is rMBP fan defective?

Hello everyone.  I have a question. Fan is staying at 0 rpm until the temperature is at least 65 ° C or even higher on my rMBP.

Is this normal or not?  When I start playing games or some hevy work speed fans when external is as I said before...

Even my MBA 2014 fan is always on even if temp. is down-fan works about 1200-1300 RPM... do not remember the exact number right now.

PS! I did already measures is:

1.) reset SMC

2.) test hardware Apple - no error found

I have 3 year warranty so if it is a sign of faulty hardware, I can take it for a free repair but I wan't be sure because it's a pretty long ride to Apple.

I downloaded contol fan so I can show you guys...

Thanks for any help.

The fan must be always rotating when the MBP is on.  What you are experiencing is NOT normal.  Establish service.

Ciao.

  • Is my rMBP defective 2015 or does have a glitch or bug?

Hi all! Can anyone tell me if these symptoms are acceptable? 2 days ago, I bought a new MacBook Pro retina 2015 (entry level) model 15 ". It's actually a replacement/upgrade of a rMBP defective 13 "which was a lemon. I'll try my best to explain this. What happens is when I'm playing video on QuickTime my control functions (play, pause, fast forward, rewind, stop, and esc. desire does not.) This happens regularly and doesn't happen that after I pinch to minimize or maximize and only after I have the same pinch action twice. I know it sounds silly, but it's true. I mean, it's controls stops working after that I have pinch to optimize two times in a row and when I pinch to reduce at least twice in a row. The only way for the controls start the new operation is to pinch the reverse of what the screen. So, if its in full screen I'm having to pinch two times on the screen to minimize and vice versa and then it will work. Can someone please explain this? Someone of you have heard of, or been there before? Seriously, I think using the return policy of 14 days of Apple and swapping out for a different MBP. Thanks in advance for any tips and advice! See you soon,.

  • Portege R100 freezes - CPU fan is defective?

I ' v was Portege R100s for a long time, maybe 7 years old, I am at my last one.

I'll be back from it after eating and the XP screen froze, no mouse movement, CntrlAltDel did nothing. Press and hold the power button it stopped.

Now I can start, but it freezes again in a very short time, a few minutes. I'm guessing that the processor fan is stopped.
Not tht sounds good to people, it's a realistic possibility to cannibalize the carcass of my previous and hang the fan of my current group?

    Thank you

Of course, it could be linked to the question of the CPU.
If the CPU wouldn't be cooled correctly then the system can stop to answer.

Are you sure that the fan has stopped working?
If yes then the cooling module must be checked and replaced by the compatible.
You may not use the cooling modules. It should be compatible.

But to be honest, I think that the RAM modules need to be checked also
In most cases, a RAM problem is more realistic as a defective cooling module

My old laptop has stopped working because one of the RAM slot is faulty
I delete a module and the laptop worked using a single module of RAM
However, I couldn't use it as I wanted and I bought the new notebook.

  • X 200 overheating when moored - defective fan?

    Padders greetings,

My trusty X 200 has recently started to overheat and shutdown when docked and under heavy CPU load. When this happens, it is incredibly hot to the touch, so presumably it turns off to prevent permanent damage, which is a good thing.

The room is heated to about 23 c and the machine is not in the direct light of the Sun. All vents are clear - it has space to breathe.

I ran some checks this morning and found that at full load, when the CPU is clipping (i.e. 212 Fahrenheits) 100 c, the fan runs at max ~ 4600 RPM. Is this normal? I thought I remembered it runs upward to 7000 + RPM a couple of years ago, but I can't find any references to what fan speed max should be. It seems strangely quiet lately... I was wondering if maybe the fan is not being aware more.

In case it's important I run Linux but don't touch any things in tp_smapi fan speed - it still works in auto mode (equipment determines the speed of the fan).

An output under load for a few minutes (may not know how to paste the code on this forum):

    Hello

I've never used a 200 X before, but given your description, I had to examine carefully opening according to the manual of equipment maintenance and cleaning of the Interior, following clean the fan/radiator and Regrease, or even replace, if necessary.

  • Some macbook fans do not work?

I noticed that when the macbook gets hot and the fans come into action, air only fate of the far right below the screen and no more than all the cracks. It is possible that some fans have stopped working?

