Is Lightroom 4 a Devourer of memory?

One of my colleagues at work keeps insisting that Lightroom 4 is a Devourer of memory and slows everything and insists I've got close while he was working on Photoshop. It seems to me that Photoshop needs more power horse and is a hit parade on the performance of the processor and memory. Anyone can provide information about this so I can go to the boss and give specific information.

Lightroom is very greedy in CPU, the faster and more better carrots. But I've never seen consume more than about 4 GB of RAM (same great export runs files D800). Yes No. hogs memory.

Photoshop is the exact opposite. Not too high demands on the CPU, but it eats memory, up to the limit of allowance you set in preferences (after which he gets swapped to disk).

One thing about Photoshop is that it has no shared memory when you close a file. It is reused, and this is normal (it would be much slower in the opposite case). People sometimes confuse this leak memory, which is not. But he sometimes makes life difficult for other applications that are open at the same time.

  • Last imported files are not in Lightroom 6 - unless I have Lightroom start by entering the memory card into the reader

I encountered this problem a few times. Earlier I see the pattern more clearly, so that I can report.

I imported a large number of files of several memory cards. The files are added to several files in my Windows - using Lightrooms import directory.

After that, I made some sort / rating / editing etc. - a lot of work.

    Everything seems to be.

But when I start then Lightroom newer forlders aren't in the LR catalog - records are not presented for me, the last import appears as an greater import at all at the time.

New files are always hard disk - but seems to be "forgotten" by Lightroom - and all my editing etc seems to be lost!

Only if I start Lightroom by entering the memory card in the card reader, which automatically start Lightroom, I can see the files and my new editing work in Lightroom.

I tried several times with or without the memory card. The boss agrees.

I checked: no data was written on the card during the import or change, so I don't understand about the effect of the memory card.

I need help to understand and solve this problem.

Your show screen says 5 Lightroom but your post title says Lightroom 6.  You have both installed?  Perhaps the fault is opened.  You show also 197 missing pictures. Just right-click one of them and don't 'Show in Explorer.

  • 2015 CC Lightroom uses 6.9 GB memory

I avoided the Lightroom upgrade incrementally, and it seems that my fears are justified with the stupid realease of the LR version there is an update,.
I thought, based on the lackluster of Adobe, the problems have been addressed and fixed, so I made the last update.

I should have stuck to my guns

LR has apparently leaking memory, in addition to slow well documented on my Win 7 64 bit machine with 32 GB of memory (and the gpu acceleration turned off)
When I use LR, as now for example open a catalog (new catalogs for each event, not a single large) the system shows a use of 4,09 GB memory

Forget when I export my system complete, robust measure, grinds a setback so he was trying to deal with export 7 jobs at a go-I-I NEED to tell the first CC LR did NOT have this problem, nor LR 5.7
When I say grinds to halt, is it even causes my video to twinkle, is it possible that this version 2015.2.1 LR, is still so ridiculously buggy it causes all these problems? Or is it possible that Adobe is simply not test their products enough on Windows platforms?

Yes, many photographers use Windows Adobe, some of us prefer even it... This didn't not is a rant against Apple, but a real question...

WTF's going on with the 6.9 GB of memory usage?

How to stop it or at least back to version 5.7 and later tell this version of 2015? This is difficult because so many catalogues are now "upgraded" in LR 2015.2.1 version

    Thank you

  • How to stop Lightroom to launch with insert memory card?

I just bought a new Vista 64 computer and installed Lightroom 2. When I go into preferences and TURN OFF the "lightroom automatically open with card insert memory" and close Lightroom relaunch, he comes back to be checked. Thank you.

This is a bug. Apparently, it will be fixed in the next version (2.5), which can come around October/November (guess the release normal cycle)

  • 10 Windows, system and process compressed memory & slow down the performance of Lightroom

I use Lightroom 6.6 (non - CC version) and for months, I have noticed the degradation in performance on my machine Windows 10 the more Lightroom runs. LR restarts solves the problem for a while, but anywhere from minutes to an hour, Lightroom performance down to the level where it becomes unusable.

Finally, I think I found a reproducible indicator in the Task Manager which may lead to the reason for this - it seems to be linked to the process "System and compressed memory" which is new for Windows 10. Maybe it's a coincidence, it could be the correlation instead of causation - but that's what I want to know.

When I start Lightroom and edit some pictures, everything seems normal in the Task Manager:

    17-07-2016 00-59-41.png

Lightroom uses about 6 GB of memory, which is OK, as I 24GO of RAM in my machine. The mentioned system and compressed memory process currently maintains that a low profile with the use of memory 204 MB and Lightroom performs well at this point.

Some pictures later, however, things start to get worse:

    17-07-2016 01-09-15.png

The system and compressed memory process increases its memory footprint and Lightroom memory footprint decreases. At this point, I think Lightroom is already slower - but this could be just imagination. It isn't so bad so I can be sure that it really is.

