Is it possible to migrate ESXi host between data centers, if so please provide a brief not

Hi friends,

1. is it possible to migrate ESXi host between data centers, if so please provide a brief walking distance.

2 can we perform vMotion and Storage vMotion while ESXi is turned on.

3. is it possible to extend the VMDK disk while it integrates snapshots in it.

Best regards,

Sirot Vijay

Yes the vmotion and svmotion works but one by one.

1 - vmotion is posssible to power on State, but you can't svmotion the vm simultaneously. The storage will remain same

2 svmotion is also possible to power on the State, but you cannot vmotion virtual machine simultaneously. the host will remain the same.

3 vmotion and svmotion is possible together when the vm is off power. the host and storage can be changed simultaneously on this State.

  • Heart rate between data centers

    Hello

I made a VMware installation only when we have two datacenters with a host and a disk on each data center system, vi have 2 x 4 GB FC between data for the availability of the storage centers and we have 2 x 1 Gbit L2 connections between data (network, vmotion and HB) centers.

Now my problem is pulsation HA making only redundant you normally just add two natachasery to the switch, but in my case I need to run my heart rate on two different VLANS to ensure that it also works on different connections between data centers.

If I just add another service console and configure a new vlan with default gateway, dose anyone know if it will work?

    Hello

We recently had a data center move and moved some exadata machines to a new location.

    There are a few things to consider before the move is going;

    (1) prepare the network on the new data center and make sure all connectivity (for example, you can remote access to it) work.  In our case, the new centre has same network IPs.

    (2) download the seller who transported material Machines.

    (3) on the last day before moving, stop the Exadata Machine (close the database, RAC nodes db stop, knots of cell, endless tape etc...)

    (4) turn off the Exadata Machine

    (5) disconnect all network cables.

    (6) let the equipment cool.

    (7) transportation to the new location and move the machine to fix the Bay and wait for the machines to be acclimated

    (8) connect the network cables.

    (9) power on Exadata.

  • Clone between data centers and through the firewall?

I have a VC that manages 8 virtual data centers.  Some of these data centers are on a dish network, and some are in a demilitarized zone.  Even if the storage is NOT shared between data centers, I am able to clone a VM between data on food networks centers but I cannot clone between a data center on a dish network and the other in a demilitarized zone.

Is there a specific port that must be open to clone through a firewall, or I wouldn't be able to do this.

  • Difference of ESXi hosts between analysis of updates and patches of scene

    Hello

I have two ESXi hosts with round about 700 applicable patches.

What is the difference between "stage Patches"und"search for updates"?

Do I need maintenance mode for the scene fixes?

    Kind regards

    Roland

    screenshot.jpg

    Hello

Scan for updates will scan the hosts against the basic lines of patch you have attached to them and to report on the status of this host against the base line, so, essentially, Scan for updates will tell you what patches and updates to your departure are absent from the host if the return "non-compliant" or "compliant" if all patches are already installed.  It can also return 'Unknown' or 'Inconsistent' according to the status of the host and other factors.

Step will basically copy all files to update and patch that must be installed to the willing host for the conversion, which will be more actually to install patches.  Staging of updates to date does not make service, you don't need to put the host in maintenance mode, while the staging, the host must be in service during the reclamation mode.  You can trigger a reorganization without staging, but the benefit of the staging is, first of all, you will reduce the amount of time that your host is out of action because all patches and updates are already in place in anticipation of final approval, which means that the rehabilitation phase is much faster.

    I hope this helps.

  • Migrate ESX hosts between vCenters

    Hello

I was instructed to spend our ESX 3.5 hosts the old VirtualCenter 2.5 to a fresh vCenter 4.0.

The problem lies in the migration of the ESX hosts without interruption of service. If I had the ability to paralyse an ESX or VMotion their stop, I would have done this, but the old VC2.5 is corrupted and does not allow this.

I got 2 new boxes, a new box that will become the new VC4.0 and a new ESX 4.0 host.

My plan is to migrate the hosts of the old VC2.5 to the new VC4.0 to disconnect the current vcenter and then simply adding them in the new VC4.0. After Google'ing a bit, I found that this is however not the easiest of tasks when I can not close the guests during the transition.

Is it possible, such as disconnection, uninstall or remove users VC2.5 then import the ESX in the new VC4.0?

Once the ESX is completed in vCenter 4.0, there VMotion and all the fancy stuff that are broken in our current configuration of VC2.5.

When guests are over, they will also be cleaned and installation from scratch with ESX 4.0 Update 1 + firmware upgrades, which they have unfortunately not been considered with for a long time.

    Thanks in advance for answers!

a simple disconnect/remove existing vCenter.  Then add the host to the new.  When you add the host, it will upgrade the agent of vpx and reconfigure for HA.

    Concerning

Maybe this file are simply zombie files, generated cause an improper shutdown of the VM (take a look at the date of creation/modification of files). You can try to rename these files, if you are able to do so, these files aren't really in use. After you rename and make sure that the virtual machine works as expected, you can manually delete the files.

    EXAMPLE OF

License is good for 30 CPU; s

    host b gets 2

    c host gets 2

    DC - 2

    host a get 4

    host b get 4

    DC-3

    host a get 8

    host b gets 8

    Perfectly legal or?

Also - if you have 20 2 CPU licenses can we swap to 1 20 CPU license? Actually more simple license management.

From a technical point of view, you can combine or divide licenses required in your My VMware portal. However, there may be legal restrictions, such as the use of licenses in the regions and counties other than where the licenses were purchased.

  • VMotion between data centers

We are constructing a new environment VI 3.5 that will match our new approved conformity existing SOPS all of the virtual machine in the environment will have to be moved off the power as soon as the new cluster\datacenter is built.  I am trying to determine the practical way of best\most to do - what I'm basically not clear is if I can migrate a virtual machine between 2 data centers or not.

Any help on how best to do that is very appreciated-

    Steve

wouldn't that be nice.  You can always stop the virtual machine and a cold migration.

  • Unable to start the virtual machine after Migration - ESXi hosts

Last night I wanted to move a virtual machine to a host of test to a production cluster.  All hosts (test and production) have shared access to the same LUN, so I usually am able to simply remove the virtual machines of the inventory in the test environment and add them to the production environment by accessing the .vmx on the data store file.  Two of the 3 hosts migrate perfectly and are running in the production environment.  However, the third server, while the migration starts.

First he gave me errors that it was missing some files.  The only thing I did was different to rename the folder for the virtual machine on the data store.  It was called 'New Virtual Machine' for a reason, so I renamed it to "Antivirus."  However, something strange happened.  Instead of renaming the folder, it seems was created a new folder named "Antivirus" and the old folder 'New Virtual Machine' was still there.  In addition, the renamed folder 'Antivirus' had only SOME of the files needed.  So I just copied from the old folder in the folder "Antivirus" and he hung up the virtual disk of 20 GB file.  So I closed the VI client and checked the vdmk 20 GB folder and back this morning is in the folder with other files.  However, when I try to start the virtual machine, I get the "cannot access a file because it is locked" error message.

I've done some detective and I noticed that in my second datastore where was the other folder vdmk, the file was now .40kB in size.  Looks like I've lost my other vdmk folder.  What happens here?

It looks that the virtual machine was still running when you tried to change the name, so the old folder could not be renamed because of the lock. That's why a new folder has been created instead, and why your vm hung on the vmdk file until the lock has been released. Don't know what happened to the 2nd vmdk file, but the file vmware.log in virtual machine directory must have some info as to why does not start the virtual machine. If the 2nd vmdk is gone, this might be a reason.
