  Yes.  There are several alternatives.  I found a way relatively inexpensive, using a map of mSATA (very small SSD) and an adapter to connect it to the connector IDE 44 pin internal of my PowerBook.  It works very well.  Rather than repeat what I posted previously, you can watch these two topics (which also has good info, other users)

  I've had my Toshiba A200 - 1 M 8 for two years now and everything was going well until one day, while working on this subject, it is just went down. The arrested LEDs had any, even when not connected to the power supply and the laptop wouldn't start.   We were all new at one point, so don't worry what you know.  Win 8 is compatible with all previous OS.  It supports C++, and depends on your video card supports DIrectX 9, 10 and 11.

  The only thing that doesn't come with win 8 (and since you bought it, it may already be installed) is windows media player.

  What exactly are you trying to do, or can you give us more information for we can help you better?