But a few minutes and retouching of photos later, system and compressed memory past Lightroom in the memory usage and which are how things always become really bad:

    17-07-2016 01-37-54.png

System and compressed memory draws a memory more and more away from Lightroom, and meanwhile, Lightrooms performance is killed. As I understand the system and memory tablet, it's intent is to compress the memory instead of disk paging-, but it seems he has high performance here and there of the implications would not even be necessary to page or compress memory because there were a lot:

    17-07-2016 01-38-08.png

Perhaps a Windows problem, may be a Lightroom problem - chances are, it's a combination of the two. With 24 GB RAM and Lightroom be gourmet applications in memory just running, this should not occur or cause problems. I use other applications in memory such as Visual Studio, or sometimes first - this does not occur when you use this application.

I can't believe I'm the only one knows than that on Windows 10 - yet I have not found much about it online, just a few remarks on this subject in some support threads here and there, but no solution.

So-, here is my question d ' others have experienced this too? Someone was able to get this under control? It's really frustrating relaunch Lightroom every 30 to 60 minutes to get a good performance.

    Thanks for the tips

    b.

There is a leak memory known in Lightroom 6.6. You might want to try to go back to Lightroom 6.5.1 and see if the problem goes away. See How do I restore a previous version of Lightroom? The Lightroom Queen and where it says Lightroom 6.1.1 you insert Lightroom 6.5.1

I reinstalled my computer just after doing a few hardware upgrades (12 GB - > 16GB, 500GB SSD, new video card) and now if Lightroom works for about 30-40 minutes, Windows warns me that my system is out of memory.

I suggest rolling back to LR CC 2015.4 as described here:

Roll of Lightroom version prior update

  • Lightroom 2015.3 CC constantly crashing: 'your system's short-term memory application

I installed 2015.2 CC Lightroom in September on a brand new MacBook with 256 Gb SSD on OS X 10.10.5. My photos are on a Tb SSD Transcend 1. This platform is purely for the treatment of the photo.

Shortly after I had a problem ("your system has run out memory of the application") that I raised with Adobe, through their Support/Chat. It is a contact with a chain of people who each asked me to remind the problem and he never spoke. The last of them says it's the Mac with a leak in the memory.  I gave up, then quickly noticed a LR update to v. 2015.3 was available on CC. Support Office failed to mention the update.

So I downloaded and have been running Lightroom CC 2015.3 for several weeks without problem. It seems to have solved the problem.

But yesterday, I had just started video in the module slideshow (30 photos) when I got out of memory dialog box again.   Force to stop everything except LR and then resumption of the LR has allowed him to continue for several seconds until the message 'application' out of memory ' appeared again.

I then rebooted the Mac and LR several times and this was always the 'out of memory' accident, even with just the Finder and LR running.  Only force them to leave LR allows you to reboot the machine.  If Lightroom = 100% unusable.

The preference 'Use a graphics card' is not defined.

    lr-force-quit-b1.jpg

Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled LR.  Using the same catalog LR crashed whenever it was launched.

Preferences of LR "System info" shows that this time LR crashed he used 197 GB of virtual memory.  (The figure starts small and quickly rises.)

    lr-system-info-b.jpg

At the same time the memory of LR reported by OS X's Activity Monitor rises also regularly and quickly 250 MB or more, in this case, to 65 GB... When the message "' not enough memory ' appeared.

    lr-activity-monitor-b1.jpg

Today, I decided to try again with a catalog of backup LR 2 days ago. No immediate problem with memory except that I noticed that LR has opened in the slideshow module. I is not long in the library and develop create a new collection.  A few seconds after powering down movie Export, LR crashed with the same problem of memory.

So, it seems that this is related to something in the film of the slideshow module Export function.  A Force quit of LR and restart seemed OK, even if she opened in the show, but this time it has not crashed.  I was able to export the collection and now quickly produced a slide show in Photos from Apple, that's at least reliable.

When Adobe will come out a version of Lightroom that runs under OS X and reliable product of movies?

Whatever the problem is, I'm losing time and patience with Lightroom.

OK, I burned my slide show twice successfully without problem.

Lightroom uses real max 18% memory and virtual memory less than 4 GB.  The largest consumer of resource has been amecommand to 2.42 GB.

    So good fix Tanuj, Bravo.

    But...

1 when is Adobe going to this catastrophic recurring problem?

2 are supposed to search in cache files all the time.

    Please notify.

    Thanks Tanuj once again.

  • How to increase the use of the memory of a program like FaceBook

When I'm on FaceBook my AVG program gets up and tells me that I am a program memory of high volume and I have to close and reopen the FaceBook.  How can I increase my use of memory for FaceBook?

I really don't see how you can get good advice with so little information.

