restart", but it is not & cannot fix it because we do not have a vista disc.

any help is appreciated... Thank you!   :)

You can order recovery of the computer disks laptop manufacturer or a third party such as Recovery - Disks.com for a small fee.  The problem with installing XP on the laptop, it's that the manufacturer may not have written the device drivers for XP.  You will need to check the Web site.

If the copy of XP is the one that came with another computer, you can not use it on the laptop in all cases.  Copies of OEM Windows are not transferable to another computer.

You don't give enough details on the brand and model of the laptop or the XP "installation disk" to give a more detailed response.

You can also use in the Vista system repair and recovery forum in the

  • Is it possible to upgrade Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 has to Service Pack 3?

I have the original disc of the product. It came as Windows XP SP1a. At in the past (a few years ago), I've upgraded to SP2. I started to receive a STOP error message. I tried to repair the installation of Windows XP Edition family. I can't say for sure right now, but it seems that SP2 just disappeared..., do not know immediately. I always face the STOP error.

When I get things and rerun, can I put SP1a directly to SP3? I don't know the rules relating to the upgrade.

Ask the same question in a different way..., can I've actually updated to SP3 Service Pack while jumping on SP2?

Windows XP Home Edition has always been easy to use. I wouldn't lose it.

The answer could be just a YES or a no thank you for your time.

I don't know the rules relating to the upgrade.

  • Satellite C660-108 - Windows XP Home Edition does not install

I try to install Windows XP Home Edition on a Toshiba Satellite C660-108, without success.

I changed the BIOS disk in "Compatibility" mode (what is the same thing as "Legacy IDE"?) by following the instructions on a Yahoo Answers question on the same issue.

What has improved the situation, in what I now get an error message a few minutes after installing XP said "Starting Windows" instead of immediately after. The error message is the same that I have already received and is as follows:

"A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer...". "Technical information: * STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D663C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Luke

PS - I'm a mac user and do not have much experience in the use of Windows laptops, so I need instructions spelled out clearly enough if possible.

The error could be related to drive HARD and the setting in the BIOS of the controller...
Probably, you need to install Win XP using SATA AHCI mode and to add the driver SATA as described here:

  • Drivers Toshiba for Windows XP Home edition and VISTA fpr a Satellite Pro P100 - PSPAH

    Hello.

I need help. I bought a Satellite pro P100 - PSPAH with Vista Premium Home edition version of recovery. Now, I want to install a second operating system such as Windows XP Home edition on this laptop. The problem is that Windows XP Home edition did not find 3 drivers. For sound, LAN and another device. For this reason I update my notebook with the latest chipset drivers, but the problem is still there. Vista now has problems with the drivers, too. I can't find the special driver on toshiba home page.

    Jens MFG

    Hello

I understand your problem at the moment that I also prefer XP instead of Vista operating system.
Vista needs simply too many resources for laptop and all applications and 3rd devices are not 100% supported by Vista.

But what say man seems to find compatible drivers on chip manufacturing sites.
Download and install a tool called Everest or other similar hardware diagnostic tool and try to find out what LAN and sound chips are used in your laptop!
Then, you can search drivers Intel, Realtek, etc... pages

You know the website driver Toshiba Canada?
    http://209.167.114.38/support/download/ln_byModel.asp

There you will find also some Pro P100 series. Try these drivers. It's worth a try.

I bought my new laptop in 2006, yes I know this is old, and never noticed that on the bottom was a trial for windows xp home edition key.  What is this for? How to use it?

That's when you need to reinstall Windows and when the manufacturer installs Windows XP on your system.

  • I have a Pavilion n1610n. I have loaded Windows XP Home Edition. I can't access the Internet.

It is an old computer. I replaced the HD and loaded a copy of XP Home Edition instead of the Media Center edition which originally came with the computer because I didn't want to not all garbage programs.

Count it wants to connect via the "1394 connection" instead of Ethernet, under 'network adapters '.

I tried to update the driver.

My problem was the lack of any service packs. I downloaded SP2 on a different computer and it burned on a CD. I installed SP2 from the CD on HP computer, and then install the chipset driver. Now I have the internet connection.

Thanks for the reply and the link to the driver.

  • Cannot load Windows XP Home Edition on portege 7140

In the configuration of the BIOS for my toshiba portege 7140, I can't change the settings for the DVD-ROM/Docking station. I have a new hard drive I can't install windows xp on, because the cd/dvd player will not play (it starts to spin then stops). Even with my old hard drive with xp on it, I couldn't drive to game/recognize any CD.

I had bought a new larger hard drive (40 GB, as opposed to the old 6 GB one) but impossible to install windows on it because I can not install from the CD. Even if I already downloaded of the Setup files from disk, I need to finish the process of the XP install disk, but I can't.

I'm unable to find or change the bios settings to solve this problem.

    Hi Mitchell,

I don't know what parameters in the BIOS you want to change for your optical drive. How are you optical drive connected to your laptop, it is USB or built in?

It would be better to get your drive working properly with your existing 6 GB HARD drive before trying to re - install XP on your new HARD drive.

  • Korean version of Windows XP Home Edition, need to install the language English for Windows

I tried all methods to install English through regional options, install the update patch and also installing Microsoft Desktop language settings change. None of this works and there seems to be no English language pack and MUI is only for Windows XP Professional not personal.

I went and changed the menus of the tab Advanced English-United States and the regional tab. Is that all I can install it. In addition the tab details and the English set as default language. Yet all my Windows apps and windows are Korean.

    What can I do?

I'm sorry, but as you know the MUI is only for XP Pro. You will need to either buy XP Home in English and do a clean install or upgrade to XP Pro Korean and get the language packs. (You cannot spend the Korean House in English Pro.) MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Windows 7 Home Edition premium clean install.

    Hi all!

I have all the disks when I bought my hp laptop. I have hp´s original windows image build inside my laptop if I have to reinstall windows. Problem is this factory image I have is "very old".

When I use it, I have to use programs own old half day that comes with the image. It's not really a clean install when I have to uninstall and reinstall all the programs is? Image of the plant also have programs, I never even use that they would know.

    My question is simply that:

Am I right to / can I download somewhere legal copy of windows (home premium 64-bit) and use my active product id windows? What about other programs within the original image?

I have the pc hp pavilion dv7 laptop.

Sorry for the bad English and thanks in advance

    -Surtuko

Yes, you can download a copy of W7 OEM and use your product key that is located on the sticker.

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-Windows-7-SP1-ISO-from-Digital-River/

Unfortunately, HP does not include pre-installed software downloads and I don't know anyway to extract the recovery image.

The "swsetup" on the C drive folder can have some software installers pre-installed in there, save this file to another storage device before installing clean.

  • I have Windows Vista and you need to install Windows XP Home Edition. Vista doesn't let me. What can I do? I need XP for my Quick Books program in order to make books. Please help me.

This computer was given to me by my kids.  I had with Windows Vista already installed.  I also want to install Windows XP to my Quick Books program.  Vista will not let me install XP.  Can you help me?

    Hello

You don't say how you are trying to install XP and if the manufacturer of your computer has XP drivers available for this purpose to activate XP to be installed and run successfully on this subject.

You will need to go to their website where there should be a section to see if they have XP drivers for your model computer.

If they have XP drivers available for it, follow the instructions in these links provided in its response to dual boot Vista and XP:

    http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystep_guide.htm

    http://www.syschat.com/dual-boot-Vista-XP-Vista-already-1946.html

I prefer the Instructions in the second link.

Here's another consideration on the use of the XP Compatibility Mode in Vista for QuickBooks, but as I don't use QuickBooks, you will need to request support QuickBooks if it would work in this way.

I try to Dban my TOSHIBA SATA hard drive that came standard with my laptop
But Dban won't work for 5 seconds
Then I just tried to install Windows XP Home edition on the D: drive and it loaded in all the file system then stops and says that it cannot find and hard drive for corn on...
I also ran seagate daignosts tool to see if it was just my hard drive. But it passes all the tests.

I rang a maintence mobile place... and they said that's not the hard drive... It's the BIOS.
They said I need to get a cancellation of BIOS and drivers WXP chipset for my laptop.
Then run the BIOS and then install Windows XP Home edition and they said it will ask for the chipset.