To check, you can run Apple Hardware Test:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201257

Note that an error free AHT is inconclusive.

Some applications of speed of fan/temperature also indicates if a fan is defective.

  • 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro fan does not turn

    Hello

It feels like I'm the only person having this problem, but I've had this laptop for 6 months and the only time wherever I've lived the fan turning is when running diagnostics. Unfortunately, I did not buy Apple Care +. Any tips?

    Thank you!

The new Mac (retina, 13 inches, early 2015) inactive fans at 0 RPM, due to a better cooling and to save battery and turn on if necessary. Even at 2000 rpm you will not hear them.

  • Is it normal for my AirPort Extreme to run his fan on and off every 2 ' minutes throughout the day?

I have a 2nd ae put in place to extend our network.  The second flashing yellow from time to time, always in the works, but the fan runs constantly II never heard our other use on the fan.  Never.

If you ask about the current 'tour' in the form of version of AirPort Extreme, the fan runs constantly... (and normally very quietly)... as long as the AirPort Extreme has the power.

This is the model you have?  If so, then the airport is defective. If the product is less than one year, or you have AppleCare implemented on one of your Macs... and... He airport most convenient is less than 3 years, Apple will replace the device for you.

If your AirPort Extreme is not covered... and you are an it yourself type of person... you can open the AirPort Extreme and are looking for a replacement of the fan.  This article will give some tips on the opening of the product. Note that section provides the number of manufacturer and model of the fan, so you can use it to search for a replacement.

  • The fan speed does not match cpu temperature

    Hi all

following my last post, I have a new question. I have a 13 rMBP inches early 2015 2.7 ghz dual core i5.

by running ' Yes > / dev/null & Yes >/dev/null "(for about 4-5 minutes), I managed to get 100% load on both hearts, beginning of time editing.

at one point, fans of kick (they were before, 0 RPM, which is normal on the new mbp) and start climbing in RPM also.

then, cpu temp reached 97 - 98C and the speed of the fans stops about 3250 RPM rise. Temp remains steady at 97 - 98C as if 98C is ok and should not be cooled more far.

IMHO I'm not sure it's a hardware problem because obviously the temp reading is ok, fans begin to climb in rpm, the only issue is - why they stop at 3250 RPM when the CPU is 98C? (I know about fans of older models, kick to 100% after 90 c, but I wonder if this is the case in the new models or the fault is in my MBP)

also, it of not like the fans are completely disabled or works 100% all the time, looks like a problem of software for me.

If someone has the same model of rMBP I would appreciate running the ' Yes > / dev/null & Yes >/dev/null ' and sharing the results.

  • Reset SMC fails to fix the problem of fan

So I tried to solve a problem where my fans are running overtime on my end 2011 MBP 13 ". I did a reset of the PRAM and SMC. However, I'm not sure that the SMC reset has never really worked. In the past when perform SCM restores, I remember that my magsafe adaptor change color, this was not past. The problem with the fans running continues. I tried several times, it doesn't seem to work.

I don't know that I'm following the correct procedure, taking the left SHIFT-control-option and power keys at the same time and releasing at the same time.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

The fan or sensor is maybe defective.  Run Apple Hardware Test:

Note that an error free AHT is inconclusive.

Open the MBP and see if there is dust and debris inside.  If so, clean.

  • HP s 4330: cannot install Windows, freezes before restarting. [solved: chipset defective stepping]

    Hello!

I am banging my head on the wall with this case, can not understand, how to proceed.

My experience: I worked a few years as a computer store technician, especially on desktop computers, so at least vaguely, I know what I'm doing, and I'm very careful when handling material.

Background of the computer: I got a used HP 4330 s after the deceased family member. No fringe, pretty clean, no damage or traces of fall release. He had dead hard disk (click), broken DVD (engine brackets bent, I am told it is a child work) and was very dusty (blocked fan). I removed the optical drive, carefully removed all the dust, replaced heat is dedicated to the Sub CPU and put inside SSD, I took my other machine (erased). In the BIOS, I went from starting EFI.

I jumped into the USB with Windows 8.1 fresh install, which ran well, until he wanted to restart. Screen went blue/violet (same color as the background of the normal installation), and it stopped, no disk activity, nothing. I turned to bike it, Windows installation proceeds, but failed. This is repeated several times.

Steps I took to solve the problem:

-Legacy mode and I tried to install again, same result.

-Memtest Ran, past, memory switched to a few specimens (DDR3 and DDR3L), tried both slots, pass all, Windows will not complete the installation.

-Traded stock to i5 - 2520M i3 CPU I had to hang out, which has been removed from the machine work (during upgrade), same result.

-Done everything once again, this time without the battery and using big HP 120W 85x0w charger, same result

-Exchanged on a different disk, same result.

-Try exchanging AC7260 network card, only to discover he is blacklisted (* beep *?), removed wifi do map altogether, no change

-Traded thumbdrive to another, and I tried two different Windows 8.1 relies

-Turn off all devices in the BIOS, except USB.

-Tried to install Ubuntu, only to find out that it works perfectly, but it will not boot from EFI, had efibootmgr shows the correct entries, laptop says that it cannot find the operating system.

-Hiren Boot CD with BartPE is Windows XP starts and works very well.

-Check time CPU, at a time using reporting and pirometer software, it does not exceed 65 degrees Celscius in any moment, which is well below the critical temperature on both processors.

BIOS is F47. To my surprise, it is newer than what I can find in the download page (F07?).

Can what steps I take to close on the issue? I would leave it under Ubuntu, but I need Windows on this computer, and I'm afraid he's going to go belly up.

    Last updated.

First of all, doughjohn - problem is not in the initiation of the stop, but it will not accomplish the closure. There is almost everything disabled except BNT kernel and the video driver.

The problem has been very difficult to diagnose, until I found a friend who also had the same machine.

    And here's the final solution:

Like unbelieveble as it is, all three motherboards have manufacturing defects.

Problem is the chipset: all of them, as, as I suspected, have Cougar Point B2 chipset with SATA bug. This degrades the connection of the HARD disk. There were two clues: USB3.0 adapter SATA with Windows 8.1/10 work and fine closures. Same disk moved in the hard drive bay or optical Bay can not close correctly and works over slow (!). Second, was my friend who had same 4330 s specifications, but without problems. I disassembled the machine and to my surprise he chipset B3, with visible signs of flow around it, and fix the markings certified HP. This laptop was RMA would once. I moved my installation to his mother, and he also starts very well on SATA ports.

This is the first (and only) for laptop with Sandy Bridge-era components that suffer from a degradation of link chipset primary HARD disk SATA lines I've seen so far.

To sum up: HP, your fault this time.

I sold the laptop and I'm looking for a new machine, it will probably take HP 6470 B, if I can find all the components.

Thank you for all those that the air here and offered advice and guidance. I really appreciate your help!

  • Satellite C650 - Question about cooling fan

I recently bought the Toshiba Satellite C650 with processor i3 Intel and Windows 7 Home. When I see the bottom cover there are no holes for the cpu cooling fan intake air (there only the circle mark on the case under the cooling fan). Pls confirm me it is a manufacturing defect or not.

I also ran a cpu + the base temperature software and find core temp goes up to 72 ° C in one step and I feel very hot blowing through the radiator.

    Hey Buddy,

    > When I see the bottom cover there are no holes for the cpu cooling fan intake air
Who is normal and it s according to the laptop and the material. Different laptops have different cooling systems. This would mean that there are some laptops with no holes directly under the fan air intake. For fresh air holes are placed elsewhere to generate some air flow. If the other pieces of equipment can be cooled as well.

There are already some threads here in the forum and as you can see it's really normal:

    > I also ran a cpu + basic temperature software and found core temp goes up to 72 ° C in one step, and I feel very hot blowing through the radiator.
How did you check the temperature?
Always it is if everything works well don t care about the temperature. In this case, that the laptop could overheat, it would off himself to protect the equipment. ;)

  • Fan noisy and slow speed for the Macbook Air with 10.11.4

I hope you can help me.

I upgraded 10.11.4 on my Macbook Air a couple of days. It is a model of 2013 Mid, 1.7 Ghz Core i7, 8 GB of RAM.

I don't know exactly what my last update was - but was El Capitan any.

I tried LANDAU and SMC resets.

Previously, she has chugged along fine. The fan was quiet most of the time - only hit on when I used Lightroom.

Now, the fan kicks on regularly, most of the time actually. And it's MUCH slower. Very lag sometimes when you type in Wordpress, for example. And lightroom is much slower. Also, when I use FaceTime, video often turns itself on and off--with a message informing me that it will resume when the computer cools down. Yet the back of the computer does feel not hot at all.

I tried page of Chrome in Safari. Doesn't seem to help much.

I am currently traveling to the Peru and did not my hard drive with my last backup, Time Machine, by hand, so as I understand it, I can't go back to a previous update.

The Kernal task often seems to have a very high CPU %: 250 or.

Right now, I'm trying to download the Combo, I read that this can sometimes fix glitches.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

The kernel uses excessive CPU cycles. Here are a few possible causes for the State. Some may not apply to you.

    FileVault

Please, open the security and privacy pane in system preferences and click the FileVault tab. If there is an indication that the encryption or decryption is in progress, wait (possibly several hours) so he can finish and see if there is an improvement.

    Limitation of the

When he does readings of high temperature in the material, or a MacBook battery low voltage readings, the kernel can try to compensate by interrupting the processor to slow them down and reduce energy consumption. This condition may be due to:

☞ an accumulation of dust on the logic board

    High ambient temperature ☞

☞ a defective battery or worn in a laptop

☞ the malfunction of a cooling fan, temperature probe, a probe or some other component voltage internal

Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there can be no real overheating or undervoltage.

If the computer is portable, try with and without the power adapter connected. If pigs kernel_task processor only on current alternative, load is causing the machine to heat up. This behavior may be normal for some models, but it can also be an indication of a hardware failure.

Apple diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, although not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more in-depth material test, an appointment of 'Genius' to an Apple Store, or go to an other authorized service provider.

If all goes well with the material, then everything that you can do to improve the cooling can help.

    Software installed

The software installed by the user which includes a device driver or other kernel code can thrash of the kernel. This category includes virtualization, such as Parallels and VMware software, as well as products 'anti-virus' more commercial. Some system monitoring applications, like "iStat", may also contribute to the problem. You can test this possibility to completely disable or remove the software according to the instructions of the developer or start in safe mode. However, it should be noted that the deactivation of a modification of the system without removing or test in safe mode is not as easy as you think.

    Corrupt NVRAM or MSC data

Sometimes, the problem is cleared up by resetting NVRAM memory or MSC.

    External display

Connect an external display to some models of MacBook Pro while the lid is open can cause this problem. If necessary, use the external clamshell modescreen.

    Other devices

Disconnect devices wired everything except those needed at startup and remove all the expansion cards of third parties (if your model.) If the problem is resolved, reconnecting devices one by one by one until you identify the culprit.

  • Portege M400 - system crashes, speeds fan near the top, does not start

I bought this new tablet in 2007 with Vista Ultimate. I upgraded to 2 GB of RAM a few months ago and keep up to date on the OS and antivirus updates. During the last week, the system began to hang, usually using MS OneNote but also when you navigate on the web or other applications. The computer can be either in tablet mode or laptop mode, when this happens, and it is usually on a flat and level. The grip has become more common of yesterday and today, it does not even start. Whenever it crashes, including now the fan suddenly accelerates. Every time that requires a difficult stop - I hold the power button for 5-7 seconds. Whenever it starts after the hanging, he asks to go through safe mode. The last time he asked to open the Windows repair.

I guess I'll have to send in for service. After reading some other posts, I noticed that others have experienced similar problems and I was wondering if someone had succeeded in solving them?

    Thank you.

    _@c-serpent_
    > I upgraded to 2 GB of RAM a few months ago and keep up to date on the OS and antivirus updates
You said you did a RAM upgrade these computers portable behavior can be caused by RAM memory modules defective too.

    Love all: _
You should also check if your laptop temperature is not too high.
In many cases if the temperature is too high the Windows OS on the laptop crashes and freezes.
I think after a long period of use, the vents may be blocked and this would prevent air from traffic and internal parts would not be properly cooled.

I clean my fans and cooling grids from time to time with a jet of compressed air. In this case, you could get rid of the dust and debris that is mainly responsible for these issues