You can always get things to try that might work sometimes may, and if dig you into the AVG forums, you'll see that AVG have reported problems of memory is quite common.

Read in the AVG forums, it seems also have nothing to do with the size of your swap file and you should refrain from making adjustments in the pagefile because "someone told me of" (it's not a good reason).   Instead, you must provide information about your current situation and see if we have to make an adjustment or not.  If your swap file needs to be adjusted, you will usually get an informational message like that (which is NOT an error):

Virtual memory minimum too low: your system is low on virtual memory.  Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file.

This means that Windows XP is to let you know that he does his work.  The message is not an error message - this is an informational message.

AVG is a Devourer of memory resources known and gets the biggest and more hungry all the time and many people posting on the Internet and in the forums of AVG support with issues that sound like yours give up everything AVG all together and move to something like Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), which is less than a hog memory.

In the AVG forums, you can find more ideas like this:

Please be informed that AVG 2012 includes a new Advisor AVG feature. It is designed to warn the user that there could be a leak memory in your browser (in a script or a flash in a website visited, respectively). AVG records an average amount of memory used by a browser and check the value when using the browser. In case the consumption of memory significantly increases, the user is informed of possible memory leak. Browser restart is recommended in these cases.
Please see an example of informative window advise AVG here

You may also have too many processes hungry memory running on your system, and we don't know anything about your system.  We do not know how much you have now, the size of your current paging file, your browser memory - basically, we do not know jack.

    What a pity.

Bottom line of doing a little research:

I doesn't sound like you have a XP problem - looks like you have a very common problem of AVG.

Here is the link to the AVG Support Forums where experts hang out:

  • Symantec AntiVirus eating too much memory?

So I install a program Labview newspapers data and send the data by email, on a ship using the internet satellite. If the internet sat fails, the e-mail will be 2G of the PC memory store.

So the client IT guy request will be Symantec antivirus (which requires 2G memory according to him) devours Labview memory and cause program Labview to plant a few weeks later?

Have you guys have a bad experience with Symantec AntiVirus crashing Labview? Or firewall from Symantec blocking the transmission of e-mails of Labview and stuff like that?

    Thank you.

If Symantec AntiVirus actully used 2G of RAM, then it would prevent virisues as 2G is the set of address space available under Windows with the help of special switches.

So the number 2G must mean disk space.

Make sure that you are logged on as user privlged and look for the pop - ups on firewall blocks and let.

If you miss, you can go back to the system log and find the problem, and then manually configure your firewall.

Delete the cache of your preview. It could slow Lightroom for a while that it re - generates your insights, but it should solve the problem.

Go in the same folder that contains your catalog file, delete the file whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Do not remove anything else.

  • Lightroom CPU 100% if only the contents of the folder display

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

My CPU is spiking to 100% while Lightroom is open. This happens in almost every process, but even when I only change between folders, while not doing any other Lightroom processes.

Peaks in the processor every time I change folders until all thumbnails are rendered. For example, to a folder with 40 photos, CPU spikes at 100% for 50 seconds until what it renders all the previews. If I click another folder, and then return to the previous folder, it stings again for 5 to 20 seconds. I tried building 1:1 on both files, each with about 50 photos. It always stings at 100% for a few seconds when moving from one folder to another even if all the 1:1 model are visible.

Any process of Lightroom also causes the CPU to boost 100% and a delay in the Lightroom UI. For example, undo a crop on a single photo that has a 1:1 Preview may take 20 seconds during which the CPU is at 100%. I'm not run programs at the same time. I tried this so my antivirus and firewall and other background programs are disabled - no change.

This behavior is observed on a new computer, I bought in December 2015, especially purchased to improve performance with Lightroom. Unfortunately, it is all too slow on my new computer. I'm trying to figure out if there is a problem with the settings on my new computer or a defective hard drive should I replace or Lightroom. I didn't notice the tips with other programs when Lightroom is not open. Adobe Photoshop has no lag in performance.

I have tried many of the suggestions that I could find on this forum and online, including:

    optimized my catalog several times

increase the cache size of Lightroom (currently to 25GB)

off by writing to XMP (no change)

has more 1 TB of hard drive space

updated my drivers of graphics processor (after update no observed change)

activation and deactivation of the GPU (no difference anyway)

run the check disk and Defrag (no change)

disable my antivirus and firewall (no change)

    stop Windows Search (no change)

    stop Superfetch (no change)

disable the Flash Player (no change)

I use creative cloud Lightroom, the most recent version. The images are stored locally.

  • Why can I not I get open file RAW in Lightroom?

Why can I not I get open file RAW in Lightroom?

    Thanks for the screenshot.

This doesn't seem to be the right way to get the images in Lightroom.

You must import raw images in Lightroom.

Go to the file menu > import photos and videos > as the place where the raw files, select source > choose Add if they are present on your hard drive and to import.

Check out this tutorial on how to import:
